I've always found this language to be so mysterious and thought I would never understand its ways. It's very different from any other language, its writing rules are not something we're used to, even the pronunciation of the sounds is different, but pretty easy to grasp, actually. It takes practice. Thank you so much, it's obvious that a lot of work went into this, appreciate it. Well organized and easy to understand.
I like how people are typing 한글 instead of hangul! your lessons are helping!!!
Now I know that it's not Hangul and hahngoal
Hi I noticed that this was commented a while ago but ive just started this course and was wondering how you typed the symbols :)
@@puketaingatawhiao8086 Hi! if you still have this problem, you can type it by putting the korean language on your keyboard:
Settings -> Search “Keyboard” if on IOS and “Languages” if on android, then you can put korean
@@puketaingatawhiao8086 사랑합니다
@@puketaingatawhiao8086 Personally I have downloaded the korean letters in my keyboard settings
i like how ur voice just goes one octave deeper when pronouncing korean 😂 also thank you for this course it's very easy to follow
My actual speaking voice isn't quite so different, but when I'm trying to teach I'm stressing to pronounce things as clearly as possible for the learner. I remember it was so hard to even hear Korean as a beginner, so I want to make it as clear as I can. But that's not how I talk with friends :)
@@GoBillyKorean oh, that's interesting! this just proves that you're a really great teacher
It's a little easier to learn Korean when you've been listening to K-pop for 2 years 😅
Japanese.
I listened to it for 3 years but it’s still hard lol
& watching Run BTS 😂
Completely disagree lol, it makes little to no difference
tru😫 but ive been listening to it for three and a half know
I learned 한글 last year from your 한글 course from a few years ago and I'm going through all this cuz yes 😂
I wish I'd discovered you earlier!!😭 these are super helpful! Thank you so much!!
This guy and his dry jokes make these lessons fun. I am currently using this as a review after watching his full Hangul instructions in one video for a month (bit by bit, taking notes and practicing)
I have just realized how easy it is to learn Hangul without using romanization! I have to work on pronounciation extra hard because I have a heavy Southern drawl so to me I sound weird. I may start recording myself and listen to you saying speaking Korean and compare.
I found you today. I watched 4 lessons and now i learn some letters. Thank u so much Billy!
Hi Billy. I just found your videos yesterday, and I've watched the first 4. I love them! Thank you for creating these videos! They are so helpful! I ordered your books as well. I can't wait to get them tomorrow. From what I have seen so far, you're a great teacher!
Glad you like them! And good luck in your studies!
Wow, I've never seen a Korean course that combines so many learning elements at once. It feels far more productive this way. This is great, thank you so much!
Ya know Billy, as previously stated in other comment section I said I learned the alphabet and needed to review it more, and you told me not to skip any video as i kay learn something new. Upon taking this advice i indeed did learn something new with the ㅇ character I did not know it made the ng sound at the end of the syllable. So once again 감사하다고 for all your work and providing it for free on youtube I'll surely look into your books
It's 감사합니다
@@jasminegold6890 that was from 5months ago lmao I'm learnin 🤣😂
@@jasminegold6890 sorry im a bit confused about the circle consonant with the 'ah' vowel. did he pronounce it as just 'ah'? that's what it sounded like
i learn chinese so the 'ng' sound isn't foreign to me, like 'ang'. i just can't hear the 'ng' too well in his pronounciation
@@pillowsandblankets1432 Koreans always pronounce the circle consonant. But sometimes they pronounce it really softly. I wouldn't recommend pronouncing it softy. Just pronounce things as Koreans pronounce them
@@pillowsandblankets1432 as he said, when ㅇ is used before a vowel at the starting of a syllable, it has no sound
For eg: 안녕 (annyeong - hello (informal)) I'm sure you have heard this word a lot if you watch kdrama or kpop. Here the first ㅇ,i.e., 안 is pronounced as 'aan' where the 'aa' sound it solely from the vowel ㅏ and the n sound is from ㄴ. That means ㅇ had no sound when it was used at the starting of the syllable. But then when you see the second syllable it has ㅇ at the end of it. 녕 is pronounced as nyeong where the nyeo sound is from 녀 (ㄴ give n sound and ㅕ gives a yeo or yaw sound, you'll learn it in next lessons probably) and the ng sound at the last is from ㅇ. That means when it is used at the end it has a sound but when its used at the starting it has no sound. Other example for ng sound can be - 사랑 sarang (love)
Other example for no sound - 아이 aaii (child)
Just started learning and feeling satisfied to find accurate channel ❤❤❤
The slides are making it more easier to understand. Thank you so much.
I am so glad there's Billy Go here in youtube. Thank you Billy-hyung, you are teaching us so well. Keep up the great job!
Extremely well taught Billy! This is by far the easiest way to comprehend this language. Thank you 🙏🏼
so cool :D I had already seen your compilation of full hangul, but now Im rewatching because i really want to continue my studies! I've seen quite some videos on Korean, but you are the best at explaining different sounds!
Same :)

You’re a genius! This is pretty easy to understand. Thank you so much 💕
I can read hangul or 한글 but thanks to this video and all the others I have a better understanding.
Your teaching skills are very good! Thanks for this series.
These are great. I speak American English. My biggest struggle so far in these lessons (besides repetition and the time needed to commit to long term memory) is the subtle sound differences. For example, the “k” sounds like a “k”, the “t” sounds like a “t”, etc. I cannot tell the difference with any of these! Will Koreans people be able to understand me if I cant verbalize those subtle sounds properly?

