Woodturning by Spinfield Turners: A burr elm box retaining natural features

  • I'd had some bits of burr elm knocking around for ages Finally decided to start making some small boxes.
    Retaining the natural under bark features on the lid, meant some fun with a DIY screw chuck.

    Nice! I love burr/burl boxes. Years ago, Sam Angelo did a video on box making where he hot glued the top into a bowl/jam chuck to keep the burr natural. Works great if you don’t want to add a finial.

      @@spinfieldturners It was about 5-7 years ago and it may have been about a burr/burl bowl. Afraid just the technique stuck, but not what he was making.
