I will not defile this beautiful rendition, with my very insufficient words for this masterpiece. This is the most beautiful thing I have ever heard. July 4, 2021 , and the tears are still flowing.
This is the best version of Mary, Did You Know I have ever heard by my dear friend, Kathy Mattea. She is as beautiful as her voice...she knows the hand of God....
Totally agree. Hers was the first version I ever heard; first time I came across the song. Too many well sung version are too much about the performance and the singer. With Kathy it is the story, the emotion.
Carol Shea When you have time watch this video of Kathy. It’s 28:11 long. The stories she tells are wonderful and gives great insight as to her spirit and wonderfullness. czcams.com/video/uv3c2VA5gB8/video.html
I love this song by Kathy. I usually cry when I hear it. This year a great wave of sadness came over me as I thought of all the children who have passed or been separated from their parents by the ruler of a country that simply doesn't care.
I heard this song while riding in my car Christmas Shopping. It overwhelmed me so, I drove to the Baptist Book Store to buy a copy...While describing the song, I became so emotional, I started to cry while saying the words. Something happened in that store..others began to shed tears and we just stood there in silence....That year, I gave that cd to people at drive thru windows, waitresses, teachers, family and friends. It was truly a gift of PEACE given into our city that year...Thank you Mark Lowry...Carol Moore------Loganville, Ga. CAN YOU IMAGINE KISSING GOD
I will always thank Kathy for my love of this song and I do like to still hear her version from time to time. With that said, Cee-Lo Green's version will never be touched and there isn't anyone besides God that will change my mind on that.
This is one of the most powerful songs written about the birth of Jesus. As a vocalist who sings it, I get so caught up, emotionally, that I find it difficult to sing without crying tears of gratitude for what Jesus did for all mankind. Kathy does a beautiful job!!
This was the first version of this song that I ever heard, many years ago, and it's still my favorite rendition. In fact, the album that this song is from, "Good News", is probably one of the best Christmas albums ever recorded. The album doesn't contain a single throwaway cover of songs like "Winter Wonderland" or "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree". Every song is pretty much non-traditional with heavy emphasis on the true meaning of Christmas. If you liked Kathy's rendition of "Mary Did You Know", I highly recommended picking up a copy of "Good News", just to take a break from "Jingle Bells".
I was going to post that her version was the first I heard, too, and have been spoiled so by her great vocal that I don't care for many others. Her voice is so rich without doing much but just singing the lyrics.
This was my Mommie's favorite Christmas song. She would sing it every year. She was a beautiful soprano. She fought stomach cancer for 2 years. Last Christmas she was too weak to sing it. So we played it for her in the hospital. My Mommie is with Mary's baby now. I will never hear her sing this carol again. My first Christmas without her. I miss you Mommie
I am sorry to hear. She is a better place now. I lost my grandfather last January and his mother (my great-grandmother) passed away this past October. We will see them again some day.
I've rediscovered this song by PTX but the very first time I ever heard it was this version by Kathy and I couldn't stop the tears. Still affects me that way
This isn’t a Christmas song for me. It’s the mystery of the beauty of Christ and the unique mixture of Mary’s joy and suffering. Kissed the face of God…Mary and Joseph were chosen to do that. I’m in awe of the thought.
I've just listened to about five or six different versions of this song, and this one has utterly stopped me in my tracks. This is perfection. It's so beautifully done it's almost shocking, yet gently so. It's almost like this is the way it was meant to be performed.
This song always moves me. I listen to this CD all year long, too, and I love to sing this one. I hardly ever get very far, though, before not being able to sing from crying, LOL! Those little "earthquakes of the soul" can hit you real quick!
This is the BEST version of this song,She did it before everyone else. terrific live ,I remember seeing her about 15 years ago when she did this w/ the Knoxville Orchestra.
You can her hear sing it again. There was a reason why this song was so important to her. Going to heaven doesn't mean about how you treated your fellow man, it's about how you dealt with God, specifically about God incarnated: Jesus Christ. Go to Him, confess to Him, cry to Him. He will wrap His arms around you, keep you, comfort you, and protect you.
There are many Songs About Jesus that are beautiful. “Oh Holy Night,” “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” among them. These songs all tell us what Christmas is really all about. We tend to forget that Christmas is Jesus’ Birthday and everything that means. Kathy Mattea’s version of “Mary did you know” is one of the songs that celebrates Christmas’ meaning but it does so by shifting focus to Jesus’s mother. Mary knew her son was special. The Archangel Gabriel told her so, as did her cousin Elizabeth. Jesus performed His first miracle when He changed water into wine at the wedding feast, but He did so at His Mother’s request. She KNEW her son was special. But did she really know? Did she truly understand? This song is about Jesus’ mother, it’s about Mary. And it touches you in a way few others can. The only other song, that I know of, that touches you this way is Trisha Yearwood’s “It wasn’t his child.” That song by Trisha focuses on Jesus’ Father Joesph. It too is hauntingly beautiful.
I can't sing a bit, only play the guitar a little bit, but this is my favorite modern Christmas song and this is my favorite version! I get chills and tears from the words. Thanks for posting.
Thank you so much for taking the time to send such a loving comment. I still ache for her greatly. Never felt so alone in the flesh. But my spirit rejoices that she is free from pain and in the arms of Our Father. And when I see her I hope she greets me with this song. God bless you and yours
Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs, bestowing life. Glory to Jesus Christ forever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Kathy, heard you on the radio singing this song this evening while driving around looking at Christmas lights. Can't begin to tell you how nice it was to hear your voice again! Beautiful song and this version is so moving and the very best!
In my opinion, Mattea's rendition is by far THE best. Other popular recordings of this beautiful spiritual song of the season are over produced and melodramatic betraying the wonder of its message.
Kathy Mattea is one of my favorite female singers and listening to this song explains why very well...what a beautiful song, beautiful message and beautiful lady.
"... And when you kiss your little baby, you kiss the face of God." Oooooh myyyyyyy, what a verse.
I know! It gets me every time!
My favorite version...she sings it with such passion
I get chills just by hearing this song Kathy does a beautiful job.
My very favorite Kathy song!
The greatest version of this song and the only one i want to hear.

