I never knew I needed medieval AutoCAD until I saw this.
We love medieval AutoCAD.
I did know that I would love a medieval AutoCAD, but I never thought it would ever exist.
FYI scimitars usually have the lower part of the blade curve a little forward while the tip end is the one curved back. Also scimitars usually have curved handles for stronger hacking motion.
To add to this, one way to think about scimitars is a bit like an axe made out of blade. The tip is larger to get more weight behind it and the edge is curved so that it faces more towards what you're cutting.
There are also many with straight handles and straighter or more backwards-curving lower end of blade, similar to his. You can check out historically accurate and battle-ready scimitars that are similar in many ways to this sword on Kult of Athena
Can't do curved handles sadly
@@justjay4586 oh, those type of curve sword are usually design more for slashing and cutting like the katana they use a different concept of push & pull motion. Call me barbaric but i like swords that can hack 😅
As a swordman, I hope you know I'll be judging the efficiency of your design closely. Now to clarify this is not hate and should be viewed as for educational purposes only.
Review:
Sword one
Looks decent, but I wouldn't say it's combat ready. Much to wide giving great weight, and the handle is a little long. It would however be a great sword for a large individual with high muscle mass
Sword Two
Obviously made as a joke, just to be a demonstation of what you can do. No questions asked, it isn't battle ready in the slightest and was never intended to be. I can not write a serious review on a satire blade
Sword Three
Looks fantastic, but that's about it. My main issue is the handle construction, the pumbel being made of sold gold and being so large is ridiculous, the obsidian crossguard would shatter easily, having 2 crossguards in general is redundant. Your well known for your redundancy, but its not required on swords. The obsidian grip is another issue, it would be very smooth and by definition hard to grip, additionally it would fracture easily and turn your hands to shredded paper after some use, manufacturing obsidian with such detail anyways would also be a problem. The greatest concern I have is related to the first thing I mentioned, it's all gold. Gold is heavy, like really heavy.
"Sword" Four
Its a scythe. A traditional War Scythe would have been pointed forward like a spear, and flamboyance is better suited for blade to blade contact, not for cutting though flesh. Atleast at the levels you put it at. It comes with the set of combat efficiency flaws all scythes have, but i mean come on its a Scythe, Scythe's are cool
Thumbnail sword is a video game sword, it’s chain linked in each segment, henceforth the bends
Take in consideration that a longer handle allows the welder to easily move the blade if it's heavy. As it will give them a higher lever force.
@@tale7955 I assure you I was. It just seems like overkill. Though for someone with other hands and strength it would be a nice sword
You're no swordsman. The first one was a typical broad sword
I'm glad me(not a sword person) and a sword person agree about the obsidian 😂
I was really hoping he'd chang it to like black leather lmao (edit:the grip specifically)
I love how you can just get lost in the tiny details in this game, it’s kind of relaxing
Well now... as a D&D player, I absolutely adore this. I'll be able to model the swords my characters use. I'm excited to see how many more parts are available in the final version, after trying it out myself in this beta test. I'm also deeply intrigued by the idea of a campaign mode - I would guess you'll be making and selling swords, possibly by commission? Very interesting.
YES BRO, this was my first thought when I saw this game
Imagine there was a way to download this to 3d print it (Color would be an issue and it would have to be a mini version but still)
*gasp* laser katana!
Gasp lightsaber
My exact thought when I saw the glowing materials
the only problem is the fact that you can't apply the glow to the blade. You could try applying the glow to the handle and making a handle out of the blade, essentially using the handle as a blade and the blade as a handle.
............murasama?
Alternative title;
Scrapman builds SkyRim paddle swords. :D
Pro-tip;
If you try to go for a realistic build, be aware of the weight.
One-handed swords were about 1.5 - 2.0kg. Anything above that is simply too heavy to wield properly.
Even a two-hander, like a Claymore, rarely exceeded 2.5 - 3.0kg.
It all comes down to leverage and intertia.
On a side note;
This game could, even now, be a really useful tool for blade-smiths to pre-vis their projects.
