    The 4th thing I check is the Tidal Coefficient. A lower number means less dirt and algae suspend in the water and better visibility. That is ideal for surf perch to hunt for food.

      Been out lately? Brought in a monster off Cranberry outlet about a quarter mile south in a honey hole, and my cousin brought in 4 and his buddy limited out. Clam neck bait and my waders started leaking bad but it was a great day! Limited on clams in 45 minutes about 3 miles north of lighthouse past oysterville north. Monster clams

    Hi Bashi, I really appreciate your in depth videos. I wanted to know if you think it is necessary to stand in the surf to fish or can we cast from shore? I am worried about being swept away. Visiting Westport / Grayland this week

    • @BashiWAFishing
      @BashiWAFishing  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks man, cast from shore would be hard but possible at the very low tide. I usually stand in the surf, but don't let the wave come higher than your waist. Be sure to wear the dry suit and the PFD.

    Hey bashi! I'm at Pacific beach...right now. There are like 5 or 6 rows of shallow waves the last two days I've tried to fish. How do I deal with so many rows of waves? I can't wade out far enough to cast behind the waves!
    And as for tides? Low? High? End of either tide? I'm so so confused!
    Any help would be great! Love and rely on your info!

    • @BashiWAFishing
      @BashiWAFishing  Před 2 lety +1

      Slack tide is good, sounds like the beach is too flat, you might want to find a beach which is not that flat.

      I'll add to advice. Between cranberry outlet on the peninsula and south from there, look for pockets of low tide in front and huge waves behind. Wade out to about upper thigh height between first low tide and high, cast over the mid sized waves coming in, feed your line out as you back up till ankle deep and wait for strikes. As the tide comes in just don't go out as far. That hole will fill more with the tide and you can keep fishing it till high tide. I use 4oz weight 15lb line with razor clam necks as bait.

      Ugly stick for durability. Don't use a salmon or steelhead rod unless its medium heavy. Many people use steelhead rods designed to throw lighter applications but not quite 3-4 oz like I see happening with people. Sure you can get away with it if you really know what you're doing. I've seen the mistakes from people for decades now. When they break their rods misusing them they are ready to talk bad about the rod itself or try taking it back to the store for warranty. Just get and ugly stick they are available in 9ft lighter action.
