On "My Car Story" we're at the Woodward Dream Cruise in Birmingham MI on 8-18-23.
We're looking at a 1976 Ford Pinto Runabout in Ford 6E Bright Yellow Paint. The car comes with the factory 2.8 Liter V6 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is Chris Auger. Chris’s had this car in 2007. Chris shares he purchased this car to turn it into a Drag Car however when he looked up the VIN number he noticed how special the car was and decided to restore it back to original. This car looks showroom new.
ENJOY!
Hi, If you like this video, please click on SUPER THANKS ❤ with the $ in the middle which is the SUPER THANKS button under the video. Thank you! Lou
This is much niccer looking than any economy car nowadays. Hats off to the owner
High praise.
You dont see mint Pintos everyday, especially with a V6. Interesting car, thanks Lou!
"You dont see mint Pintos everyday" You're right. You're welcome John!
I must be sick - I love Pintos. I would love a 71 or 72 with the 4 cylinder and manual transmission. I have been in ones with automatics and those were glacial. Nice and special car and these just aren't around anymore. Nice catch, Lou!
Happy to read "I love Pintos" :-) Glad to share this "Nice catch" with you ultraviolet tp!
Usually people might think a Pinto is not of the caliber car to have on this channel but they are so rare in this condition the car becomes worthy. I’ve seen nice ones that someone’s sandwich in a small block V-8 and the cars are rippers but I’ve never seen an all original like this! Thx Lou!
Bradydog....you get this Channel. You're 100% right. To find a car like this today in this condition makes this "A RARE TREAT!" :-) Glad you're along for the ride, Lou
Never thought I'd see a Pinto on your show Lou, thanks for sharing. 👍
Hi Uri, Never thought I'd see one in this condition, and with a Factory V6 too. You're welcome, Lou
Thanks for featuring this rare car! I had a '73 Pinto and a '79 Bobcat.I dreamed I was driving the Bobcat 2 nights ago.Go figure.
Hi Keith, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, you're welcome, and sweet dreams, Lou
My first car ever , 1977 with the V6 , still missed my first love ❤

Me too. With the rallye edition ( White with red stripes and factory sunroof and stock mags.). great, fun car.
Very nicely restored. I never knew that any of these cars were available with a V6 engine, I always thought they only came in a four cylinder. I learned something new today.
Hi Czech Mate, I did not know the Pinto came with a Factory V6 either. I'm learning all the time, and I find that to be so much fun, Lou
You learn something old every day.
@@loucostabileI’m with you. I didn’t know any of this.
That's nice Pinto, and clearly a rare one, too! It's just fantastic that Mr. Auger had a plan for this car, but he scrapped it once he found out how truly unique this one was. What a great car and a respectful custodian of it! Thanks, Lou!
Happy to read you enjoy the looks and appreciate the rarity of seeing this car today. My pleasure sharing, and you're welcome TheGunfighter45acp!
That has to be the nicest Pinto I've ever seen. It's awesome that it was restored and not cut up. Thanks for sharing it with us, Lou. 👍
"That has to be the nicest Pinto I've ever seen." High praise. You're welcome Justin.
Remember them well, that is a special one. A pinto!
So rare to see one like this today.
Wow Lou, you have never done a Pinto before in your channel. What a magnificent car.
Hi United City_mc, Happy to read "What a magnificent car." :-) The challenge is finding one in condition like this. Lou
The Cologne V6! Pinto's were so maligned, in some ways deserved, but in many ways not deserved at all. This platform helped kept the lights on at Ford with the Pinto and Mustang II! Great video Lou. Thanks for all the effort you put in as always.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Todd. You're welcome.
LOU. i had a 1971 ford pinto with this exact same color, basically school bus yellow. i always told people if i needed touch up paint for it i would just go to the county where i live and ask for some of the yellow paint that they used to paint the double yellow lines on the streets. matched perfectly. LOL.
Hi sly 23, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hi, Lou! Congratulations on finally finding a Pinto to put the spotlight on. Persistence pays off! It's been said that this was a car nobody loved but a lot of people bought. It's great that Chris kept this one in its original state, and when we come to a car show, I think that's how a lot of us want to see them, just the way we remember them. If you and Chris want to come to my wagon club's annual show, we have had Pinto wagons there on at least a few occasions, and incidentally, the 1974 Pinto is the best-selling individual station wagon model of all time, 237,394 built.
I drove my wagon on Woodward Avenue not long after I first acquired it, in a caravan of Pontiac-Oakland Club members traveling out to Grand Rapids for a convention, but I've never attended the cruise. Anyway, thanks to both of you for giving us a look at this show horse!
Hi iswc27, You're right, a rare sight to see a stock Pinto today, so happy to share this one with you. I had no idea the 1974 Pinto Wagon sold so many. Where did they all go? Happy to share this "Show Horse" with you, Lou
I remember reading a review from that era of the Pinto's near-twin, the Mercury Bobcat, equipped with a V-6 and 4-speed stick. The mainstream car magazines, then and now, always had very witty writers and editors and the reviewer stated he had to "row the stick like a crazed kayak pilot." LOL!
"row the stick like a crazed kayak pilot." NICE! Thank you for viewing and sharing.
Beautiful Pinto. in the 70's they were everywhere. You couldn't drive down the street wihtout seeing one. This is a great example of the way it used to be... This video was so much fun!
Hi Brian, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this Pinto :-) You're right, in the 1970;s lots of them around, and now they can't be found. "This video was so much fun!" Mission accomplished, Lou
Sporty Pinto, looks like a fun to drive car. Thanks for sharing Lou.
Happy to share this "Sporty Pinto" with you :-) You're welcome Bruce H.
This car excites the heck out of me! I was first in line at the DMV, on my sixteenth birthday in 1979, driving my 1977 Pinto Cruising Wagon. I loved that car and still regret selling it!
Hi Jeff, I knew you'd like this one with your Pinto Wagon picture :-) Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Back in the day, I owned a 1977 Mercury Bobcat. V-6 That division had their own dressed version but mechically the same thing. I loved it
Drove my then small family all around
After approximately 2 years relatively trouble free, sold it for a Mitsubishi Diamante
Lovely well restored version
Enjoyed going back in time
Hi Joe, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) My pleasure bringing this "time traveler" to share with you. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
The words "that's a cool Pinto" have never come out of my mouth...until now. If I saw this at a car show I'd be all over it. You just don't see malaise-era survivors like this. I often said that if you put a new Lamborgini next to a mint condition Yugo at a car show, the Yugo would get way more attention (except for 12 year old kids). Fun video Lou!
Hi Tom (and JudyAnn), "The words "that's a cool Pinto" have never come out of my mouth...until now" NICE! My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou
I had a 78 Pinto and loved it. Never an issue. My older sister bought one the year the Pinto came out, and she never had issues. I miss that car.

