As a Sixers fan since before the Iverson era i think the process worked. After the Iverson era we languished in the bottom half of the east playoff teams and barely scraping by .500 and then we get middling picks. We were stagnant and now the last 5yrs we've been contenders!

The Pacers couldn’t do that without Paul George. The Sixers post AI had players like Thad Young, Iggy, Lou Williams, young Jrue Holiday, Andre Miller, old Elton Brand. Good players, not championship needle movers. The process was done to increase their chance of getting a big time needle mover, in the tier at or above Paul George or Kawhi Leonard for example. They ultimately netted Joel Embiid and gave themselves a puncher’s chance each year. It’s not typical to find those type of guys in picks 14-20 of the draft and Philly could not attract big free agents post AI

Compare Simmons to Siakam. One org tried to improve by purposefully losing and coddling their best players, while in that same time the other built a culture of accountability and trying to improve. Both cost their teams a playoff series (Hawks and Celtics). One guy quit, and the other held himself accountable.
The process encourages a mindset of only thinking you can be highly successful if you have what seems like the easiest and best options GIVEN to you. While Simmons should've been learning about what he can control and improve upon like Siakam, or even his now MVP caliber former teammate, Embiid.

however... "the best player in the draft" may not always be the best player fit wise
Even so... every draft has that one underrated sleeper player or a once in a lifetime unicorn that falls in a draft that misses other teams' radar (i.e Jimmy Butler, Bam Adebayo, Giannis, Kawhi (to some degree))

Yeah, "The Process" failed. The goal of the process was to win a championship, and they haven't done that yet, until they accomplish that goal, the process is a failure. This team tanked for 5 straight years, from 2013 to 2017, in those 5 years they had 5 lottery picks, who were:
    2013 #11: Michael Carter Williams
    2014 #3: Joel Embiid
    2015 #3: Jahlil Okafor
    2016 #1: Ben Simmons
    2017 #1: Markelle Fultz
only 2 of those players became All-Stars. The Sixers since 2018 have been a 2nd round exit, there are teams who didn't tank for 5 years and accomplished more. JJ mentions the Indiana Pacers, but that team ended up going to 2 Conference Finals and took the Miami Heat to 7 games. There are teams the last 5 years that have accomplished more than the Sixers (winning the championship or making it past the 2nd round) without needing to tank for 5 years. Not saying it's over, if the Sixers win a championship in the next few years, the process will be successful, but at this moment, it's a failure.

It is also committing to a player or two and letting them know that they will build around them. Aka Joel.
Look at the knicks and kings… they’ve essentially committed to tanking and drafting yet have gotten absolutely no where. They haven’t committed to building around anyone (except Demarcus cousins but we all know how that turned out).

Okay, so since 2014 when the Sixers started " The Process," the Warriors have six Finals and four titles while getting Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole, James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody in the draft and Wiggins in a trade. Have the Sixers drafted better players in those eight years?
If an organization is poor at drafting and developing, they will not become contenders. Even if they keep having lottery picks. Yeah, it is always hard to know for sure how a player will turn out, but I would not trade the guys the Sixers still have or got in trade for their drafted guys for the guys the Warriors have in the same period.

Lots of people have their own ideas of what the process was. It was Hinkie's plan, so the way that he defines it is what it was. Being a contender for multiple years and maximizing your chances to win a title was the goal. And that's what was done. It was a success

It failed because of bad picks and bad trades. Okafor was never meant to pan out and never made sense to waste a number 3 pick on him. Fultz was supposed to be a hit, but he ended being a bust. And then later on the Bridges fiasco is looking even worse. On top of that, trading for Tobias never made sense. But then choosing Tobias over Jimmy truly ended up being the final nail.
Ben honestly was a great pick and was the only pick they could make with the number 1 overall. His main issue isn’t even that he never wanted to develop a shot, it’s his ego of being a point guard. If he would have settled into a Draymond Green role and allowing Jimmy to run point, Sixers would have won a chip that year.

Even when Ainge was building towards the 08 title team they always had the star, Paul Pierce, and they never tried to lose games. Even this finals team never had bums and tried to lose like they did in Philly. They signed Hayward, traded for Kyrie, had little Isiah Thomas lighting it up. They stayed in the playoffs. That's the flaw of the draft system IMO. When you watch your team stuck as the 15th best out of 30 teams for a decade plus, you start to like it more. Take it from me, a Sixers fan. If the league wants to stop it, then they need to find a different system for how drafting works. If that's going to be the system, then I just view it as a strategy for building long term success: you stink for a few years in hopes that you create a perennial contender for the following decade plus. I still don't regret the Process despite it not panning out. The last five years of Sixers basketball have been the most interesting to watch since they were in the Finals in 2001.

No. The Process started because Philly was stuck in mediocrity and couldn’t get out of the second round. After winning 47 games in three seasons from 2013-16, the Sixers still can’t get out of the second round to this day. They also missed on most of their draft picks, only one they really nailed was Embiid. Then they prioritized Brett Brown and Tobias Harris over Jimmy Butler.
Also, do you really think the 2019 Sixers would have a) beaten the Raptors in OT, b) beaten the Bucks, AND c) beaten the Warriors? I don’t blame Hinkie for trying it, but the Sixers really haven’t even come close to the ultimate goal of the Process: winning a championship.

TBF, the Process was cut short when the league forced out Hinkie from the GM spot, since he was the one who started it. Yes, Okafor and Nerlens were Hinkie's picks and they did not pan out, but everything from Fultz, to the Jimmy Butler/Harris situation, to the Horford contract, to the mismanagement of Ben Simmons, etc. was the work of the people who took over after Hinkie's resignation.

You'd rather when 10-15 games every year and gather all these picks for what? How can the process be viewed as successful when the only thing it has produced is Embiid? I'd rather reach the postseason with a chance to win some games and potentially win it all than draft Markelle Fultz, Jahlil Okafor, Nerlens Noel, Michael Carter-Williams, Dario Saric. New #1 late game clutch option (Butler vs Kawhi) and new overpaid, 20M+ 4th option starter (Harris vs Gasol). History doesn't care, but it easily could've been the Sixers with the ring in 2019.
With the 7 games, the difference was as close it's ever going to get. Down to Butler tying the game off a pass from Tobias and Kawhi winning the game from a Gasol pass. It was literally the difference between the bounce of a ball. 4 bounces instead of 3 or 5.
