  • Is progressive Christianity just a group of Christians who are changing their minds on politics and social issues, or is the gospel that is taught by many progressive leaders entirely different from the historic Christian gospel?

      You're absolutely right! The true Gospel does indeed divide and what you've said reminds me of Matthew 10:34-36, where we're warned by Jesus Himself not to think that He has come to bring peace on Earth. He came not to bring peace, but a sword. He has come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law and a man's foes will be those of his own household.
      Also, in Matthew 25, verses 31 and following, He describes what will happen when He comes back and if you take some time to read and study that passage, you'll see the picture.

    • @mannbradmusic
      @mannbradmusic Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you for sharing your thoughts and to answer your question, many people hate the true Gospel, because it shows them that they're guilty before a God who is perfectly holy and pure and they don't want to change the way they live.
      Also, several times in the Gospels, Jesus Himself makes it clear that if you're truly following Him, you'll be hated by the world and in 1 Corinthians 1:18, the apostle Paul declares that the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but for us who are saved, it is the power of God.

    It's funny that someone uses the "Jewish lens" and completely ignores the Old Testament. Jesus did not come to start a new religion is true but he did not come to say all paths lead to God. Jesus is the Jewish messiah who came to redeem the Jewish people and the whole world through his blood. We are grafted into the chosen people of God as we serve the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

They are a ministry of Israeli Jews who believe Jesus is messiah and are sharing the gospel with their fellow Jews. A lot of Jews are coming to faith in Jesus as Messiah because of their ministry among others. Not all Jews rejected Christ. At the time of Rome destroying the second temple there were approximately 1 million Jewish believers.
      11 “In that case, I say, isn’t it that they have stumbled with the result that they have permanently fallen away?” Heaven forbid! Quite the contrary, it is by means of their stumbling that the deliverance has come to the Gentiles, in order to provoke them to jealousy. 12 Moreover, if their stumbling is bringing riches to the world - that is, if Isra’el’s being placed temporarily in a condition less favored than that of the Gentiles is bringing riches to the latter - how much greater riches will Isra’el in its fullness bring them! 13 However, to those of you who are Gentiles I say this: since I myself am an emissary sent to the Gentiles, I make known the importance of my work 14 in the hope that somehow I may provoke some of my own people to jealousy and save some of them! 15 For if their casting Yeshua aside means reconciliation for the world, what will their accepting him mean? It will be life from the dead!

    I love that you are teaching Christian's what is going on out there. THANK YOU ALISA! WE NEED TO BE READY and study to show thyself approved!!! 1 John 2:18-19 AMP Children, it is the last hour [the end of this age]; and just as you heard that the antichrist is coming [the one who will oppose Christ and attempt to replace Him], even now many antichrists (false teachers) have appeared, which confirms our belief that it is the last hour. They went out from us [seeming at first to be Christians], but they were not of us [because they were not truly born again and spiritually transformed]; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but [teaching false doctrine], so that it would be clearly shown that none of them are of us.

    Re McLaren, sounds like liberation theology. What do you know, his Wikipedia page says he does not believe homosexual conduct is a sin.
    When you twist the Gospel to an earthly type of "liberation", you eventually turn against the sound moral teachings of the church, which themselves are "oppressive."

    I'm having so much fun going through your channel. I'd add that you might want to explain more fully the original meaning of the word "gospel." It actually had a political function in the Roman Empire. It was not originally a Christian idea. It was very much a political term.

    "Without the shedding of blood there can be NO forgiveness of sin." This is why Abel's sacrifice was accepted and Cain's was rejected. Abel offered a lamb ( pointing to Christ.). Cain offered produce from his fields ( pointing to his own works.) And was rejected by God.

    We really have only two options.
    One, I save myself by adding my good works to Jesus Christ's one-time offering of Himself, to attempt to appease God. This is obvious in Roman Catholicism, and somewhat less obvious in most of so-called Protestantism.
    Two, I humble myself to accept Christ Jesus' free gift, knowing anything I may attempt to add is a slap to His face.
    Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us... Tit 3:5

    We were told in the Bible that we are not supposed to eat or drink blood because in the blood there is life. Substitute the word “blood” of Jesus for the “life” of Jesus. This cleared up this issue for me.

    I just realised the BibleProject fits the progressive gospel presentation view, and that I had merely been reading the true Gospel into their videos, re-interpreting their statements as Biblical.
    Thinking back, I can't think of a single moment where they ever actually talk in their videos about how Christ's death was for the Atonement of Sin, in taking on himself the Wrath of God for them.
    All I've heard from them is how the Jesus movement presents a new kingdom of healing, and change. Much like a political movement meant for today and the here-and-now.
    Oops. Thanks.

    Common sense reveals that even Progressives don't pick up their favourite author and redefine the point being made; so, why are they doing this with The Bible? Such a double standard illustrates a lack of self-awareness and delusion. In light of Scripture, that is the only explanation I have.

    It doesn't just come down to how you interpret a word or phrase. It comes down to whether someone is rooted in life, whether their spirits are spiritually alive - that fact will affect their take on everything! Hence Gunger, or whoever, is in no place to comment AT ALL compared with how God has set things to be, or by extension, anyone so arguing in accordence with how God has set them out to be. We should never, therefore, feel compelled to accommodate the thinking of the spiritually dead. Their arguments are spurious.