That is one sweet little Pinto I'd love to take it on a road trip probably gets great gas mileage!
Happy to share this "sweet little Pinto" with you :-)
Great looking car Mr. Auger has. I never knew a v6 was ever in the Pinto. I guess it was the v6 from the Mustang ll back then. It is a very attractive looking small car too with the 5 mph impact chrome bumpers front and back. Rather roomy inside too.
Hi Tommy, I didn't know the Pinto had a V6 either. Glad to read you find this car "very attractive", Lou
Never saw a Pinto this nice! Nice options and nice restoration too. Thanks Lou!
You're right, rare to see a stock Pinto today, let alone one this nice. You're welcome Robert!
I didn't know that that they made a V-6 Pinto. Beautiful car. Thanks, Lou.
I didn't know they made a V6 Pinto from the Factory either. Learning all the time. Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) You're welcome Orbs Corbs.
The V-6 would also show up in the Pinto's corporate twin, the Mercury
Bobcat, too.
That's a new one on me. I have never seen a Pinto with a V6. I noticed it stickered for five grand. One could have bought a nice LTD for that kind of money. No doubt... This Pinto is an amazing car!!
Hi JWelchon, New one on me too. You're right, an expensive Pinto, and an amazing car. Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
🙋♂️THANKS LOU,CHRIS FOR SHARING THIS 🤗😎 PINTO,AN AMAZING 🤩 SURVIVOR AND A ONE OF A KIND👍🤗💚💚💚

I had a V-6 Pinto back in the day. Mine was an ugly green or brown, if memory serves me right. Mine was an A/C car as well. One thing I have to mention, if it was raining, let alone snowing, stay home, it was a handful.

