In this video I'm doing a shoulder mount for my nephew's first deer bow kill. This is a great deer. It's gonna cover all the steps between fleshing and finish work.
I started doing taxidermy in 2003 also started with using dry preserve in this time I used different kinds of tans going thru the process but dry preserve have given me the best results I'll never use nothing else again
All my mounts have been dry preserve. I don't do as much taxidermy as I use to, but still do all of our own. I gotta finish three deer of ours in the next few weeks, so I'll try to do a finish work video then. Dry preserve is a good method as long as the way done and fish is good work. It will hold together just as long. My first mounts look the same today as they did 19 years ago
Bond ear form come from Dan chase which was bought out by Second 2 Nature Taxidermy. I'm assuming they offer it still. Lips, Go slow with a scapold, split it best as possible in middle, then rub dry preserve into it good so it's easier to grip. Then shave it with scapold. I use the round blades. It's not easy. Eyes, nose, lips, ears will always be the most time consuming
Super good video. I’ve been wanting to get into taxidermy myself. Thanks for sharing.
No prob. Not a bad trade to learn for sure!!
Excellent instruction! First video I have seen explaining the dry preserve method. I’m going to try this on my next one instead of tanning.
I've mounted a lot of deer with this method and never had a problem. Good luck!!
Enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skills in taxidermy. I have subscribed to your channel.
Thanks for Subscribing and appreciate the comments. Hopefully you'll enjoy the other stuff we got going as well!!!
Bradley did my 10 point mount a few years ago. So lifelike and I got to help him finish it.

I’ve never really seen the process before. I really enjoyed seeing how it’s done. Maybe one day you can show a European skull mount.
I'll have to do that. All are clean for this season, but I've got to finish some soon. I'll try put up a video for that
At what point do you get the measurements for the form? Do you flesh then measure and freeze, or flesh, measure, then salt?
Any tips for splitting the lips? Also where did you get the bondo ear form?
