@@zaruuchshekel5806grace does guide the tarnished. But it had to be given back to them. Think, why did our tarnished receive a speck of grace unlike the others mentioned in the opening sequence? Could’ve been miquella giving it to us. We may not have been intended to receive grace at all.

Something I noticed, the place where Marika holds up those gold strands is very similar to the tree in the Land of Shadows. Two dark rising monuments with gold sandwiched between. I'm willing to bet that place is the base of the shadow tree
yeah some people were saying it's the crucible which gave birth to the erdthree , the crucible is made of corpses like I'm the crucible Knight's shield description it says that it was a amalgamation of life or something like that
I believe the two "monuments" you describe with the gold inbetween, is the crucible. The very formation of the erdtree. The crucible has been described as "primordial flesh", which when you look at the masses closely, you can almost see arms and bodies reaching out. When you think about things like erdtree burial, important people/warriors being buried in the roots of the erdtree, it makes sense. I'm almost certain the scene we see with Marika holding out the golden strands is her at the creation of the erdtree.
also want to note that the crucible has not yet been seen ingame, only been described. This could be the little piece of lore we have been missing and not seen yet.
I think Dragons will play a bigger role, which might be why they have been missing from the DLC trailers except for Messmer's eyes. I wonder if this affair was with Dragons.

Did you notice that in the gameplay trailer, the player used a bear roar similar to that of a dragon's. I don't know what that means, but I remember people saying rune bears are connected to dragons

i think messmer is still killing on marikas behalve and the bodies are used as firteliser to keep up the erdtree and the illusion/ seal. I also think marika impregnated the GEQ as radagon and than had her killed and used the child of both empyrians as a sacrifice to create her order. Hence, she takes gold from the belly.

This. The trailer mentions seduction and betrayal at the same time Marika is looting the Elden Ring from the Gloam-Eyed Queen's corpse. Marika could've just... slept with the Gloam-Eyed Queen in the beginning and betrayed her.
Notice how Marika holds the golden fibers similarly to how the elden ring holds her when we encounter her at the end of the base game, remember GRRM player a role in story telling and it's fitting how the beginning and the ending of her reign have parallels

Marika wears her robes draped over her chest. Radagon wears it exactly the way we see in the trailer. also the hair its only where the golden light that touches that gives off the marika gold. The hair in the shadows is still red. They are one and the same being but have you ever questioned where they came from. Why they are 2 made one in the lands between.

One of my theories I thought of long ago has to do with how Marika even got the Elden Ring...
The dragon lord waits beyond time for his god to return. Where did the god go? And how did Marika get the elden ring after? The Greater Will doesnt seem to influence things directly, so i dont think it was just given to her. Seeing as the game revolves around TAKING power, and knowing how brutal Marika can be, I assumed she probably attained this power either by finding the remains of the god or killing the god.
Now in the trailer they talk about an "affair". Empyreans chosen to be gods are female (aside from Miquella). So the previous god to the dragon lord was most likely female. Messmer is assumed to be Marika's child, and he has RED hair and a dragon eye...
Thus I conclude that Radagon was a part of Marika a lot longer than we realised, and Radagon seduced the previous god so Marika could kill and take the power for herself.
Personally I think that Placi's God left for whatever reason and this left a huge power vacuum. However, the time of the dragons is prehistoric. So I think it's not out of the question that there were other dynasties or kingdoms in the time between Placi and Marika. Maybe like an age of beasts where Serosh was a regent of some area, probably what is currently Leyndell

At 0:51 in the E3 announcement trailer shows Marikas hammer and from it the Same Golden Strands that we see in the shadow of the erdtree trailer.
I think she stole the object that gave power to the original God/ruler of the shadow land, she usurped this being and used Messmer to decimate all opposition using their corpses to give life to the Erdtree
It's funny how Fromsoft confirmed there was no time travel this time, when that's most of what we've been shown so far.

I think the monolith of bodies seems to be the early Erdtree. The golden light in the center looks like the entrance to Radagon's boss arena
I think that fire burning memories is very relevant for two reasons and has a big consequence as well :
1- The Tonic of Forgetfulness given to us by Tanith in the volcano manor is showing fire or embers inside, and is supposed to make people forget.
2- Melina, who seemlingly has burned once already has forgotten her purpose and needs to go to the base of the Erdtree to find it again, and indeed she does, and truly becomes the Kindling Maiden.
3 - The Erdtree that is in the Lands Between, like Tarnished Archeologist compiled in a recent video, has burned before. The Capital is covered in ashes, and misbegotten are crying next to tombs, close to burned buildings.
The Erdtree is now in golden (therefore godly) spirit form but no one really talks about it. That could imply that whoever burned the Erdtree, commited the first cardinal sin, has been forgotten by everyone as well. So who did it and why ?