I can smell the interior of this car. Don’t ask me how, but 70’s Fords have a unique smell
Thanks for sharing what you smell :-)
....now if I can only figure out how to get it so everybody who watches my videos can smell it......
Hi Lou! I knew sooner or later you would feature a Ford Pinto. After all, you covered many small '70s cars - among them a Chevy Vega, a 1978 Olds Starfire Firenza, and now this Pinto. I see this has the 2.8 liter Cologne (Germany) V-6; that engine was also seen in the imported Capri that Lincoln-Mercury dealers sold around the same time, as well as the Bobcat (Mercury's sister car to the Pinto), the Mustang II, and, very briefly, the 1979 Mustang/Capri. The V-6 was gone after 1979 from the Pinto/Bobcat; only the 2.3 liter four was available in the final year of the Pinto/Bobcat. The V-6 wasn't as powerful as it seemed - it put out only about 93 horsepower.
That Pinto is a beautiful looking car; I can imagine the original owner's joy when he/she bought it. Yes, it was a much-maligned car in the late Seventies once the gas-tank recall surfaced (I won't go into that too much), but it's well-loved by enthusiasts now, especially those who remember them as their first car, whether new or used! It's a car to be remembered, just like the Model T and Model A Fords of earlier times.
Thanks again Lou for another wonderful video! I'd like to see another video on a small car. How about a 1980s Dodge Omni GLH or a GLH-S? Great idea!
Hi Know Bodies Full, The challenge was finding a Pinto that looked like it came from the Factory....however it has arrived, and a V6 too which is a bonus! Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome. Stay tuned that GLH might show up too one day :-) Lou

Great looking pinto ! I remember when these cars were brand new! 🖒🖒🖒
Hi Dean, Happy to read this car brings back memories of when these cars were new :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
It's a real kick to see a Pinto featured. I never even knew they came with a V8, let alone a small V8, I would have assumed a 302, but see 2000 cc on air cleaner! Wow, history lesson included with eye candy.
Not a V-8, a V-6. Lou did mistakenly say V-8 on two occasions very close together, but there were many previous references he and the owner made to it being a V-6 car.
Hi Jon, I never knew they came with the V6 either. I'm learning all the time. Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
Good looking car Lou remember these cars well had a friend that bought 2 of these new to ride to work they lasted a long time and if kept serviced were very reliable.

How cool never knew they V6ed a pinto, Great job Lou,
I didn't know they have a V6 Pinto either COMMANDER of the NORTH
Lou, I owned a 1970 Pinto sedan. The hatch back didn't show up until 1971. The car came with the upgraded engine. The 2.0 ltr. 4cyl and a 4 spd. I ran the heck out of the car. I shifted when it wouldn't go any faster. haha

I bought my first 71 Pinto wagon for 50 bucks when I was a kid. I loved the wagon and that car sure kept rocking:)). I sold it for 100 bucks to a friend. I didn’t tell no him about the Rendezvous in the back:)).

I have had 9 Pinto's and 1 Mercury Bobcat (Bought brand new). 3 of the pinto's were wagons with V6 and the Bobcat was a V6. Great cars. Shipped a 1976 Pinto Wagon V6 to Germany in 1984 (Army Vet). Went to the scrapyard and got the high performance parts from a German V6 Capri. I raced many 3 series BMW's on the Autobahn and was glad to take there money. My Pinto Wagon topped out at 200 KPH. That is 124 MPH!! Proven by 3 Cameera tickets just outside of Augsburg, Germany. My now ex-wife was driving!!!!!!! Shipped it back to America 1988. Drove it for several years. It would haul ass!
Hi John, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your 10 cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou

Best Pinto color Lou is that yellow, my friends mother had one back in the 70's & we borrowed it a lot, a yellow 72 with the non impact smaller bumpers { a nicer look IMO} but that 76 is cool 😎

Great looking Pinto 👍👍
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this Pinto :-)
@@loucostabile 🤜🤛
Those V6s were pretty rare for a reason the HP gain was minimal (for the price and not really great MPG) I recall the HP gain was only like 5 hp?.Only autos did not help.
Working on them was a PITA. Changing a starter alone was a major chore. We had a customer that had one at the garage I worked at back then. After a couple of repair bills he traded it off for a Granada straight 6.
I owned 3 Pintos in my youth ( none were a V6 ) they were good reliable cheap cars that was easy to work on. Me and my wifes first family car was a used Bobcat ( Mercury Pinto version ) Wagon. It had plenty of room for the the infant and plenty of cargo space for groceries, pic nics and fishing gear. Those Lima 4 cylinders were tough as nails. Two of mine were manuals one was auto. I got rid of the auto one pretty quick as auto 4 cylinders back then were real dogs.

