    So I found using 5% silica was perfect and I added extra glycerin along with a polysorbate 20 line leaves the skin silky, smooth and you’ll see a little oil floating to the top not much a tiny bed but I now sell it to salons and they said it’s the best one they’ve ever used, so I personally would stick with the 5% silica maybe seven at the most. Thank you Tara again for an amazing video.

      Do you keep the formula the same? Just decrease the silica usage and increase the glycerin and polysorbate? Or do add more oil too to replace the 25% that you're not adding from the silica? I hope you don't mind replying, thanks in advance.

      @@adrianaa9775 sorry it took me so long to reply! Your glycerin should be the same, the poly 20 will depend on the % of oils used. I believe I use 7 % glycerin and 5 percent poly. You have to do testing to make sure your formulation works the way you want it to. I think you do not need over 5% silica, that is the max I would use personally at least for my formulation. Tara does a bunch of different types of formulations so I would follow what she does!

    I think you did a fab job with this. The texture when you used it looked a little more similar too.
    I sometimes think that many brands will include a lot of ‘good for marketing’ ingredients, but use them all in very small amounts. Added together they will make a good percentage of the final product, but when there are so many you’ve got to question how effective each one will be in the end product. That said, Treehut will know a lot more about formulating that me 😂
    I’ve not looked at duping TreeHut before, but I think when duping, we should be trying to make them our own anyway. Looking at it, I probably would have done similar to you.

    Try mixing those gelling powders with glycerine first. It helps them blend and absorb better. Maybe a emulsifing wax instead of shea butter. You don't have to use everything they do. Skip the Titanium. I also would probably use a castor oil as sugar scrubs can be drying. I'm a person who prefer butters so I probably wouldn't like theirs. I notice people not of my hue prefer creams and quick absorbable. Opposite of me so maybe some wouldn't like castor oil but it would help the drying effect.

    • @TaraLeee
      @TaraLeee  Před rokem +1

      the silica base won’t mold since it’s anhydrous. it will go rancid. so essentially it’s good as long as the oils are. add vitamin E to keep it fresh longer. & that’s goood to know about titanium dioxide. thanks!

  • @crystalhansen2655
    @crystalhansen2655 Před rokem

    First, thank you for being so generous and awesome. I've learned so much from your videos!!! My daughter is obsessed with this tree hut scrub and the water at her dorm room is so hard a foaming scrub doesn't lather! So she asked me to do an emulsified scrub, this one, if I could figure it out- so here I am. (It just so happens that I have also been obsessing with curiosity about glycerin heavy sugar scrub- so win/win?) In geeking out on ingredients, I read that although the ideal usage range lists up to 30%, the ideal ratio of silica in a sugar scrub (although it is a thickener it is also an oil absorber) is about five times the fragrance oils (id imagine botanicals included) Do you think that might help get adjust the ratio and give more clues for the rest of the ingredients? Im thinking somehwhere around 6% if all those oils sit at about 2 % each. (And the math makes sense if polysorbate is listed before the silica in the ingredients list- it would have to be the same or less in total compared to the poly 20, right?) I also think that aloe vera extract would help the consistency, would be an alcohol-ish type base to thin the overall gel and may just be the "plant extracts" listed after silica. (that ingredient also seems to make sense amongst the tropical, botanical, skin-loving stuff) I also think you're right about the percentages of oils in total, as I don't think they use a ton of each but the sum adds up to a large bulk of the recipe. Lastly, its a tiny amount but the recipe does have water. and the water is listed above the optiphen ingredients, so I'm thinking tree hut would need to have water set at 1% minimum. (I cant decide between .5 and 2% for the water). Guess Ill just have to conduct some experiments this weekend!
    Thanks for all you do! I sure appreciate you, your channel and your fabulous content!