I think that GEQ connections are too far stretched because we know that she was defeated by Maliketh. Maliketh seems to have nothing to do with everything shown in the trailers. He also doesn't appear in any of the scenes.
I also doubt that this pile of bodies is a fertilizer. Miquella raised en enormous tree using only his own demigod blood while the Erdtree has burials all over the Lands Between. So, I think the pile of bodies is a sacrifice to gain the Greater Will's attention. OR Marika slaughtered everyone in order to get these very rare golden threads.
One thing of note is how the flame Messmer uses in the new trailer is a blood red like destined death whereas in the first trailer it's more of an orange red. Possibly implying that he was using destined death on behalf of Maliketg.
Maliketh hasn't been directly mentioned, but we have to assume he plays a part in all of these events. Just like how Blaidd is there with Ranni throughout the events of the main game as she establishes her order
The bodies could be related to the crucible - a primordial melting pot where life was once blended together. The bodies are all skinned and mushed together.

This is going to be one of the very best experiences of all time, not just in games, but media more broadly. It’s a shame that games still don’t have the same recognition as books and movies because how can you look at something like this and not deem it worthy of comparison to some of the best films, books and tv shows in its genre? The creativity and talent on display to produce something that not only looks beautiful but has a unique and captivating way of presenting its story deserves more widespread respect outside of the gaming sphere. Can’t wait to play it!
It is a shame yes but, television is almost 100 years old while books are 1000’s of years old. While they are all creativity flourishing, it makes sense the perception of gaming being a valid form of writing and/or directing is slightly behind those two.

A detail in the trailer that no one is talking about is how when we get a close up of Messmer's face with the Lion Dance entity charging at him, his curse marked/closed eye begins to seep out flames it looks like. Just some food for thought as I don't know what that could indicate, but just thought it was neat.
Idk if anyone has noticed but the shadowed erdtree looks like two different trees with one being wrapped around the other one
I watch a lot of tarnished archeologist, the upside down arcing building, under the shadow erdtree where the golden is seeping down into the building. This has to be parallel to how in leyndell, queens bed chamber is basically a giant crystal tear basin with an opening at the top of the room allowing for a stream of light. Ofcourse it’s only just light now being that the erdtree is a “phantom”, but in the age of plenty it was used for Marika to recieve the erdtree’s sap. What’s wild to me is this shadow tree is still dripping sap, this shadow Erdtree still has value it seems. I’m very curious as to whom or what is in this room, collecting the sap. Might just be a really cool boss room to get my ass beat several times.
4:25 I think Marika is somewhere like that, because it's the erdtree.....that doorway looking thing she's standing in, the opening into the golden area, it's the same shape as the entrance into the tree at the end of the base game? I think that part of the trailer is showing us how Marika created the erdtree and the Elden Ring

That thing she pulls the golden strands out of has blanket stitching along the edge.
Godskin swaddling cloth says it was sewn together:
“ Sacred cloth of the Godskin Apostles, made from supple skin sewn together.”
The flesh of it looks less pale/sickly and thicker than the other godskin apparel, maybe referring to the “supple” adjective?
Also, it definitely looks like there’s something else inside the cloth, it’s a slightly different texture and color. Also, in the freeze frame, you can see it’s behind her finger.

Honestly, you were the first to refer to the golden strings as hair and I thank you for that. It’s clearly hair
No, Master smith Hewg was bound by marika to the round table to smith a god slaying weapon, and is very old at this point especially for a demibeast, he has dementia which is apparent as he keeps "forgetting" you and the only thing holding him together is the "curse" bound to him. So when you burn the erdtree, you burn the round table, and when you burn the round table you burn his bindings thus "freeing" him from his purpose. An giving some of the best voice acting/lines an NPC can give before losing himself completely as he stutters this out to you Hewg: "Allow me to call you this just once before it ends. My Lord, for that is what you are." I am not afraid to say that made me tear up and cry a little.
What’s crazy is if you look at the close up in the story trailer you can see Messmer’s hair is Red and Gold at the same time at 1:23 in the trailer. It’s a mixture of both you have to look closely at the helm it becomes gold underneath it. I wonder how it ties into the lore is he how he really is?
I cant see it being a past section unless you needed to see something specific, or undo something already done, in the end the story will only make sense if it ends in the present because of Miquellas part in said plot. It may not say it clearly, but its there.
I like the theory that the WAP in the story trailer is a snakes head and she's pulling the golden threads from its eye. You can see a sphere inside the socket. Maybe the gloam eyed queen was a giant serpent? Maybe it's the snake mentioned in the serpent God curved sword item description, with some connection to the crucible? Maybe an embodiment of the crucible that was cut from history to legitimize the Erdtree?
Miquella's symbol is an eclipse. Which you hear a lot about in castle Sol.
Oh also new theory on what the strands are being pulled from! If it's not the belly of the woman in the painting, then maybe it's the bald head of the old geezer in the painting. This is assuming If Marika is actually the woman in the painting in disguise, then that could explain why the man would be covered in her clothe, and why Marika is shirtless during that scene.
Tbh, I think it is the Gloam-Eyed Queen (I dont believe that is St. Trina) I think the GEQ came before Marika and she turned into Radagon and slept with her. The bond between Radagon (Gold) and the Gloam-Eyed Queen (Shadow) made Messmer. That is just my take... the Gloam Eyed Queen could look similar to the Godskin... the current godskins wear a gemstone a very similar color to what is associated with her.
We are not the only tarnished that have grace, Godfrey has grace, and it can be seen in his boss fight intro cinematic with Morgott
I always took the scene where Godfrey has morgrot in his arms and the grace coming from morgot's body pointing at us, meaning that we are the only one left between him and the elden ring.
And the trailer wasn't drop in a random Tuesday, it was on Tuesday 21, one month before the release of the dlc.