1.5kg is really heavy for a one handed sword.
@@Zane12ai
You're right, I misremembered.
Average longsword weight was 1.0 to 1.5 kg.
2 kg would be somewhat unwieldy for a one-hander
Umm. I hate to be that guy, but as a smith, your numbers are for pounds not kilograms. 1.5 to 3 pounds, with some of the largest weighing up to a max of about 8 (heard of 2 historical 10 pound swords)
then again you have the worlds strongest men like eddie so a heavy one handed or 2 handed sword would be no issue considering people back then were built like tanks
@@The_Keeper aint no way swords are that light
Pls make more of this, it looks like you enjoy it and I would love to see more of this.
I love that first narrow you added to the scimitar that just isn't doing anything
IT WILL KEEEELLL
Love the reference
Forged In Fire baby!!!
Welcome to Baltimore Knife and Swords, this is (Scrap)Man at Arms: Reforged :D
You have to love the noises Scrapman makes when he's excited ... Love you Scrapman ..
Shad and the gang gonna be all over this
They'll either create a legendary blade or get lost in the option and end up with a mall-ninja atrocity! xD
We need to inform shadiversity and skallagrim they're going to like this one
Oh I'm sorry looking forward to it!
This is the game i want when i was young
you having a stroke?
It would be awesome if they did simulations to test the sword and see if it would actually be viable as a weapon.
None of these would be 😂
@@Dave-qs6dg The 'broadsword' isn't a broadsword, but it'd probably be fine if it's relatively short. Make the scimitar 30-50% thinner and it'd likely work.
The uh. Weird snake sword thing, not so much.
@@basedeltazero714Add a distal taper to the "broadsword" and it'd work pretty well, I think.
As someone who collects historical arms and armor, that Scimitar is a massive culture shock hahaha it definitely is something out of fiction and would in no way be practical in battle.
Absolutely beautiful to look at, so if i was to buy it, it would be a wallhanger.
What inventor does (or any major modeling program) is, depending on the attribute that your curser is hovering over, it will highlight what that attribute is affecting on the model you're working with. I think that should be implemented.
Also, in AutoCAD you can hold "SHIFT" to lock on to your coordinate planes (0 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, 270 degrees), I think implementing something like that for snapping onto the center of your piece would be awesome.
Also also, if it's not a thing yet, being able to change the blade material and steel type would be sick. Like being able to do regular stacked Damascus steel, or star Damascus, or Damascus that uses different metals (steel and copper for example)... things like that. And with the Damascus metal, an etching intensity gauge should be available. (also color options for the blade).
This looks like a sick game, i think you should definitely bring it back when it's fully out, maybe check out workshop creations if they implement it
I'd love more sword videos! Excited to see what you can do with the full game
On the issue you had with the scythe, that's because tangs would not be so long. The tang on a spear or scythe would only be as long as that of a normal sword. The handles of scythes and spears are typically made of long shafts of wood, where the spearhead or scythe part would be mounted to, the tang would not go through the entire length as that could cause issues with weight or balance if I recall correctly.
most spears dont really have a tang. instead, most historical spears had a socket which the haft fit into, sometimes with added reinforcement bars on the sides. this was fine for a spear because it was primarily a thrusting weapon.
To a degree, I feel like this game is a character creator without a game attached to it. Like it would be cool if there was some kind of fighting game attached to it that allowed you to test your sword designs in battle!
that fun fact popup, is AMAZING! please continue!!!
A glaive would allow for a sword style blade but also have not so much curve that the tang clips through the handle. And also pole arms are underrated and should get more recognition.
You can put the hilt poles on sideways using the guard center parts, as all aps are compatible
Always love it when you branch out into new games, and I think you found a great one this time. Please don't be afraid to branch out more often.
With the runes you can make the bluetooth sword
Hot tip.
You can fix the displacement in the handle by adding a second curve with the same intensity in the opposite direction. Zoom in as far as you can and shrink it as much as you can up to the tang without snapping it shut, and the handle should realign.
