check out Chuck Ragan, William Elliot Whitmore, Tim Barry. They aren't quite folk "punk" but they definitiely put ALOT of heart into their music and it is kickass.
I agree with for the most part, but I have get that feeling that folk punk is gaining some momentum. What with Wingnut Dishwasher's Union and Defiance, Ohio and other such bands that seem to be catching on... maybe this is just an optimistic view. I've also recently started a folk punk band with my friends called TEAMWORK.
@CloudMeetsSky ik dude, its not like they are ever going to sell out er anything, its better to have ppl hear their music, opposed to them playing to no one..
@ChasefreedomMusic It doesn't take much to be in any other kind of band either. You can be in a country, rock, or rap group that plays shitty music, being a musician isn't about success, its about getting the music across to people.
punk does not mean overdriven guitar, distortion, and violence. it's a way of thinking, and you can do it with an acoustic guitar, a mandolin and a fiddle
folkpunk will never be huge. there may be alot of people who listen to it. but i've never been to a "fokpunk" show that had more than maybe 50 people. besides a festival of course.
i've enjoyed this band the few times i've seen them. i still want to punch the guitar playing in the face. i spent 20 bucks on a shirt and a cd. he sold it to me and gave me the dirtiest look. he was pissed off that i was dance and chugging beers during his set. way to prove straightedge folk can't have fun. they're violin players awesome though! sweet as a pea!
Naw, I'm gonna have to say the inverse of that statement. Hippies did it first, and with way more success. But by no means am I degrading punk. Something that puts out a band like Crass, is all right with me.
@anarchistcommunity Actually I play with punks almost every night, fun guys to hang with but shitty music. I dosent take much skill to be in a punk band
indie folk acoustic but not punk or oi. when i personally think of punk i think of hardcore punk like INFEST or WARKRIME and shit thats loud fast and hardcore but i mean what ever this shits just like defiance ohio and against me i don't know anybody who can consider this punk music. giving books to prisoners is a kind hippie folk thing to do. they call punks punks for a reason cuz they are punks ! get it? PUNK!
all i'm saying is if i where to sum up punk for somebody who has never heard of it i would not include this band. "punk is a way of thinking." also to be included "a way of life." BUT IN THE END: what is punk to you i guess definitely isn't punk to me, i'm sorry i don't think this is punk at all but nonetheless this is what makes us all punks.
WoW... This is horrible!! OK CHILDREN LETS ALL SING ALONG!! I hope this guy guys to my sons second grade so all the children can ALL SING ALONG!! KOOL-AID ANYONE?haha What a joke.
This band is optimistic.
They keep my hope for humanity burning. =]
Thanks for posting this!
I hope you’re well, thirteen years after posting this comment 🖤🏴
"Punk rock music saved my life, I can sing it honestly." That just about sums it up.
Punk is a mindset! Punk is home, and punk is a rebel love story!
This is too awesome. I wish I were in the crowd.
Up the punks!
I love ghost mice.
Everyone back up vegaspunkrock is the master of what is punk and what isn't.

I was soooo hoping for a flease and lice cover here... But apparently. Still, up the punks!

@shouldofstedin Just because a band is known by people who you don't think appreciate it as much as you doesn't mean its punishment to the band.

Why even bother arguing about terminology?

Haha I can believe that! I still love this band although the lead singer wouldn't like me due to my non straightedgeness.
hipsters..all of you.
Quite being a hipster. Thats how it works, you go from not being known to known get over it.

What are you some pretentious hipster or something? OH NO the band I knew before other people is getting more popular.