This Runabout Pinto is named after the old Model T Runabouts. If I remember correctly the first Model T Runabout debuted around 1909 or 1910 and continued into the late 1920s.
Hi Nicky, Thanks for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Lou
Looking at the Window Sticker the price of the AM Radio was $71. The profit margin must have been very high on that. On the other hand if go down to the last option on the list you'll see Four FORGED Aluminum Wheels at $145. (they appear to be chrome plated) That works out to $36.25 per wheel. Keep in mind it says FORGED, Not CAST Aluminum Wheels. Porsche had FORGED Wheels. Most of the Alloy Wheels today are Cast. That was one hell of deal back then! Makes up for the ridiculous price of the AM Radio. The BR70 X 13 RWL Tires In todays size would be P185/70R13 and the RWL stands for Raised White Letter. The price of the tires each was $36.75 Great Video Lou!

This is very interesting and nice car with V6 engine! This is new to me because I only heard and seen most have four (4) cylinders engine!
Hi ACatal2, I didn't realize they came with a V6 either. Lou
5:58--LOL and I love it! Beautiful Pinto! It always seemed to me that Ford took a step down in build quality when they ditched the Pinto for the first gen Ford Escort. That beauty would draw alot of attention at any car meet or show. We all remember these running around everywhere back in the day. I had that 2.8 Cologne V6 in my 84 Bronco II. Carburated, too. Had solid lifters, which went away when they went to fuel injection with the 2.9 (descendant of the 4.0 FordV6)
Hi MIchael, Happy to read "I love it! Beautiful Pinto!" :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
Great video, Lou! Neat little Pinto!😁👍🛠️🔧
Happy to read you enjoy this one Billy :-)
After you have removed the guards from the catalytic converter thoroughly clean so it has air flows straight through. You then replace it back onto the exhaust system. That way you won’t be accused of tampering with the category converter. Everything will up Factory or it will look like in a replacement was put on it. It would be nice to have a Ford Pinto hatchback with a V6 engine good power and dual exhaust running out the rear.
Thank you for sharing Brian.
The pinto,is beautiful......
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Chris Auger is at the Motor Muster at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. It's part of The Henry Ford complex.
Thank you for sharing.
Nice❤I believe it's this model that was used as the basis for the maligned MustangII
Happy to read this one is "Nice" :-) You might be right. Thanks for viewing and sharing.
The Pinto and Mustang II were completely different cars as far as the sheet metal but they did share a fair amount of parts, particularly the 4 and 6 cylinder engines. They had their issues (the terrible Holley-Weber 5200 carburetor which was inflicted on so many cars back then comes to mind LOL) but they weren't as bad as people made them out to be -- really about the same as any of the malaise era Fords, they were just a product of their time and in their time they were relatively popular, Ford sold a ton of them! I really miss my grandfather's '72 Pinto, it had the 2 liter 4, automatic and factory AC and I'd LOVE to have this one though I'd give just about anything for another drive in my grandfather's, and having the earlier 2 liter SOHC inline 4 it was a lot easier to work on with a LOT more room under the hood than this one! :D
Hey Lou.I like the design.I had a friend with a pinto and one with a Maverick. They were fairly reliable as I recall, but best of all, my former mother in law had one or was that a Maverick, I wonder why I can't remember, Oh......yeah, well there you go.
Hey Robert, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Friends and your Former Mother In Law's cars :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Nice pinto but I had the perfect one, a '72 that I bought in '75. It was dark green with a sunroof, AC, 4 cylinder and 4-speed. Nice little car.
Hi Rich, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Sweet !!!
:-)
I'll bet one of those with the V6, four speed, and zero options would probably scoot pretty decent.
Ford was proud of those polished slotted mags in the '70s - they had the four lug version seen here for Mustang IIs and Pintos, a 5 X 4.5" version for the '71-'73 Mustangs, and later Torinos like Starsky's, as well as a 5 X 5.5" version for F100s and 150s, and Econoline 100s and 150s.

I had one with the 4 banger despite the problems with it it was a fun little car that V6 is about the same size as the ones today now the put out the same power as larger bore v8
Hi Larry, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Too cool for words!
My family had a Ford Pinto wagon which is safer than the Runabout, because the gas tank isn’t as close to the bumper…..
But that V6 sounds so much better than the 4.

