Mugabe blamed ZAPU in his last days in an interview with SABC.He said ZAPU was secretely bringing in weapons from Russia. He said Julius Nyerere tipped him off and advised him to call KK (Kenneth Kaunda).Mugabe refused to apologise until he died.ZAPU played a big role in triggering Gukurahundi.Remember the more than 5000 strong ZIPRA forces at Gwai River who were refusing to disarm?Although ZAPU leaders claimed they had no control over them we know this to be a lie because Nkomo himself went on to advise Mugabe to give ZAPU a deal.Mugabe refused to give in because he knew once he gave in to pressure from dissidents and the ZIPRA forces it will set a wrong presedence.Kugara wavajaidza. If you watch the first documentary on Gukurahundi done by BBC in the early 80s the narrator says "you can not blame the Prime minister. He has to get control of his country..."
Those who argue that the 5th brigaders killed civillians need to be reminded that ZAPU itself downed two civillian aeroplances in 1978 and 1979 and went on to massarce survivors on the ground including gang raping an air hostess. The dissidents themselves were attacking civillians
ZAPU threw the first punch and got a taste of their own medicine

This narrative is skewed not factual a mixture of truth and lies. There were no dissidents in Matabeleland but ex Soldiers who were running from persecution from the Mugabe government, the so called dissidents were Mugabe 's people who he planted to justify the innocent civilians, how many dissidents did they catch or killed? Zipra Soldiers were well trained the fifth brigade wouldn't stand a chance against them. There was super Zapu dissidents who were planted by Mugabe and the Southafrican government this was all a staged to prevent UMKHONTO WeSizwe from operating in Matabeleland. Mugabe worked with the apartheid government of Southafrica he was never comfortable running the country because he was a puppet of the West imposed on Zimbabweans to serve the whites interests. Let the Ndebele tell the true history no this one that has been wavered down. Listen to the true narrative of the Gugurahundi victims on CZcams by Zenzele Ndebele everything is covered by those ext Zipra forces and the victims that survived no propaganda please sikhathele ngamanga aseMpumalanga.

Some ZANLA cadres fell victims of the ZIPRA cadres and vice versa. The system was simply supposed to give a platform for closure at a very early stage through a commission of enquiry which would deal with direct evidence from witnesses, victims and the alleged perpetrators. Those who were supposed to be convicted and penalised accordingly should not die before facing their sentences. Victims also need to be compensated during their life time. Now how do you make Gushungo and/or uMdlalawethu accountable in their graves? Most victims and perpetrators are dying through passage of time.

Zanu pf used tribalism as a Trojan horse to achieve their selfish objectives. Mugabe shaped the social order of what Zimbabwe is today , he is the worst thing that ever happened to Zimbabwe. I witnessed our deputy headmaster being shot by 5th the Brigade at Mkwidzi sec school Gwanda north in 1985 I was in form 3 , so much horror to tell. Thanks Taffy for such a detailed history! Air Marshal Shiri was a cruel soldier fully charged with hatred and tribalism . He was nick named black Jesus because he could kill any Ndebele as he wished or operate pregnant women and kill them later. He personally conducted a massacre on unarmed ZPRA cadres in Mgawugawu during ZIPA . When he became the Minister of Agriculture , he tried to transfer ZAPU properties without following a legal course.

Keep up the good work in your series Taffy.
For sure the struggle war was absolutely necessary to get started since Mr Smith did not want to sit down and have dialogue with ZANU and ZAPU. In Ndabaningi Sithole's word, "We (ZANU) have decided to use the language Mr. Smith understands." The 'language' referred to fighting with guns because that is what the Smith army was using. Hence sending ZANU cadres for training in Egypty China initially. For sure, like you say, none of the three ZANLA, Rhodesia Front and ZIPRA won the war outrightly. All three gradually became fatigued by the constant killing of each other. All three sides admitted by saying taneta nekuurayana.
