    Agree, the braised duck rice is good and cheap. Malay stalls there very good too. The curry rice stall ex and so so, tried that before. It’s business is good as it’s the only mixed rice stall there that seems decent enough. The famous Yong Tau Foo stall has gone down in standard.

    Piggy Puggy The Hawker Voyeur . Noodles and duck rice that roast chicken looked yummy as well as the pick and mix stall not much longer till I get to there. I remember the Police in Khaki old left over British tropical dress when Officers wore Sam Browne belts and other ranks webbing belts blanco'd for ceremonial or guard duties (HK was similar)

      Actually.. I think the police have recently adopted shorts again.. like those US bike and street patrol units. Shorts and polo T. But the a British Khaki ones with silver buttons were still way cooler 😎

      @@Piggypuggy Yes it had that old colonial tropical look. If I remember my history the shorts, tunic and beret were adopted by SQ police because they recruited a lot of ex Gurka's into the police after they were demobed a couple of years after the war. I think that was how the story went. Not sure of the full details and they changed to the blue in early 70's

    I often eat here because I would walk from my place on Depot Road via Gillman Barracks, then southwards to Labrador Park, skirt along the coast, and end up here. I really like the food stalls here, especially the old school Nasi Padang stalls.

    Another underrated FC! Anyway have been planning a trip to this FC again (last visit was sometime in year 2019 I think) after reading a recent review from a famous food blogger of the Duck Noodles from Shi Ji .... and your video made me hungry 1st thing in the morning. The duck rice stall is always my default to-go whenever I'm around the area .... one of the rare places where its still below $4 and old-school/authentic braised duck

      Ya know I was alllp hungry again when editing the video 😂😅. I don't know if the food speaks for itself or I just managed to make it look damn yummy 😂. I went once during covid.. aiyo.. it's damn sad.. 🙁 all the hawkers sitting and waiting.. I hope they bounce back quickly

      Yam rice.. we call it Orr Png. It's taro cooked with rice to give it a savoury aromatic rice. Traditional braised duck rice stalls would have it. But it's becoming less common these days maybe coz of the extra work behind it

    I know this place, beside the bus interchange, right? There is an uncle selling fruit near the pedestrian bridge? I found this place accidentally after I couldn't decide what to eat at VivoCity, lol.
    21:57 look delicious, perfect with sugarcane juice. It's balance the savoury of the meat when meeting the sweet!

    The sugarcane drink stall prices are so cheap, if I go chinatown hawker buy, it’s almost $2 for the same cup size

      Yes.that Hokkien Mee has been there forever and ever.. but standards have dropped. It used to be the place to go for hokkien Mee.. having said that.. it still draws quite a line. Thai food.. I haven't seen it this time round

    what is assam? assam is tamarind. Assam fish is a malay dish made with red chilli paste diluted with tamarind juice. so the taste is spicy and sour. traditionally catfish are used.

    My office is just opposite this hawker. The braise duck rice stall uncle is very rude and inflexible. He often quarrel with customers. When customer ask for extra Chilli or alittle more sauce, he will start to make noise and talk sarcastic to customers but he is very polite and nice to young ladies...(chee ko pek)

      Yah laa.. best to be on.. I just someone's feel bad that they have to be so suffocated inside such high heat and humid environment.. easily 36 degrees and above. And maybe within thei4 own area.. it won't affect the food right? But I also know the ripple effect the min you say no need wear.. all will blatantly just abuse it

    I don't eat pork so the Halal sections of food courts in Singapore is super useful.
    Often a dish can be made with Pork lard even if it's not a pork dish, so I always look for the halal certificate.

      This is one thing I'm also not sure about. Is it mandatory to have the halal sicker? Coz I see many Malay stalls without the display too.. so I also asked if a dish doesn't include pork at all.. eg. Chicken curry noodles..would it be considered Halal. I tried a Maggie goreng fried chicken during my visit there.. which I'll release soon.
      This hawker centre has a complete section of Malay food stalls which is perfect for halal dinners 😋👍

      @@Piggypuggy Also, the utensils are not mixed. There are cleaning carts for Halal vs non Halal plates. It is respected by the people of the importance all the way to the utensils used not to be mixed up during cleaning time also not just food prep.

    Update Post Renovation - seems that the 1 man show wanton mee dude is retired 🥲 ... bought his wanton mee a few times & prefer his. Also Shi Ji no longer sells duck noodle (dont know why also) .... you can go revisit again soon?

      @@Piggypuggy 🤣 YES YES YES although my mom will go for Fish and Fish Soups or Herbal Soups, in Philippines we don't get common food like Ducks & Frogs. Most of their foods are grilled or deep fried. Street foods can cause food poisoning (happened to me)
      What I hope to get my hands .. er eh 😂 more like to get my mouth and teeth onto are "Roast Duck, Braised Duck, Kway Chap minus the Tau Pok (too oily), Beef Noodles Soup, Mutton Soups can be Chinese style or halal style, & Spring onions ginger Frogs".
      I think I might also go for mutton curry / rendang with a little bit of nasi briyani because I can't really eat spicy foods even though I missed it.
      Above are the 5 top foods I really want to put into my stomach now 😂😂😂
      Maybe when I return in July I can follow you around Hawker Centres and be your helpful assistant 😜😀