The writers of the song have produced a miracle in music, but Kathy Mattea is truly it's messenger.
AMEN!!!

Greet your friend Kathy for me. Tell her I just love her version of this song. I have her “Good News” album and play it all year long.
Have you listened to Sanam's rendition of the same song? That is the best of all.

I have grown to love this song and it sends a message of truth, through the love of Jesus to all of us.
Kathy, God made this song for you to sing to us. God Bless!
definitely. she is way better than pentatonix.
Amen
@@hollymarith3786 Pentatonix is more like a choir, Kathy is a Solo Artist who does this song incredibly well

Her voice is so angelic and fitting for this song. Praise God for the child Mary delivered! Merry CHRISTmas to everyone!
Beautiful voice. Merry Christmas 2020

This is one of the most powerful songs written about the birth of Jesus. As a vocalist who sings it, I get so caught up, emotionally, that I find it difficult to sing without crying tears of gratitude for what Jesus did for all mankind. Kathy does a beautiful job!!
It moves me the same way when playing the fretless bass parts that swell like emotions.
i cant get through it either

NO ONE sings this song like Kathy Mattea. Not Kenny Rogers, not Clay Aiken... NO ONE. Simply beautiful.
When i was younger my parents had a tape with this song on it. I would listen to it so much my Mom was afraid I would wear out the tape.
I am sorry to hear. She is a better place now. I lost my grandfather last January and his mother (my great-grandmother) passed away this past October. We will see them again some day.

Yes SarunaAlbahr, Mary knew a lot of things but she kept all this in her heart.
My wife and I both agree the song sounds best when song by a woman

Kathy Mattea is beautiful,
I believe Mary did know, but this song is great, and asking of she did know is an act of faith in itself. praise the Lord Jesus in all that you do!
Jesus is the reason for the season. Merry Christmas to all. Our Redeemer is alive.