I was able to make a scythe and extend the handle past the zoom with the tang staying central. Not sure what the cutoff where you need to do this is, but it should help people improve their creations
The hilt was totally reminding me of a fret board guitar neck vibes. Really cool
YES!!! Let's vote for Scrap man to make a guitar sword.
If this had combat as well it would be one of the most popular games
Man, I can’t wait to get my hands on this! I’ve been wanting to model swords forever, but I don’t have the know how (or patience) for blender or other 3-d modeling software, so this looks right up my alley. Would love to learn physical bladesmithing someday as well, but I’m definitely getting too old for that. lol. 😊
2:52 A sword’s hilt includes the crossguard, handle and pommel. Also, I like the Othala on the pommel there
The first sword you made on camera I have never seen before but I didn’t look it up when you first mentioned it I waited til you were done and wow it looks good
lol just woke up
Same
Swords!!!!
Been blacksmithing for a few years and i will absolutely be using this to give my customers an idea of what their piece will look like and to help flesh out ideas this is amazing!
I absolutely love this and want it yesterday. (Possibly literally - checking link)
I'd love to see some gameplay implementation, maybe a selection of fighting styles affected by the weight, and somehow manage damage based on blunt force and cutting trauma, so you can also account for hammers.
Obviously, I'd also love to see the different weapon type options as suggested in the scythe section. Probably easiest to have the handle rotate by 90° and let us figure the rest out.
Also metal types. Bronze blades would look so cool. Consider density with my previous suggestions
This is an amazing D&D concept and art tool... as a DM I appreciate this. I will be using this to make weapons and art😅
The details you can achieve in this game absolutely incapsulates me, I will definitely be getting this game when it comes out, please make more videos on this!
Thanks Scrapman, now I have gotten addicted to making swords!
This game seems awesome, I love the little details you can go into as well as how it shows the actual physics and centre of mass and rotation of the sword. It would be epic if there was a 1v1 dueling system where you can use each of your own swords and the different physics and edge shape and blade of your sword comes into play.
Or even an NPC dueling system similar to how Sprocket has the scenarios to test your tanks in.
I was just thinking about how cool it would be if there was a sword making game like this
This game definitely has potential. I would love to see more when it comes out
im definitely going to be watching this games development, i hope they add more "decals" like runes but of scratches and cracks, also i hope there can be blade paint, different metal types like damascus, different metal colors, etc. Id love to build a dark silvery blade with cracks that look like blue lightning with an obsidian and silver hilt. Would also be cool if you can natively export the models you create into common 3d modeling engine file types, like exporting into blender, or exporting to unity to use in a game. This game doesnt have to be just a game, it can be a tool as well if done "right". And modeling a sword in this looks so much easier than modeling a sword in blender.
We need more of this game already best game of the year so far we need a katana video and a lightsaber video please
That is crazy what made out of that small thing it looks so good
Mate. This needs to be a feature in something like mount and blade. That'd be sick.
Once this game is fully out, this will be one of my top favorites to mess with. I hope you can export it as a 3D file because this would be great for 3D prints for cosplay. It would also be awesome for blender renders and video games.
It would also be a cool way for your DND players to forge their own weapons.
Scrapman really seems to enjoy this game, would love to see more!
make more of this game please, it looks really interesting!
A campaign for this actually sounds really cool, I'd totally watch Scrap do that.
They should make this game like automation, where you can import your sword to a fighting game to use, would be sick
Thai was so fun to watch you make swords keep up the great work
You literally have no idea how long I have waited for a game like this.
17:43 it needs to stay for about 4-6 seconds longer
motorcycle train battle. basically, the first car is a two wheeled inline thing, and the cars are the same way.
Love it. Seriously LOVE it.
It's like someone said, "What if Sprocket but sword?" and thus Bladesong was made.
Imagine there’s an rpg games that could team up with this game where you could make a sword, then transfer the file to the rpg so you can crate your own sword.
I hope they add some rapier and hammer parts if so I'll 100% look into it!