Very nice Pinto - and definitely rare!
Thanks for sharing this with us Lou!
Hi Jeff, You're right, this was a rare treat to see one like this today, and with a V6 too (which I never knew they had). My pleasure sharing with you. I appreciate your support, Lou
Because of rising gas prices and shortages my folks bought an early 1970s Chevy Vega followed by a mid-1970s Ford Pinto. Both were as stripped down as much as possible, one did not even have a radio! Both were manual transmissions and very rough, especially for the many beginning drivers in our family! My younger brother and I had fun "snow mobiling" with one of them and ran into a telephone pole! But there was no visible damage. They were fun cars but very controversial! Yes, I think you must begin showing the 1970s automobiles as I am sure you have difficulty even finding some of the older models now. 1970 was 54 years ago in 2024!

Really clean and quite impressive. $100+full tank gas.

Happy to read "Really clean and quite impressive" :-)
A nice and rare Pinto. It's interesting that you couldn't get a 4 speed with the V6. It's my understanding you could buy a V6 Mustang II with 4 speed, but not a V6 Pinto. I'd like to have a 77 (They fixed the gas tank issue starting with the 77s) with the 2.3 Four and 4 speed. We had a new 4 speed 77 when I was in middle school.
Hi Michael, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
My Grandma had a 1975 (I think) AMC Gremlin and it had a factory 304 V8 in it. Auto trans on the floor. Front bucket seats and was that same yellow color, no carpet, bucket seats and I swear a "posi" rear end... I drove it when I was 16 back around 1980 or so and that thing would leave 2 black strips if you stomped on it... I wish I had that thing now!! It was a fun "go cart" that you could drive on the street.. Ugly as hell, but fun for sure! 🤣
Hi MitchF150, "that thing would leave 2 black strips if you stomped on it..." NICE! Good times, Lou
That's a nice-looking Pinto. It's not on fire, and it's in my favourite colour. And it has a V6? What more could you want?
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this Pinto :-)
I had a 74 yellow 4 cylinder manual with no air , which was tough as i drove it mostly in Houston

Oh I love Ford pintos hatchback only. Or a nice station wagon hatchback. One time I took three Ford pintos and made to run. You cannot mix the electrical wiring from one to the other because there’s always some sort of difference in them. The only improvement that Ford motor company made to the gas tank between the rear axle and the gas tank was a thin layer of heavy plastic. too many people would rig their pintos to explode and they made a big joke of it. As long as you keep your vehicle tuned up properly and the one thing to modify would be the catalytic converter. By removing the internal guts it would be much safer. Because the catalytic converter would turn red hot when burning up the Excess fuel that was not burned in the combustion chamber of the engine.
Hi Brian, Happy to read "Oh I love Ford pintos hatchback only" :-) Thanks for sharing your experience, Lou
Back when I was young ( somewhere around the same year) my Dad had a chance to buy a station wagon with a factory v6
Thank you for sharing your story of the wagon with the V6 your Dad had a chance at.
The pinto and the Mustang ll the right car for the time nice pinto

What a great car. My brother had a Pinto. I was at the same time driving a 1973 Vega. Have you everdid one of them Lou?
Hi Tall Dude, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your Brothers car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou P.S. Here is that Vega for you, czcams.com/video/wq4U42BNaNA/video.html
Didnt realize the made a V6, did a V8 conversion with a 289 and C4 to a 73, had a single 4bbl with a short tunnel ram, the Pinto conversion was way more difficult than the Vegas, always on the lookout for a 71-3 Vega to do it again
Hi hardtail, I didn't realize they made a Factory V6 either. Thanks for sharing you made a fun car. Speaking of Vegas.....stay tuned :-) Lou
The 4 cyl was 88 hp IIRC and 2222 lb car, the 289 I swapped was 300hp so healthy upgrade
I was waiting for the Hatchback and treats.
The Marti report confirming this is the real deal was that this time.
4:07 interesting the sticker shows engine as OHC but it's not.
That is interesting. Thanks for sharing what you notice.
The front end looks like a Maverick.
I can see why you'd say that.
@@loucostabile look at that year Pinto and a Maverick from front on. I can definitely see a similarity.
Wow... a lot of cash for a 76 Pinto ! I bought a new 1974 Z/28 in 74 for $4500
That's an interesting observation. Thank you for sharing.
Did not know they could be ordered with a V6.
Me neither.

Need Better Audio.
....when on Woodward Ave "live" during the "Dream Cruise" audio is going to be a challenge.
Nice looking Pinto but no thank you. This car was a running molitov cocktail. Back in the day the Pinto was built quickly, cheaply and the gas tank was located behind rear axel. The Pinto blew up when rear ended causing multiple deaths, injuries and lawsuits...no thank you
Hi Sue, Clearly this one is not for you :-( Hope you see many more cars on this CZcams Channel you'll enjoy :-) Lou
