Not a Sixers fan but tons of respect to Maxey. Sixers players are always making excuses and tossing blame to others but I’ve never seen Maxey do that. People are focusing a little too much on stats for that MIP award, Maxey’s development as a leader has been huge. Well deserved.
knicks fan here. maxey is fantastic and i liked his attitude after the 2nd game ending. another thing is embiid should get a standing ovation during his first free throws of game 3. he is going through so much medically, he probably shouldn't be on the court. Have real respect of him as an opponent. felt the need to say this cuz i think a lot of knicks fans seem like psychos about their team but there are others (and i hope im one of those people) who are not like that lol

Watched the TNT summary of the Mavs Clips. It's like they only watch the highlights and then just say stuff that was not part of the actual game and then they repeat themselves for 20 minutes. The defense last night was the story. Both teams. It was awesome and they didn't say S about it. Thank you JJ for being a pro

Luka and Ky have played amazing defense which caused clippers to improvise a lot and switch from the game plan. It was beautiful to watch and I hope they can keep that defensive effort throughout the playoffs. Kawhi will get better so next two games in Dallas should be very entertaining.
Lol the entire gameplan switched when zubac got into foul trouble in the first 50 seconds. Should’ve just brought kawhi off the bench bc that messed the whole flow of the game, I get why tho bc he needs his reps.

Pheonix has no shot. They held Ant to 15, KAT in foul trouble to 12, and they actually managed to out rebound the Wolves. Still lost by 15 and it wasn’t really ever close starting in the 3rd quarter.

look, i am rooting for the mavs but it worries me and i think its valid to think the clippers will win, have you seen how bad the role players are playing for the mavs? they cant hit 3s, cant do post, even luka is missing alot of looks that he usually makes 9/10 times, its worriesome tbh, i want the mavs to win but if this dont change i can see the clippers winning, and next round will be even harder

Bucks players gotta hit their shots. Dame when he isn’t doubled, has been as good as you get. For my money, his play has been on the level of Jokic and Luka thus far in the playoffs. And Dame doesn’t turn the ball over when the double comes at all but the rest of the team does struggle to find the open man and the amount of open shots they miss is insane.
Middleton has look amazing from mid-range, Brook was amazing the first half but they gotta make more shots as a team. Malik Beasley had a monster start to the season this year. He is nowhere to be found right now. AJ Green, arguably the best pure shooter in this team, has missed a lot of wide open shots.
The spacing Dame has created due to the Pacers constantly doubling him has opened up the team so much. In terms of creation of quality shots due to the defensive attention you get, only Jokic has gotten his teammates better shots than Dame these playoffs. You have to make these count.
And the defense yesterday was atrocious. Doc called his timeouts too early in the first I believe. Pacers looked unstoppable at the end of the first half, Doc should have saved to timeout for that because a timeout there could have gotten you to adjust and make stops against the Pacers. You could have been up by 4-5 points going into the half that way.
Dame clearly gassed out. I understand how dysfunctional the offense is without him along with Giannis not being there to pick up the slack, but you gotta rest him to keep him ready for the 2nd half, especially the 4th quarter. Dame has to touch the ball in every offensive possession, so he’s going to get tired over the course of a game a lot quicker than some other players.
The Bucks have to play their best game next game. Pacers aren’t going to lose back to back home games when Giannis isn’t playing. And Giannis will be forced to comeback early for game 4 if you lose game 3. You need to buy him as much time as you can to get him healthy for the rest of the playoffs. I’m expecting next game to be the best game of this series
There is a fine line of letting players play physically. How about we stop calling fouls for harden when he just falls after a shot for no reason

I find it ironic that the NBA fine players for blasting refs, then the NBA comes out with a 2 minute report, blasting the same refs.

Clippers are the only team beaides the Lakers/pelicans that actually match up well with Dallas. Outside of Denver just being the best team, i dont see sny team beating dallas if not the clippers. I think Dallas can give the nuggets a run for their money as well

Kris Middleton and Pascal Siacam are so underrated.
I don't have a horse in this but the 76ers had a very questionable successful challenge on a Lowry foul when the Knicks had the lead, and Maxey also clearly shoved Hart to get open in the inbound pass. Embiid also had his usual favorable calls and he wasn't good enough in the ft line. When a game is so poorly managed and refereed affecting both teams, it's hard to say the 76ers got screwed

I wouldn't say it doesn't mean they don't have a shot just makes it more unlikely if you look at statistics. You got to win 4/5 if you lose the first 2. You lose game 3 and you got to win 4 in a row. That's why you never want to go down 2-0 or 3-0. A team has come back from 2-0 8.7% of the time. It's definitely not over but it's much harder. I also look at it as home court advantage. A team that has home court usually is the better team although in the playoffs, that isn't always the case nor does it always matter. That's why fans say that. At least that's why I would say it. It's never over till it is but yeah. 2-0 is not easy to come back from.
If you go down 0-2, you statistically are screwed. You'll have a 7% chance to advance.

