You also don't need a fursuit to "be a furry", it's a community thing so if you like the art or the characters within the fandom then that's all you really need. A lot of new furries think they HAVE to have a suit which is not true at all, and suits are insanely expensive.
That being said, making your suit while still expensive is not nearly as bad especially if you follow along with the right instruction. Costs can be still up to about $1000 but its still potentially worth it.
Not true but for me, I feel like before showing myself anywhere near a con, I need a suit to make myself feel more involved because let's face it, you'll turn more heads with a suit than without one

Just wanted to edit my comment a little and I know you'll probably never see this comment but I'd like to thank you for being respectful towards the furries you met, you did the interview the right way and not the wrong way since it's just an interest or hobby and nothing else.
I could tell they weren't ready for an interview but hey, it's still a good, they told the facts and that's what's important.

I like that this guy didn’t try to manipulate the furries into saying something that they didn’t necessarily mean or changing there words to make them seem like general bad people. I still don’t really like furries but I don’t want to be disrespectful because that would really only lead to problems as I have seen.

Thanks for making an interview that doesn´t push us furries into a corner. Most large media outlets fail to that. For example when there was a cholrine gas attack on a furryconvention, people MSNBC broke out in loughter even tho there was 19 injured. So yes thank you so much. ^^
I mean think about that for a second, someone tried to mass kill HUNDREDS of people and luckily he failed, but it could have been worse. Furries are like the weebs for animals, both go deeper than that but they both choose not to show it.

Although I'm no furry, I feel like the furry community isn't bad and alot of them are usually chill people who just have a niche interest in anthro style. The problem is, I feel like the minority of furries who ARE BAD make the rest of the Fandom look horrible. This causes a domino effect and the ones who have no issues and are minding their buisness get looped into the group of horrid people that give furries a bad name. It's nice to see someone give them the chance to get their word out on a respectful and professional level.

I've found this the same way! I learned a little bit about this fandom these past days and I'm actually a bit overwhelmed by thewholesomeness it gives off. I knew furries exist obviously, can't escape them if you're on the internet, but it seems I have been misled by stupid stereotypes aswell, at least to an extend.

I have online friends who are furries and i have no idea why ppl treat furries weird cuz they are just like any other person into a fandom, sure there are bad apples but there are ad apples in all fandoms and im glad they pointed that out, i fins the furry fandom to be quite interesting and just might dive into it

(please note though that in "The Fandom", two people are featured under the moniker of "Dont Hug Cacti". they were exposed afterwards for being zoophiles/r@pists, so skip their interviews. (they shouldve been edited out entirely after being exposed in my opinion but yknow)

Actually, it’s interesting because as a furry, people are so creative. Like, how did the first furry make their fur suit?
Probably based off of mascot suits maybe?

The first furry outfits were made the same way people made any other kind of costume-paper mache, cardboard, fake fur, leather, etc. The techniques really haven't changed all -that- much. Just now we have things like pc fans in noses for cooling, cooling packs, electronics, and 3d printed ears & noses, etc.
what are regarded as the first proper fursuits (full on anthro-animal costumes made specifically for furry fandom activities) were made by shawn keller and bob hill. iirc shawn's suit heads were constructed with foam as they still commonly are today, he was a professional animator working for disney and don bluth so he had a knack for the style. bob worked as a mascot performer for disney and took tips from those costumes so his were sculpted with clay and molded to then be made out of fiberglass. i'm assuming in either case, they used faux furs and fabrics to go over the sculpts and for the rest of the body.
so basically, initially fursuits were constructed with influence from disney and other similar animation studios by people who worked for them, and pretty much with the same or similar materials as they are to this day (aside from fiberglass, but you could argue that mirrors modern resin suit heads.). i'm sure a lot of other furries without the professional background used differing methods after them, like ill-advised cardboard n' stuff. but it's still always been the straightforward "make a sculpted thing to put on your head and then use a ton of fabric to make yourself look like an animal."
... except when prosthetics were popular, but that's a different story.

I just want to make a comment about the sound in this video. That microphone is amazing and whoever chose it and set it up and mixed this video clearly knows what they're doing. Super directional, and doesn't need shoving right in someone's face to pick up the voices clearly., and you can still hear the fursuiters speaking really clearly etc. Great job.

One thing I kind of noticed into like furries and stuff. and this is just from my experience. Most furries that I have talked to came from this traumatic uprising. Im not saying thats the specific reasoning but its some correlation because I too have been in it. I kinda figured I wanted to join in the fandom because believe it or not when I was like 13. I just thought these furries looked cute and fun

I stumbled across the furry fandom at a Furry Party at the San Diego Comic-Con in 1988, but I was already a furry before then. Some original furry material that inspired me as a young child were shows such as The White Seal, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, and Watership Down. Not so much furry but equally inspiring was Jack London's The Call Of The Wild. And if you haven't read it, I cannot strongly enough recommend Allen Dean Fosters Spellsinger series. It's a "man from the modern world gets pulled into a sword and sorcery world" story peopled by, well, furries. That is, mankind is only one of many intelligent species inhabiting the world. When I read it, I would have given anything to trade places with Jon-Tom on that night in the thieves den.

We are very peaceful and are never looking to cause harm in any manner. Idk why people feel the need to bully any member the chance they get. What's worse is that some use this fandom as a safe haven from all the negativity they may experience in their life outside the fandom and when someone just comes and makes their life hell... Well you get the picture, they won't feel safe. And the thing is, we're not looking to hurt the ones who do this to us, we just wish to be left alone by the nasty people. And yet we never seem to catch a break. Oh well, at least there's people like you around nowadays that actually has a brain and acknowledges we're not demented road kill rapists

My fursona is Tsovoa Levone! Her name comes from a misspelling of “Tsovua” hyena in Hebrew and “Levone” moon in Yiddish. She acts more masculine and can get angry easily, this is due to high testosterone in female hyenas in real life. She wears a baseball cap with a soccer ball design and a Star of David necklace, just like me she’s Jewish. She loves Vocaloid music and cartoons, especially the Fairly Oddparents. And yes… her hyena “anatomy” is scientifically accurate, haha, she can use a urinal. Her preference is femboys.

Sounds like a cool sona :D Mines name is Petal and theyre a mix between a calico cat and a red tail catfish! They have the tail and barbels from the fish and the rest is cat :3 they can breathe and swim under water as well :D
HOW DID I FORGET- They have an eyepatch with a rain cloud on their right eye! And Im thinking ab their wings either just being small normal wings or for them to resemble either the dorsal or pectoral fin of the catfish :-)

@@Milijanovic4 Honestly for me I just took animals that I like and mushed them together! I also take parts of my personality and mush it into my fursona :3 I kinda wanted them to be an idealized version of myself in a way :-)
But theres also nothing wrong with a “basic” fursona! As long as you like them theres no issue!

Good interview with the right questions. It is these actions that help to destroy stereotypes and dispel confusion about furries. I can say with certainty that furry culture is getting softer over time, and not just in the US. The influence of this attitude is projected onto other peoples as well. I know what I'm talking about, because I'm from Russia and people here really don't like anything unconventional, but even here we have a normal attitude towards this.

It makes me so sad that people hate on them, they aren't doing anything wrong, and like they said! Only SOME of them are doing the dirty stuff, I really hate that people look at it and think it's cringey or weird. They're just having harmless fun! I think the furry fandom is one of the LEAST toxic fandoms in existance.
Many people hate them as for it is a relatively unique hobby and because of the REAL degenerates.
They think it's a sexual thing, while it's not.
Because we people judge, the bad apples always stand out.

The fandom is an amazing place, and very welcoming to people of all kinds.
