- Andy Statman's best known composition, The Flatbush Waltz - widely emulated but never duplicated - as performed by Andy (mandolin), Jim Whitney (bass) and Larry Eagle (drums and percussion) with very special guests Jon Sholle (guitar) and David Grisman (mandolin).
Live in concert, NYC, April 2011
RIP Jon Sholle, a very special guest indeed!
What a solo by him
This was our wedding song--even learned to waltz to dance to it. We had the Rude Girls version, which is excellent, too.
these men are incredible at exploring melody
it's a true journey
Very beautiful 💐
Gm/A flat haunting, interesting old friends endure more than only musical changes
And this is the only song we children - played live at our father's funeral.
The mid- song improv is great.. Andy is the bridge between blue grass purist, hippies and religious (frum) Jews. Kol Hakavod
Lovely Indeed!
Loved this; thanks for sharing!!!
The melody reminds me of "Als ich fortging" (Karussell/Dirk Michaelis).
Only Andy can play this right. I've tried to listen to covers of this tune, and they're all awful. This rendition by the composer is the only one worth listening to, and that experience is divine.
Clearly influenced by Yerushalayim Shel Zahav, another Jewish tune Andrew Statman and David Grisman play. Very cool!
