Excited to see the new direction by Dr. Kang to better center Asian voices into the policy conversation. The Mahbubani debate with Schell was a ringing announcement that helped challenge a narrowing understanding of China, including by those who’ve not updated their knowledge for decades like the otherwise esteemed Schell.
It is about time to have an Asian to be the President of the Asia Society, especially having someone as knowledgeable and experienced as Dr. Kang. As an Asian, we are tired of having American or European “Asian” or China scholars like Schell lecture us about Asia or China.
