Ahh, the beginning. They fooled us all into making us think this was just another silly rogue cop show. We had no idea what we were in for. One of the greatest series in the history of television.
@@primmslimm7185 nah Mayans is watchable. Not as good as The Shield or even Sons of Anarchy though, but it is trying. firing Kurt Sutter sealed its fate, and now that it's ending after a paltry 5 seasons makes it seem more like a missed opportunity than a true successor.
First time watch was crazy I’m currently rewatching it after about a year or so and I’m so glad I did. Forgot alot of stuff that happened so it’s such a fun watch again.
The Shield is basically a modern successor to Hill Street Blues which was the number 1 greatest cop drama and perhaps the greatest tv drama ever! Homicide Life on the street is right after it and also was an influence on this series.
@@edwardfetner2513 That's true. I would also highly recommend you check out Hill Street Blues which was definitely what paved the way for Homicide, The Shield etc to even get on the air and created the whole multiple running storylines in a tv crime drama.
I have watched breaking bad, Sopranos, GOT amongst others. I am even in the process of watching the Wire as all I ever hear is how great that show is but I keep coming back to the Shield. The first episode is hard hitting and dedicates how the show is going to play out. Love love love it.
The Wire ihas a much bigger focus than just being a police show. Both shows are fantastic but for different reasons. I don't feel like its a competition, I enjoy both shows.
The shield was literally based off rampart scandal was going to be called that but they asked them not to so so they didn't it literally had actual cops who trained them in scenes how to realistically kick a door down like a cop would expecting to be shot at the shield was way more than a cop show it blurs the line of humanity what you'd do when greed drives you way more than a cop show
@@thenightstalker6165 I guess what I’m trying to say is that when you watch The Wire, you start to take in the atmosphere of Baltimore, and see the world through the eyes of not just cops, but also the government, the school system, and the media.
@@reboundrides8132 oh thats different. i meant like "background atmospheric music" like here. The Shield had amazing soundtrack moments like Disarm and Nutshell

I'm writing a cop show pilot where Reed Diamond, Hank from Breaking Bad, and Herc from The Wire all team up and get absolutely nothing done, and still get promoted, 3 Humpty Dumpty's.
This show thought it was so hard-hitting and clever, and intense, and action packed, and super manly, and urban, street, and modern. It's just a melodrama for people who found The Wire boring but CSI too soft.

There is no Sons of Anarchy or Mayans MC without The Shield
Lmao fr. The ending hooks the fuck outta you
Silly rogue cop gtf
Silly rogue cop show? Wtf?
Still one of the best shows ever made and that intro hooks you from the start
There is no Sons of Anarchy or Mayans MC without The Shield
STRIKE TEAM BABY
I feel sorry for people that didn't get to experience The Shield. They have no clue.
I’m so glad I did first view without knowing nothing was crazy man.
Fuck ol Yeller. I cried when.... the grenade
The first season where everything was bright.
Al Capone with a badge.
I feel spoilt having recently seen this all the way through. A staggering achievement.

STRIKE TEAM 4EVER

LAPD: We’re making Farmington safer for everyone.
also LAPD: Rubber bullets go brrrrrrrr!
I’ve been watching clips of this show for the past week. Guess I should break down and commit to watching the series for the first time. 😄
AGENTS OF THE SHIELD

This is great. When they were running, the guys were instructed NOT to pass Michael.
STRIKE TEAM BABY!!!!
The best pilote ever 🤩🤩🤩
From pilot until finale the show doesn't let up or disappoint, one of the best shows ever.
Definitely my favorite pilot of any show I've seen besides Breaking Bad's pilot. Southland had a great pilot too.
Alongside The Wire and The Sopranos also Oz
@@heavingearth6727 also breaking bad pilot was good

Ooooooh now that’s interesting.
NYPD Blue also I put up there with the best
Homicide is amazing, I would say is the most similar to The Shield with all of its running storylines

I’m watching this for the first time and THIS IS BETTER THAN law and order
the most Underrated show ever!
The smile of vic mackey...
No need for evidence bag. haha
Better than the actual LAPD

I read somewhere that the inspiration was majorly from training day
This used to be my show !
Probably my favorite show of all time!
The best cop show way better than the wire idc what you think
The Wire ihas a much bigger focus than just being a police show. Both shows are fantastic but for different reasons. I don't feel like its a competition, I enjoy both shows.
I don’t think that’s a fair comparison. The Wire has much more than just the cop aspect. The Shield just has more adrenaline.

i am so so so so happy they stopped using music during scenes
Me too. They don’t need it.
Totally agree but I like how it works in this scene. Though in other scenes it doesn’t work well either.
Some scenes are amazing dude, the scene where Lem goes on the run with smashing pumpkins playing is like Emmy quality tv

I Had A Feeling Vic Was Going For A Gut Punch.
The best history in the world
Vic Mackey vs Frank Tenpenny
Think Tenpenny and co were inspired by The Shield?
Mackey strikes me as more ambiguous than Tenpenny really.
What about Vic Mackey vs Hank Voight?