I’m afraid that this entire DLC is from Beserk 1997.
- The reason that Radahn needs to be killed is for the skys to be clear so the Eclipse can happen
- The scene with St. Trina falling somewhere and Miquella losing his fate looks a lot like Griffith falling into the Abyss and embraces his evil and becomes a god.
- Griffith even asks Guts if he’ll follow him.
- Like Griffith, Miquella was held captive and possibly tortured to the brink of insanity
- RIP to all those NPC’s at the end of the trailer. Everyone that followed Griffith gets sacrificed so he can become a god.

I’ll leave a comment so I can come back to this if it turns out to be true, but I’m skeptical. A lot of imagery in Elden ring is taken pretty 1:1 from Elden ring, but the overall story is fairly distinct, with only individual character story beats borrowing things from berserk. Plus we can’t forget about GRRM’s backstory and this dlc being largely about Marika’s past as well.
Additionally, I am 99.9% certain that image that FromSoft put out of the blonde haired character is Miquella.
Naomi McDonald is already credited with voicing Miquella and that is her voice in the trailers. It looks like we will start the DLC when Miquella is himself. I'm gonna a guess and say he will transform into St Trina because of something Mohg did and then fall into an abyss and turn into his true evil. Most likely the place where Queen Marika is at the start of the trailer.

Miquella was a host for Marika. Once she was to die, his body needed to be ready for her to possess.
I watch the 3 hours dlc game play in some channel, they said miquella was headed inside the gate of divinity, which is the gate that marika standing in the beginining story trailer

@11:00 I've started to feel with the mention of leaving both Gold and Fate behind that this imagery is meant to invoke the Moon and the Erdtree, and how Miquella had to abandoned both of them to get to the Land of Shadow. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that Miquella was born under the conjoined(coughGRAFTEDcough) stars of Radagon and Rennala's marriage that never separated due to Radahn. Miquella's seemingly loose ties to Caria would come together rather nicely if that was the case.
In the description of Godfreys axe, it says it was damaged during the long march, meaning outside the lands between. Could this indicate that Godfrey may have gone here to the shadow realm and faced Messmer and lost? Maybe that's who killed him initially, but he doesn't remember.
Could be. Also if you remember during the games opening scene it shows Horah Loux impaled by spears ! Maybe he was slain by Messmer the impaler and became Godfrey after that? We will find out in 3 weeks 😂

Hmm the betrayal part seems very interesting to me marika fromsoft loves to use figures from mythology marika seems to be an aphodite like character and godfrey seems to be ares with the guy in the painting maybe seeming to be a HEPHAESTUS like at least in looks and not sure on the crafting part but was marika's husband she ditched simply to go with godfrey to form a new order with?

Off topic, but I noticed that in each three of the imperians, there are similarities. One of the three is depicted as a beloved person, one as a traitor and a sinner, the last as being between two sides, which is why he has an internal conflict and rejection of his form. First - godwyn, miquella, radahn; Second - messmer???, rykard, mogh; Third - ranni, malenia, morgott.
i get your point but mogh did did not betray anyone he just got selected by formless mother. also radahn and malenia should be on same page they are not well loved or hated. also ranni is the most loved child of ranella, and ranni should be in traitor category as she led black knife assasins and killed godwyn the golden

I have a theory: What if Messmer is actually the first born of Marika and Radagon and an unintentional third instance of Merika where her and Radagon are reunited as a singular being once more, resulting in Messmer inheriting the curse of the Fire Giants and the Frenzied Flame. as for Miquella, perhaps he is somehow responsible for maintaining the veil that is preventing Messmer from leaving the Land of Shadow.
1:46 I think this being Marika only works if you think Marika used to have dark hair! Look very closely under those tassels around her cheeks; that girlie’s got dark curly hair yo! I think she might be the hooded woman kneeling in the fire.
I pretty strongly believe that Radagon is Messmer’s father while the GEQ (the woman in the painting) is his mother. On a side note, it would make a sort of sense if Radagon had a thing for dark hair just as Rennala had a thing for red hair, being of the mountaintops where the Fire Giants reside! 😏 Messmer learns that Marika is Radagon and devotes himself to her.

