  • Beets are gaining interest in Belgium. They are a nice addition to (dairy) cows' rations and fit well into a crop rotation. But the beets have to be fed clean to the cows. Franco & Son invested in a Cross Agricultural Engineering Elephant to clean beets. The machine can remove soil, stones and foliage from beets at a rate of up to 100 tonnes per hour.
The beets are dumped by wheel loader into the 3-tonne bunker, after which they pass through a cyclone filled with water to the washing drum. In the cyclone, heavy contaminants such as stones sink to the bottom. In the washing drum, the beets are cleaned of soil and foliage residues. From the washing drum, a conveyor belt transports the beets to the tipper, truck or pile.
Optionally, the beet can also be chopped by a shredder at the end of the conveyor belt.
