    I did not have the birth of my preferences in any way I had planned/hoped for, HOWEVER because of your education I was comfortable with being flexible, I advocated for myself comfortably when needed and although my birth concluded with a dreaded C-section, I can honestly say I had a healthy birth memory. You’ll love that I was told “your baby is big.”

    Thank you. A full video on avoiding triggers would be great. I know it might not make it to CZcams before I give birth (33 weeks now), but it would be a good resource because there are so few people talking about it. The most I've seen is a brief paragraph in 2 books.

    I was surprised when I was in labor that I could not stand sitting on a birth ball during labor last month. I had to be standing and swaying up til the point that I got the epidural. Feeling your baby move during labor... man that hits hard.
    With my first, I was under the misguided impression that I wasn't going to feel baby move during labor. And so I never mentioned the lack of movement until several hours into intense contractions. We went to the hospital as soon as I mentioned it, but it was too late.
    I will always wonder if my baby could've been saved if I had known I was supposed to be feeling her move during labor. If I had said something sooner, they might've been able to do something.

    I'm triggered EVERY time I go to a gyno and they tell me to "relax". How am I supposed to relax when someone I barely know is face to face with my lady bits and wanting to stick a weird object in there?? It's literally the least relaxing environment I've ever dealt with. I leave every appointment feeling violated. It's so bad I've avoided going in years. I'm pregnant now and I feel like OB won't be so bad cause it's mostly non-invasive ultrasounds, but you'd be hard pressed to see me at a gyno any time soon. (I also have PTSD from varied sexual encounters at various ages and I appreciate you talking about this.)

    I was told to be quieter during transition because there were other patients trying to sleep. I had a precipitous labor and arrived at hospital 20 min before baby was born, and I was terrified and lost control. Nurses didn’t help me get control, instead they told me to be quieter.

      I’m sorry that happened to you. I had a horrible experience with being told to be quite with my last pregnancy by my own mother (who has had 7 kid’s herself) like she forgot how painful labor is or something! And my baby was a month early and she wasn’t helpful or supportive whatsoever even after giving birth! Baby and I had to take a taxi after our stay in the hospital to a hotel for the one day checkup, (I live 2 hours away from the hospital so I didn’t want to go all the way home with baby) and then after that I had to find my own way home with a newborn. She thinks she will going to the hospital with me for this pregnancy but she was too negative for me and made my last birthing experience very complicated to where I’d much rather just be alone. So I told her I want to go alone and now she is being very petty and childish about my decision to not have her in the room with me

    I had a great L&D team at my hospital, I only had one nurse post delivery that was on the postpartum side that wouldn't help me put on my TED hose cause to quote her "I broke a nail so it's too painful for me to do that" never mind I had 3rd degree internal tears that had to be surgically dealt with just hours before, I did it myself and my husband helped after throwing her out lol. Question: I would like to do something for the nurses, CNAs, physicians etc, just a thank you for all the hard work and help during my labor/delivery/recovery, any suggestions?

  • @madelineelaine1288
    @madelineelaine1288 Před 3 lety

    Watching this video made me cry. I’m holding my 5 week old and my epidural completely failed and I was screaming and moaning the entire time, I could feel. Everything. And my nurse literally grabbed my arm, hard, and got an inch from my face and SCREAMED “STOP IT, YOU CANNOT BE THAT LOUD. BREATHE” my midwife and nurse kept yelling at me to BE QUIET, STOP IT. BE SILENT. BREATHE AND BE SILENT YOU ARE MAKING IT WORSE. I got myself into hands and knees, they forced me back down. I asked for stirrups, they said no. Asked for a birth bar. They said no. Asked to change positions. They said no. I was told that stirrups or a birth bar would “make it worse.” So I was stuck with my legs closed until my nurse would lift my legs during the absolute peak of my contraction and she would not lift them any other time, even though my body was involuntarily pushing. Why would she say these things? How could it “make it worse?” And I literally didn’t even push my baby out, I stopped pushing because it hurt too much and she came flying out anyway, so why was I told that I wasn’t allowed to push until the nurse said so, even though the urge was so powerful? I am enraged and so confused by my experience.

      Unless you needed medical intervention, they shouldn’t have been denying every single thing you asked to try. If you were in too much pain to even push when your body was saying “PUSH,” then they should’ve dropped their agenda and worked with you on pain relief/alternative positions/laboring techniques/whatever you actually needed; because trying to force you to labor how they wanted was 1) unethical and 2) possibly putting you and baby at higher risk for needing medical intervention. This is what I’m constantly worrying about while pregnant. There were many things in my labor with my first baby that I was blown off about by the OB who delivered. She came in at the last minute (I know that’s typical) but she didn’t even know my name. She kept calling me Linda and insisting that I do things her way because “that’s how she was comfortable delivering the baby.”
      I felt violated and even now at my third pregnancy, I’m scared to death someone in the labor room is going to go “I know what’s best for her labor, I’m in charge now” and I’ll have yet another traumatic experience. I would agree that the nurse/midwife need reported. That’s a horrendous way to treat a client, let alone a LABORING MOTHER TO BE.

      Hey, I am 7 weeks postpartum and it's my 6th baby, and have been induced with 4, so I was thinking for sure I would have to be induced again. I went into labor myself at 39 weeks with my last baby!! It was so much better, that I didn't even think I was in active labor going to get checked out in the hospital, cause I wanted an epidural before it was to late. And when I got checked I was 9cm!!! Me and my husband were shocked cause I still wasn't sure if it was actually active labor, though when checking me my doctor found out baby was breech and I ended up with my first c section. And with watching all of Sarah video I was totally calm with the sudden change of plans, flex and flow, but I still was so pleased that I went into labor myself. They only thing I did differently was sit on the birth ball the last 2 weeks and swaying my hips a lot, I did not do that with my other pregnancies. I would like to know why this labor was so painless compared to my other's which were so unbelievably intense and unbearable. Wish you all the best with your pregnancy and labor!!

    Hi Sarah, I've been following you for quite a while, I find your advises and suggestions are really helpful, but I recently received a news from my doctor which leads me to the questions below: I live in Finland, and I'm currently 37+1 week pregnant, my baby girl is in frank breech position like a V shape in my uterus facing my left, ECV did not succeed, and MRI scan shows that vaginal birth is feasible, my question is: if I take your recommanded technique of 'how to avoid tearing' published on CZcams to allow my uterus to contract more= to give it more time for my vagina to stretch, will my baby suffocate if the whole body is out and only the head is left inside? What are other complications that I should taking into account? What's better or safer for the baby - a C section or vaginal birth? And, do breech babies also 'drop' in pelvis like babies in normal head down position? Thanks a lot!

    • @sabrinalinn1678
      @sabrinalinn1678 Před 3 lety +1

      I’m not a doctor/nurse/midwife but from what I’ve read, the baby wouldn’t suffocate as long as the umbilical cord is attached and isn’t being pinched. They continue to receive oxygen from the cord throughout birth, I don’t think that’s any different for breech births? I would hope if something was going wrong during delivery that your doctor would advise you though. Best of luck with your delivery!