There is picture of godfrey impaled in this base game. Could this be Messmer doing? Also I am sure the person at the beginning was Marika. The stairs look identical to the one leading to the final boss in the base game and the bodies around is what became the erdtree or rather feeding the erdtree. We can get this from the catacombs with bodies at the erdtree roots which is claimed to be erdtree burial.
Another thing. I think Miquella must have compelled Hewg and not Marika . So when his duty was fulfilled, he forgot everything

I have a theory about why the Golden Order and possibly the Greater Will are at odds with the blasphemous serpent. The Serpent that consumed Rykard devours flesh and becomes stronger the more souls it consumes. The Erdtree is the same it gets stronger the more souls it consumes so it would only follow that they would be at odds because they are taking eachothers "food" source.
The only problem I have with this video is saying Miquella “gave himself” to Mohg, its straight up stated that Mohg took Miquella. All the clues point to Mohg taking him while he was in the cacoon or tree. We can even see the chasm where Miquellas cacoon was in the tree where you find Malenia.

We go get the dlc just to realize that’s Marika’s mom and now we go an entirely new story to think about 😅
I know we have all tried to place Messmer’s birth and parentage in the timeline and make it fit, but it just occurred to me- why? Why does he need to be a child of Marika? Why can’t he be a husband? Marika has a history of putting her husbands away… this would explain the betrayal, seduction, and affair we hear. And I know Messmer refers to her as Mother, but it would not be amiss for any religion, cult, zealot, fanatic, or even royalty to want to be referred to as Mother. We have many modern day examples (Queen Elizabeth) where a population referred to her as queen mother or mum. And works of fiction, like a song of ice and fire, where the populace called Khaleesi “Meesa“ or Mother. Religions refer to their gods or goddesses in maternal and paternal ways. So again, I ask… what if Messmer was her first husband and waged this war for her. Then she betrayed and hid him away? Even would explain when Messmer taunts “wouldst thou lordship sanction in one so bereft of light?” as more derogatory and exasperated. Like “really? You left me and this is who is your consort?”

That old man in the painting could be placidusax, since we know dragons could take human form. The woman by him is either Marika or the gloam eyed queen, I don't really think they were the same person. Their outer god could be the formless mother, as the dragon communion seal is called formless drake blood.
The woman next to him is likely Fia who is also a dragon aspect
If Marika is the pregnant woman, perhaps there’s kind of a King Arthur thing going on with her, the old king, and Messmer being a Mordred type character

What if it's Marika defeating the gloam eyed queen when they were both empryeans. And what if radagon was used to make a kid (messmer) before. Like with the gloam eyed queen and that was another reason the were beefing. That was a betrayal that lead to the birth of the Golden order and the shadow realm to help hide what has occurred.
SO my endgame in this game is pending of if we can side with Miquella, or Messmer or out right fight them. we shall see.
Everyone is getting so tripped up by the line, gold was born and shadow too. I think all that means is, obviously, the golden order and the idea of shadow. As in, the shadow realm always existed, but it was at the beginning , just the realm, and then with the creation of the golden order, and all things gold, the idea of the shadow realm being different from that was created.
I think Miquella went to the Shadow to do her thing and ran into messmer who is immune to her power. So she needs her followers to come to the shadow to help her.
This doesn’t mean though that she’s a good guy, cuz everyone in Elden ring is kinda fucked up. I think we’ll be able to fight both of them too.

I propose that Marika used to have hair resembling Melina and when she obtained those strands it became a golden hair.
Melina is our closest source to Marika and when Melina sacrificed herself for the sake of the new Lord, in some way it mirrors the trailer scene by redeeming Marika of what she did.
If the in the beginning of the trailer it is showing marika becoming god then radagon isn’t cursed by the fire giant god thus not being a redhead yet he would still be a blonde.

What marika is pulling out is Grace and those aren’t Godskins because Malekith defeated the godskins later on also It’s confirmed that sites of grace will be present just like the base game also notice how Marikas chest looks more masculine when she’s holding the grace between those massive stacks of corpses which some theorize might possibly be the crucible A literal blend of life