Am I the only one here in 2024? thanks for this course it's a life saver. Ok 1 question how do you write korean using your laptop, curently using it
I'm also new here. Good luck 😄
I am getting confuse Billy in this lesson. Can't you elaborate the syllables pronounced by your mouth and we can see how you are moving your mouth and can understand. Please reply
4th Video of my Korean Language Class.
I am native Korean.
Hangeul has many variations and many subtle differences, but it is much simpler than English in terms of conveying the exact meaning.
English often has different meanings due to differences in pronunciation, but Hangeul is mostly understood in context and Korean don't care subtile pronounciation.
Foreigners have no problem talking to Koreans even if they just ignore the details. Most people do not have to speak the exact language as government interpreters.
0:21 it also sounds like glue
It’s easy to pronounce, I guess those 6 years of kdrama really paid off 😂
Just curious, why a counterclockwise direction for ㅇ? Also 감사합니다 for the new video course :) I'm currently working throught the Go Simple 1 workbook and textbook, I'm still on the 한글 section but mostly refreshing my knowledge.
since the stroke order is from left to write and going counterclockwise starts off left to right because regular clockwise on a clock it is right to left im guessing why that is like that I can be wrong i am a beginner
In addition to what the other people said, I think it also helps you write faster if you do circles counterclockwise. Maybe not in the letter ㅇ, but you can kinda feel how it’s more natural when you write the letter ㅎ imo.

gratidão
I wanted to ask that if i make ㄹ sound by sound instruction of your
Do i still need to Focus on English r/l sound for pronouncing ㄹ while reading words??
No, because ㄹ is neither L nor R. It's better to simply make it the correct way, and it will naturally sound the correct way :-)
한글 is starting to not seem as difficult as I thought. Dont get me wrong, its still hard, but not as hard as all of my high school english classes.
i feel like i do need the pronunciation roman help bc i know japanese n is so confusing since its similarto a lot of the letters ): aaaaa

@@GoBillyKorean while I have your attention, why didnt you add the last 4 constants? I was a little confused when I went to go read some Korean to get experience and saw 4 symbols I had no idea existed
@@bluejay9638 Keep moving through these lessons :)
I am just leaving the comment to practice this part 1:49 later again
I was practicing the sounds and my mom asked me what was I even saying lol
2022 ..Let's see how this goes ...
hihi billy if possible please do reply. I have a little confusion. In 6:01 the way you pronounce the 돌 it seems like its ending with a 'L' sound tho that shouldn't be the case as you've told before the pronunciation isnt something like hard 'r' or 'l' but im just confused with that consonant overall. Also ive seen people use that consonant maybe in a different way not sure how but i guess it sometimes depends on the word you're saying sometimes that consonant sounds like an 'l' and other times it sounds like an 'r'. I feel like I wouldn't be able to study further if i have confusion with this.
It's simply due to the letters not being English, so your ears are not yet adjusted to hearing them. They are going to sound like different sounds to you depending on how hard they're pronounced, or what words they appear in, despite the actual Korean letter not changing. Here's an explanation of what's going on: czcams.com/video/gvMeC-CGO2o/video.html
@@GoBillyKorean i saw the video you recommended. It helped alot! Thank you! also i really really like your lessons💓 cant believe i didn't find them earlier

Trying to type in Korean for the first time is like playing a memory card game
I don't know if I'm the one not capable of hearing the difference, but I really struggle to catch the difference between the ㄴ at the end of a triplet syllable and the ㅇ in the same position. The concept of ㅇ sounding like the english "ng" doesn't really works, as every time Billy uses ㅇ I can't hear the final G, basically transforming ㅇ in another N sound. Am I doing something wrong? Is it that perhaps I'm struggling in this case because I'm no English speaker?
That's pretty normal, because ㄴ isn't "N" in English but is softer, so your brain might not hear it as ㄴ but as ㄷ or even ㅇ as a beginner. It will get better, but it can take some time and practice.
@@GoBillyKorean I'll trust you on this. ^^ Thank you!

How do you know what syllable block to write in when writing in Korean
You can simply learn the spelling of a word, the same way you'd learn any language :)
i can write 사랑 the only thing i understand