    The Six Line Grecko ROMAN Narrative? McClarin doesn't understand either ancient Jewish culture or ancient Roman culture. The first premise of the Gospel (that God created the world good) goes against the hellenistic philosophies of the Romans in the first century. They believed that this physical world was bad, evil, and gross, and that the spiritual world was good and clean. This is why so many people had a problem with Jesus being fully God and fully man. How could God take on flesh? For flesh is gross. This is why Marcion of Sinope said that the Jewish God was an evil god who created the world, but Jesus was from the good god to save the evil world his opponent had created. This is why the Gnostics said that Judas was freeing Jesus from his earthly body by betraying him. This is why Arians said that Jesus was elevated to godhood (not God incarnate). The Jewish mindset was that God created the world good, and it contradicted the hellenistic worldview of the Romans.
    Of Jewish culture, yes, modern Jews believe that our purpose is to create the best society we can, but that was not ancient Judaism. If anything, it is the result of Talmudic Judaism that stimmed from the Pharisees after the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 A.D. as a way to figure out how to practice Judaism without the Temple, -which was necessary for sacrifice and worship.
    Yes, Micah does say to "seek justice", yes the last of the Noahide Laws is to build court houses for justice, and yes, Isaiah does warn of Israel's neglect of the widow and orphan, but these are not social justice. The idea of ancient Judaism was not socialism, -it was that people should deal honestly with one another, not forming factions to war against each other. It was people rejecting the social pressure in unjust ways. Exodus 23 gives this really well: "Do not spread false reports. Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness. Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. When you give testimony in lawsuit, do not pervert justice by siding with the crowd" (1-2). Liberals may have a problem with verse 3, "Do not show favoritism to a poor person in a lawsuit", and conservatives might have a problem with verse 6, "Do not deny justice to your poor person in their lawsuit." You might broaden this out: "Don't show favoritism to the black man or the white man." "Don't show favoritism to the Republican or to the Democrat." Justice does matter very much to God, but God's justice is different from social justice. God's justice is genuine and unbiased.
    But the main theme of ancient Judaism was that God is holy and man is sinful. Nevertheless, God calls us into relationship with Him. He is the Covenant Making God, who calls us out of our sin and to be His people. And when we answer the call of God, humble ourselves, repent of our sin, and worship and honor Him, then He will save us and forgive us of our sins, as described by David in Psalm 51. But if we harden our hearts, indulge in our sin, and seek to honor ourselves, then He will give us over to our sins for wrath to build up upon ourselves, as described in Romans 1.

    Is there a translation you prefer over others?

    • @dctrbrass
      @dctrbrass Před 3 lety

      I'm sure you're asking Alisa. But I figured I'd throw my hat in the ring. I'm very academically-driven, so am very focused on discovering "what is being said." To that end, I prefer a more literal translation. NASB is pretty good...I also like the Interlinear. But even then (in that early stage of exegeting a passage) I'm spending a good amount of time in the original Greek/Hebrew as well. If I have time, I'll go to my personal library. But I'm short on time I'll use an easier tool like biblehub.com.
      But just one guy's view. I like literal translations b/c I feel that a translator's job is to translate....not interpret. Exegesis is a partnership of my academic effort and the Holy Spirit's teaching. It's not the translator's job. I'm sure that there's plenty of people who disagree. lol :)

    You are amazing. Great heart! I would love to hear your perspective on Rightly Dividing as taught by many pastors, such as Justin Johnson at Grace Ambassadors. Check our one of his Chart Lessons on Rightly Dividing. For me, it solved some perceived conflicts in Scripture, such as the different views of James and Paul with works. He honors the Word of God in that we approach scripture by asking the question, who is speaking, to whom are they speaking and what is the context. Note the difference between what the Disciples taught and what Paul said. Paul delivered a new gospel from Christ. Thank you.

    Here is a quote from a fourth century Church Father.
    Now we are to examine another fact and dogma, neglected by most people, but in my judgment well worth enquiring into. To Whom was that Blood offered that was shed for us, and why was It shed? I mean the precious and famous Blood of our God and Highpriest and Sacrifice. We were detained in bondage by the Evil One, sold under sin, and receiving pleasure in exchange for wickedness. Now, since a ransom belongs only to him who holds in bondage, I ask to whom was this offered, and for what cause? If to the Evil One, fie upon the outrage! If the robber receives ransom, not only from God, but a ransom which consists of God Himself, and has such an illustrious payment for his tyranny, a payment for whose sake it would have been right for him to have left us alone altogether. But if to the Father, I ask first, how? For it was not by Him that we were being oppressed; and next, On what principle did the Blood of His Only begotten Son delight the Father, Who would not receive even Isaac, when he was being offered by his father, but changed the sacrifice, putting a ram in the place of the human victim? [Genesis 22:10-13] Is it not evident that the Father accepts Him, but neither asked for Him nor demanded Him; but on account of the Incarnation, and because Humanity must be sanctified by the Humanity of God, that He might deliver us Himself, and overcome the tyrant, and draw us to Himself by the mediation of His Son, Who also arranged this to the honour of the Father, Whom it is manifest that He obeys in all things? So much we have said of Christ; the greater part of what we might say shall be reverenced with silence. But that brazen serpent was hung up as a remedy for the biting serpents [Numbers 21:9], not as a type of Him that suffered for us, but as a contrast; and it saved those that looked upon it, not because they believed it to live, but because it was killed, and killed with it the powers that were subject to it, being destroyed as it deserved. And what is the fitting epitaph for it from us? “O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” [Hosea 13:14; I Corinthians 15:55] Thou art overthrown by the Cross; thou art slain by Him who is the Giver of life; thou art without breath, dead, without motion, even though thou keepest the form of a serpent lifted up on high on a pole. (Oration XLV, by St. Gregory the Theologian, 330-391 A.D., vol. 7, p. 431, Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers, Second Series, edited by Philip Schaff, D.D., LL.D., and Henry Wace, D.D., Hendrickson Publishers, Inc., P.O.
