- Network Rail's chief negotiator says the company is "on the right path" to reach a deal to avert future rail strikes.
Tim Shoveller said the company may be able to repurpose September's offer to unions and resubmit a deal.
A 48-hour walkout by 40,000 RMT union members is severely disrupting rail services as many people return to work after the Christmas break.
The strike is the first of two planned this week by the RMT in England, Scotland and Wales - members of drivers' union Aslef will walk out on Thursday.

Why is he lying
The Conservatives are still in government because the opposition are inept, have a poor record in any type of government and can’t be trusted!
Would love to know what this guys pay rise was
He looks dodgy
He starts by saying that significant progress has been made and then completely contradicts himself by stating they will be offering the exact same deal that was rejected previously. Unions will not put an already rejected offer to another referendum. For all of the travelling public I sympathise, but this is why the strikes continue. Network Rail and the government do not want to settle this dispute.
My thoughts exact😆well said👍
9 % over 2 years when inflation this year alone is around 12%. railway workers will have to accept a paycut to keep their jobs lol
He is doing really well as a negotiator gone from days of talks to months

I'm 100% behind the strikes. Enough is enough. Help the needy not the very greedy. These journalists, media and t.v.presenters are seriously overpaid, where is their moral compass, this government in 12 yrs have not grown the economy, that's how wages have not improved, this government is a disgrace. Ordinary working people deserve better. Don't take the British public for fools.
Lets hope the strikers get a fair deal in all respects minding safety for travellers
That’s a smokescreen for wanting more money
Are railway are dreadful and are over to top on prices . The most expensive fairs in Europe
Overpriced because the fat cats and shareholders are taking the cash by the hundreds of millions instead of putting the cash in for improvements and cheaper fares. All public services need to be nationalised to benefit everyone.
Shove the rise on to the fares, not the taxpayer. They should not be running empty trains. If they don't get used cut them off.
Coach price is literally a third
That's what privatisation does . Greedy shareholders and government officials getting their piece of the pie 💰
this bloke looks like if I tried to draw someone from memory
Televise the negotiations. Let's see whose the liar.
is sky news brokering this deal?
sounds amazing…..
wonder what we’re not being told?
I'll believe that headline if it comes from the union side.
Namaskar 🙏🙏🙏🙏
All I wish for is that British return to rule India again.
After 75 years of so-called "independence", India is Rank 107 on Starving Index - worse than Nigeria and North Korea
Clearly, we are unfit to rule ourselves. Luckily PM Sunak's grandparents were able to escape India just in time 🙏🙏🙏🙏
The fastest way to get train drivers back to work is to tie tory mps to the railway lines .
We hope the government and the unions reach to an acceptable resolution for the all parties involved and get the economy running smoothly to beat the inflation.
This man sounds like a joke. Resubmit an offer that was already rejected by 65% of the members. What in the clownery is going on?
Talks bollocks….New strikes announced for 1&3 February
I’ll believe it when I hear it from Mick.
Yeah this guy is a lier as Mick lynch said it.
So when he says 36% voted for it is he also saying 64% were against it because, excuse my Math but that a significant majority against.
9% over 2 years is ludicrous
RE SEND THE SHITY OFFER BECAUSE 36 per cent voted yes 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Just watching Fools and Horses Jolly Boys outing and Dell speaks to Rodney about the Rail Strike, 33 years later and things ain't changed.
2/3 of RMT voted against the deal despite company pressure!!
Passengers in the UK are already subjected to one of the most expensive & unreliable rail services in Europe & ultimately this will further increase fares.
But Tim, 64% voted against your deal, is it not therefore rather brainless to resubmit the same offer.
9% is more than double the 4% the NHS workers have been expected to take with no negotiation. Surely if the government are willing to do this for the railways they should also be willing to negotiate with the NHS unions?
The 9% that is spoken about is over 2 years, 2022 & 2023. Rail workers have not had a pay rise since 2019.
Give them all the money they want. I can’t afford to travel by train as it is.
nearly there. but leaves on the line.
A deal is not going too make my train come on time !can I ask.will a deal give me a seat on the London train ?instead of being forced to stand up because there's no seats left?
Yeah , yeah and I’m the Queen of Sheba

Please hurry I need train on Thursday PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSE
id much rather they get the pay they deserve than u catch a train.
@@markyelwell995 other people have jobs to get to. Strikes are an extremely selfish way to show discontent in the workplace
@@bq1595 In Japan, rail workers strike by opening gates to all passengers and not charging fares. Also, 4 years is nothing compared to lots of other jobs. Most civil service workers haven’t had a pay rise in almost 12 years
@@sherpafan033 It's illegal in this country for striking workers to run a service for free. Closing down to go on strike is the only option they have
The Conservatives are still in government because the opposition are inept, have a poor record in any type of government and can’t be trusted!
Absolute greed, the railway are paid very well, very well, its just greed
Im sick n tired of all the rail strikes
They don't even run on time when they are working They may get more money but we are the ones who will pay the new fairs
Then get the tories out and reform our railways. It’s corrupt
@@ross8474 if it were nationalised the profit would be put back in for improvements to services , stock, maintenance and reduced fares, as it stands hundreds of millions are paid to the fat cats and shareholders. All public services a necessity to everyone need nationalisation.
Thatcher privatization of British Rail was due to EU demands.. just fyi
UK needs to enter modern times. Their railway system, staff and employment terms are stuck in the 80s and earlier. Emulate what Germany, Singapore, Japan and South Korea do. Invest any money in infrastructure and technology, not increasing salaries.
Long term this will mean cheaper tickets, faster journeys, greater efficiency and higher salaries for those employed
Service is awful Greedy selfish union
No thanks to Comrade Starmer!
Since RMT aren't members of the Labour party, they don't contribute to Labour's finances and Starmer isn't a member of the govt, please explain how Starmer has affected the situation?

Stop blaming a party that is not in power
@@darrennandrewfitness2836 He doesn't need to be in power to support the strikes, at least verbally. Instead he threatened MP's who did want to support it and kicked at least one out of the party.

RE SEND A DEAL THAT WE VOTED NO FOR 🤡🤡🤡🤡 😂😂😂 but aye the 36 per cent voted yes can do it again 😂
So they decided - we are not happy with our wages and/or working conditions, so rather then look for another job, we will make thousands of people suffer by not been able to make to and from work, relatives and friends.
Yes, because the point of unions is to challenge the economic and social power of employers, so we don't all have to put up with the lowest common denominator of working conditions. Those employers themselves are not above disrupting services, but are not subject to anywhere near as much media scrutiny.
wen every1 is unhappy u dont think its the business at fault? why not pay slave cash n they can live in slums along the tracks, im sure u'l love tent villages popping up wen ur way of dealing w things screws every1
