The 6-3 opinion came from Chief Justice John Roberts.

We do not make up the laws as we go. They are picking and sticking charges to get the most punishment they can under the law. That is not fair and equal application of the law. The supreme court got it right.
Wow, as a citizen of the United States, I didn't think I could be more disappointed in our 3 branches of government. First in Trump, how he would not gracefully admit he lost. His behavior as President. Jan.6 attack on Congress and subsequent Republicans trying to excuse that behavior, now the Supreme Court trying to do the same thing. Thank you all for taking away any dillusion that things are ok in the United States.

These judges were placed on the bench to serve the people. We pay their salaries full benefits, and expenses. If they don't want to honor the contract, they need to resign or be impeached.

They did dismiss the charges because the “Law” you were citing wasn’t meant to be used in such a broad manner. It was made for “Financial Crimes”. The supreme court’s ruling is correct in their decision. The prosecutors were stretched to try to make the law all encompassing. It’s not the law that should have been made.
And there will be one, with all the MAGA in Congress today, who should have been prosecuted as co-conspirators in trump's coup attempts, 4 YEARS ago!

What type of message this decision is showing to the World?
That the rule of law applies and statutes mean what they say in plain text. It does not end prosecutions for people who participated, but it changes the implementation of some specific charges that some people were facing.
Clearly there’s a lot of commenters who have no interest or maybe the capabilities to just view this legal decision from a legal perspective without getting their feelings involved.

When these people were charged under a law that was created to address events in business, I wondered how they were charged with a law that has nothing to do with Government or Government proceedings. Businesses and the Federal Government are very different and are governed by different laws. For example, an employee who steals a company's proprietary technology is charged with theft. A Government worker who steals National Defense secrets is charged with espionage.

Also put into law that anyone who gets elected into an office, is not allowed to own a business nor any close family member(s) AND that them nor any close family member is allowed to own any stocks, as well.
What we need is to remove the ability of those holding public office from being able to profit and financially profit nor be financially bribed from them holding those positions.

The language of the law clearly includes other actions. It explicitly includes other actions and supreme Court president. 4 years has been to interpret laws based on their plain language first and then look towards legislative history and then look towards other precedent. What we are seeing from this court is a willful misapplication of traditional ways of interpreting statutes to fit their own agenda.

This is something that Justice Jackson seems to be pretty adamant about in her opinions thus far in her short term on the court. I don't see anything problematic in how they broke down the language here.

I believe that DJT incited/rallied these individuals on January 6th to storm the Capitol and further, that it is fair to say that they would have inflicted harm on certain Democratic politicians if they hadn’t been escorted to safety! The traumatic memory of watching all of this occur while DJT & family watched everything play out on television from “bunker land” and do nothing to stop the madness sickened me to my core! The mood coming from said bunker seemed to be anything but shock and disbelief! If I remember correctly, certain individuals with DJT were rather celebratory regarding what was happening! I sure hope that this ruling is NOT a hint, a foreshadowing of this SC granting IMMUNITY to one and all in this matter! MAGA did not show up for the standard “tour of the building” that day, but with evil intentions spawned by their evil leader! (just my humble opinion).

Before all that bullsh*t is considered we first have to ask what the intent of the 1/6 rioters was when they headed to D.C. Did these rules from the days of Enron, et al lurk in the minds and intentions of the rioters or ? What laws were the rioters planning on breaking? You don't go to a gathering, dressed, armed and wound up as these folks were without having some sort of recognition of why you are going there and how far you're willing to go with your actions. We all know these rioters headed to D.C. to do Donnie's bidding even if that included killing and forcibly taking over the government. Destroying some paperwork was not their primary goal. Take a look at them, how many of them looked like file clerks, bookkeepers and accountants looking to turn over a few file cabinets, smile into the cameras then drive home that evening? Quit believing the SCOTUS majority has any intentions other than to dress up a pig.

Oh it's gonna get worse, especially if trump gets back in. This country will be just like north Korea. It's what they want. Trump will dissolve the supreme court, and Congress. It will all go away, all laws and rules go through the president. NOT what our founders had in mind.