I have to thank you for this, I just went and am now part of the play test, and it looks sooo cool! thank you for bringing awareness to this
Scrapman out here making scythes and here I am making a buster sword that took me like 10 minutes.
If this game was combined with blade & sorcery, it would be the best thing ever
If you could somehow export the build, it would actually be fairly simple to mod it in.
@@The_Keeper you probably actually can, save files usually have folders with steam
Imagine being able to create your own custom blade in a fantasy or medieval game, man that would be awesome
ScrapMan: Creates a scythe.
The Grim Reaper has entered the chat.
Immediately downloaded after this video. Making swords is fairly easy alot of tweaks can be made but this is already top notch and needs to be spread through the dnd community.
@scrapman they way you made the scimitar felt effortless I spent a good couple hrs trying to make a halberd to grant failure lol
We need more of this!
This feels like a tool a DM could use to create the visuals for their super unique magic weapon they want in their campaign.
Bro its almost like we are in the official ScrapMan Sword making class!
This is a game I've aways wanted to see!
bro I love this game and I hope you play it more as I would love to see u make more things
I hope this game gets the ability to make your own block of damascus metal. Damascus is a blend of metal that adds patterns to the weapon.
Game looks very fun atm.
Loving the recent content
the thumbnail reminded me of that old game you played where everything was like cardborad and you could design your own weapons
Scimitars are typically slashing weapons. Single edge and corved to be used from the speed of cutting into people from the back of camels and horses. For that reason the hilt are more like the end of a cane with a curve at the end that allows you to hold on to it while swinging it around at speed. I have a real one at home, and while the inspiration is nice, but they are typically pretty thing and narrow.
The shape you used is more like a Chinese dao (which is more like the broad sword type)
Realy cool game! Add some strength and handling tests after its completed and I would definitely play this!
more bladesong!!!
I could imagine some guy a thousand years after the initial scimitar creation in a fantasy setting sitting in the armoury obsessively polishing the scimitar hoping for a war to use the scimitar beyond training...
great video!
It looks nice
Brok and Sindri be proud.
So cool!!
MAKE MORE OF THIS!!!
This is really cool
I love this!
since you know how to use the tools you should get with Shaduniversity and collab on a sword or a couple swords.
im mad i missed the demo for this
as an actual blacksmith for me this would be such a good tool.
if nothing more than to visualize my end goal of a project.
one thing i hope they add
swept hilts
as somone who also practices sword fighting the most common place to get hit in a battle is directly on your fingers or wrists
not that im the one taking those hits
This is basically a fancy CAD program...next we will be watching Scrapman learn Solidworks🤣
nice vid!
This game looks amazing, I think a sharing system where you can build on (or atleast view) designs from other players would be cool. Also a way to convert your blades into a model you can use in other programs would make the game excellent for designing swords to use in games that focus on combat with said swords.
Sharing is already a thing, there is a share button in game at the top right that will generate a code for that sword. You can enter that in the main menu where it says "Paste magic words" and "Conjure" and it will get recreated from it.
@@dominikdoom can it be converted to stl to be printed?
for the scyth, i would have made several curvatures all effecting the same place at the base of the base to nearly flatten the blade and then do the actual blade
On your build, the curled deflector is wasted as it is designed to catch the opponent's blade and with a twist, you are able to disarm your opponent in your case you can't access that option.
Scrapman:it's here till February 11th me who's watching on February 10th: I got to hurry one day left
Would be neat to use this as a way to design DND weapons and special weapons for your party! Like you could just upload this as a file onto your computer to use in another software
Great videos Scrap!
Would love to see you design one, and Alec Steele make it IRL
yeah
you could also use this game to create detailed depictions of artifacts that were created in Dwarf Fortress.
Ayy earliest I’ve found one of his videos! 5 minutes!
Why does the scrap sword look dope as hell bro fr looks like a legendary rank weapon lol
The hilt is the last thing you do when making swords.
bro looks like a medieval peasant, fits right into the game
