It literally felt like a personal attack when you said 'Don't rewrite notes because you're just copying the text book and adding pretty titles' đđ... time to change my revision method...
I felt the same when j switched it up
Doing that is not actually a bad thing... You can make notes and then learn off these notes by covering them and trying to blurt as much as you can remember. Re-writing in that way, for me at least, is effective but it's different for everyone.
samee
@@tahmidhossan9757 yeah, Iâve been revising with that method since year 7 and Iâm hesitant on whether I should change my method of revision because in my opinion, I donât see me being able to learn topics by not writing stuff down, thatâs why I donât like doing stuff like quizlet because I donât feel productive/ I donât actually feel like Iâm learning when what Iâm doing is not in physical form
@@SparkMediaProduction I'm in Year 13, and I've found that I learn similarly to you (need notes to do well). I made comprehensive notes at GCSE (for triple science and comp sci at least) using a combination of the CGP guides, kerboodle textbooks and ABOVE ALL the specification. If you want to avoid the 'copying the textbook', I suggest keeping a printout of the spec or always pulling it up when making notes - it lets you know exactly what the textbooks may have missed or more likely the unnecessary details it includes. Keep in mind this 'unnecessary stuff' is what fills a surprising amount of the kerboodle textbook. Tbh, I disagree with the idea that you shouldn't make personal notes - be realistic, most of us in class are half taking in concepts - we spend most of the time scribbling down stuff rather than understanding it. Those notes you take in class will mean little to you even if you stare at them at home - further research is needed to make it sink in unless your teachers are exceptional or you are a genius. Still, taking the time to tune your class notes according to the spec might be a better compromise if you don't like the idea of starting from scratch.
For context, I got straight 8's and 9's at GCSE, with 9's in all the sciences, and I'm predicted 3 A*s at A level (Maths chem bio).
Edit: Make sure you hand write ALL your notes - it is scientifically proven that hand written notes are more effective for long term memory and exam performance.

That last part made me feel so relieved. I only ever get maths but not the other subjects that I'm doing (a levels, maths bio and chem). Ask others to quiz and just make sure for the exam you are prepared as u can be. Just try your best. Another tip especially for essay subjects (English) itâs always good to make it seem like you know what your saying so donât leave a question blank EVER and a bit of guessing/ waffling wonât go a miss if you are unsure. Hope that helped, good luck.
so basically effective revision is consistently testing yourself and developing your knowledge when you get things wrong until you get it right

London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. At its centre stand the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic âBig Benâ clock tower and Westminster Abbey, site of British monarch coronations. Across the Thames River, the London Eye observation wheel provides panoramic views of the South Bank cultural complex, and the entire city.

Udoka, I would disagree about not making extra notes. There's a lot more information you can find in CGP books, revision guides, Bitesize etc. I would only say oversimplify as much as possible and spend as little time on them but cover the content properly. Don't waste precious time making them look aesthetic because at the end of the day, it doesn't matter as long as they're effective. After that, usually you should move on to practice papers and just understand how to apply the topic.
I completely agree, notes work best for me.
Exactly! After making these notes, you can recall them by covering them and blurting as much as you can remember.
@@tahmidhossan9757 I don't personally use blurting but different techniques work for different people.
I absolutely second this, I'm gonna paste an earlier comment of mine for any Y10's/11's/12's debating whether they should make extra notes.
I'm in Year 13, and I've found that I need notes to do well. Keep in mind this 'unnecessary stuff' is what fills a surprising amount of the Kerboodle textbook - there is no harm in learning it but it does make note making more tedious and undesirable in general.
I just started school and iâm really studying , studying harder than iâve every studied before.
Itâs actually rewarding, which surprised me.
It feels good to be doing hard work.
and then when I go back on past exercises, they become easy which surprised me a lot more.
especially in maths.
:D
I summarise my lessons on a sort of Queue card, and it helps me learn.
Because the things I write in my notebook at school is a lot and I need to break it down to understand it and learn it
youâre a lifesaver!! :( i wish schools taught us effective revision methods like this.. also this video is edited so well i enjoyed watching it đđ
Iâm also sitting mocks in January. I do believe that everyone has their own way of revisions. If it works for you, then itâs not âwrongâ. Personally, I take notes to recap the topic, then I do Seneca to recap further, before testing the knowledge with Flashcards and past paper questions. That works for me, and everyone has their own way.
I got mostly 9s in my GCSEs and only started proper revision a few days before each exam, all you have to do is pay attention in class and do lots of practice questions. If you want to do well in English, studying some philosophy wouldnât hurt đ
yeah totally agree with this
what philosophy are you talking about because iâm struggling with english atm

Nice to see small youtubers like us helping young people get through school and rough times. As someone who made the mistake of not studying enough for mocks, means allot your helping the youth.
As someone who is now in a level and is doing criminology, knowing how to answer the history questions really help
Knowing the differences between describing, explaining, evaluating and analysing is the difference between full marks and no marks
It makes it easier in the beginning so thereâs less stress on you
Wow, great video. Reminded me a lot of when I did the Irish equivalent of the GSCEs. You have a bright future if you keep up this good work!
This really motivated me to stop being lazy now - Iâm also in y11 about to do mocks soon so tysmâŒïžâ„ïž

Love the video thank you for your tips. Been struggling to find the motivation to start to revise properly and all the youtube videos I had previously watched were from uni students but watching a video on someone taking their GSCEs and also being in the UK really did help me to feel more motivated to start to revise properly. Fingers crossed i can hold onto this feeling for a bit more than 2 hours lol :-)
One more thing, revision sessions! My school offered after school sessions for nearly every subject and they are well worth going to and quite enjoyable. Even the most up tight teachers were up for a joke because they can rely on everyone to concentrate and theres a mutual understanding that people are there of their own choice
Hey Udoka! Iâm in Y11 and currently revising for my mocks as well, stumbled across your channel and its some really cool stuff, wishing you the best of luck :)

Bruhhh- it's the way that I was literally re-reading and highlighting notes for business studies revision today
This guy is going to have a very successful future. His intelligence and self-discipline at 16 is already leagues ahead of my adult colleagues and employees.
Listening helps me so much. When I just read off a page I canât remember at all, but being told it, everything just sinks in. When I learn something I either ask my teacher to explain it to me like a story, or my friends, or I even record myself doing a storytelling of the information. I did that for my biology mock, I remembered everything. When I got into that exam hall, all the questions were things I had revised and knew like the back of my hand.
Everyone has different learning methods. So if you struggle with reading-learning, you should definitely try other formats.

For now just revise what youâve learnt on your current day in school and take it easy
Then do 10 mins revision daily. Once you get used to that take it up to 20, the 30 and before you know it youâll be revising for an hour daily like itâs nothing. Start off slow but be consistent, make it a habit.