The reason why the team down 0-2 has only come back 8.7% of the time is because there are a lot of series that are just a beatdown where the higher seed goes up 2-0 and finishes with a sweep or something. Like if it’s the 2017 Warriors going up 2-0 against the Pelicans, obviously the Pelicans are about to get thrashed.
If we looked at 2-0 leads among teams that are similarly seeded or have similar odds to win the series, you’d find that a 2-0 lead probably only gives you like a 65% chance to win the series.
It’s not just, “oh they’re up 2-0 that means they have a 91.3% chance to win” or whatever; you have to look at the actual teams you’re talking about. Like Kings-Warriors 2023, Mavs-Suns 2022, Clippers-Mavs 2021, Bucks-Suns 2021, Clippers-Jazz 2021, Bucks-Nets 2021, Raptors-Bucks 2019, etc. these were all fairly evenly matched series where the team down 2-0 still probably had a 40-45% chance to win the series.
I’d also argue that in recent years 2-0 comebacks have been more common

Wow jj finally talking about the small market team that's been at the top of the league all year. Even tho he started the season by saying he was focusing on the small market teams. JJ is one of my favorite analyst but he's no better than any other when it comes to ignoring small market teams. Even when he "makes it his mission" to cover them more.
The Gobert hate is unjustifiable.
Lifelong Wolves fan here, and I didn't like the trade at first in the least. But if you've played or watched basketball for years, there's things he does that are almost completely unquantifiable but relevant. He tips balls in loose ball situations which keep them alive and help us regain possession, he contests every shot in his area even if he gets dunked on and averaged only 2.9 fouls a game during the regular season, he never stops moving and adjusting which chews up open floor spacing, he played in 76 games, etc. Sure, he's on a great team which makes any player better. He's the real deal, and I think all the hate is petty and unfounded.

3 things:
As a Knicks fan, Maxey and Embiid are crazy good players man. Much respect to both of them (even if Joel flopping forsure and is being a little pushy here and there). Still have a lot appreciation for them as opponent (much moreso than CLE or MIA who we played last year)
2)There very well could have been a foul on Brunson or Hart on that last play, but aint no way that contact Maxey had against pushing off Hart was "incidental" lol, that was also a foul and that 2 minute report is just an apology since all the stars complained about officiating
3) Nurse did not call that 1st timeout. The only people who think he did are using twitter screenshots and not watching the video, he put his hands down before calling anything. He definitely called the 2nd, but it was right as Maxey was losing possession (timeouts count when they're granted, not the instant Nurse puts his hands up). Also Joel straight-up lying in the press conference saying him and another player was calling TImeout when Maxey had the ball.
But I will say, the refs overall need to be much much better league-wide, its been horrendous offseason. Even if I disagree about this specific ending, doesn't mean I dont think changes should be made

Speaking of physicality, how come they are not blowing the whistle during extra contact in rebounding, positioning, and defending, but at the same time, blowing the whistle on Harden contorting his body in midair (he had two of those in G2) and hitting the defender with his scoop shot to get to the line? Then when Luka got slapped in the arm for a layup (he was able to power thru to make the shot) there was no call, and when he complained they t-ed him up?

The Suns had no offense in that 4th quarter. They had KD and Booker on the floor and neither of them wanted the smoke - they dished it into Eubanks for misses twice... it was so weird. I hear what you're saying about composition but I've also watched KD average > 25 pts a night in the playoffs for decades and this series he just doesn't look the same.

JJ a needs to throw some advanced stats at why/whether the Timberwolves are better than they were last year and a huge threat to dethrone my favorite team, the Denver Nuggets. Minnesota looks pretty solid compared with Denver.
I think we're (Timberwolves fan) the team with the best chance to beat you guys. The defense comes down to spacing, length which translates into shot contention, and effort. I think the most underrated aspect are the tips and scrambles. Gobert and Anderson are amazing players for game changing actions which go mostly unquantifiable like tipped balls to keep them alive during rebounds and loose balls. Weird to say but I think Jamal Murray is the Nuggets x-factor, not only because he can go off and maestro a game but he's also influential after whistles with the refs...pointing for the Nuggets possession, flailing on loose balls (which can become fouls), etc. If the calls go his way it makes a monumental difference.

JJ is entitled to his vote and I respect it but I disagree with it in terms of the most improved. He highlights the ways in which White improved and then stated how Maxey's efficiency decreased.. yet votes Maxey.. a little strange if u ask me. Not too mention Maxey's increase in output was largely expected this year. Definitely not who I would vote for but JJ is allowed his opinion.
The "Rudy Gobert can be played off the court by small ball" narrative has always been silly. Gobert wasn't the problem when that happened to Utah; the Jazz had complete garbage for perimeter defense. The Wolves have McDaniels, Alexander-Walker and even Anthony Edwards who are all much better defenders than what those Jazz teams had. It's showing in this series.

If you are too strong, you are penalised. If you haven't been strong enough, you are penalised, too. Seems very random. There are rules in basketball, so why not just follow them...
The "refs shouldn't dictate the end of games" take being used to jusrify no calls and players fouling is as ridiculous as it is ironic. Refs aren't dictating the game by calling those fouls, the PLAYERS are by fouling when they shouldn't. Refs decide the end of games when, like on Monday, they don't call the things they should
I meam Id agree more if refs dont often have a very loose whistle in general. Ignoring the ending of that game for a moment, the refs were calling phantom fouls for Embiid and missing calls on Hart, Brunson, and even Maxey. Then that overturned call made no sense
I'd approve of your take more if these refs showed they were capable of getting calls right 95% of the time, but they most certainly aren't so its genuinely better to be without them

Game 1 Mavs struggle but it wans't the Clippers defense at all it was just a bad shooting game, Game 2 Clippers struggle and it was all Mavs defense it wans't a Clippers bad game.

Well, they shot 42% from the field (bellow they season avg 48%) and 42% from 3 (above they season avg 36%) so please reduce yourselfs to your ignorance and don't talk just to talk! And media needs to start watching the games instead of watching the highlights....
Also Clippers played an exelente Game 1 biggest lead 29, second quarter Mavs came back because the lead was so big and any normal person could see that Clippers took they foot out of the gas and burn the clock starting they offense when there was 6 secs left on the clock (Mavs with 20+ FTA)! Mavs with a more or less season avg shooting night and Clippers with the worse shooting % of the season still manage to lose only by 3!
Clippers have a better and deeper team if you don't think so, well, you are dead wrong! Sure I'm talking as a Clippers fan but I have a brain and I know how to separate things!
