- John Paul Morris, Chuck Belmore and Jon Justice face a night on the water in Venice, LA, in search of the prehistoric monster that's part alligator, part fish - the alligator gar. After a record alligator gar that was nearly 8-feet long and 200 pounds, bowfishing became a can't-miss pursuit for JP. The anticipation and underwater life under the lights is only part of the appeal. What makes this his element is the camaraderie that comes with a night on the boat.

Amazing guys! I think that is one I'll be adding to my bucket list. Looks like a couple of you guys are shooting those Oneida Bows instinctively. Did it take long to learn that? It's something I always wanted to try.

Disgusting, these fish take ages to spawn and live longer than we do. They used to range all the way up to Canada and down into Mexico. Now there's something like 600 Alligator Gar left in the entire state of Arkansas.
"According to AGFC fisheries biologists, only Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi allow commercial fishing for the species. Remaining populations in Arkansas are spread thinly across much of the state or have been eliminated. Two of the known remaining populations of alligator gar in Arkansas may total only 300 individual fish each."
