This guy is a genius. He's saying everything that should be said to beginner golfers but people won't accept becuase it's not cool in front of your mates/playing partners. Go out on your own for a few rounds and stick to it and watch your shots reduce dramatically. This playa actually got his first Par 4 birdie (normal GIR) yesterday using this system but hit the drive and the 2nd shot so well and 1 putted from 10-12 yards. Was absolutely amazed....

This playa finally broke 90 twice this year. Averaged just over 100 last year. The biggest difference? I can hit a 150yd punch shot with a 6 iron that stays in play always. I use that shot religiously. I get the ball inside 100 and then play for a 3 from that spot. It’s not glamorous but my handicap dropped 8 strokes this year so it’s working.

👏 I found I could do the same while trying to wrap up my round at (past) sunset. Just letting the ball stay in front so I could find it in the dark. Played the last 2 holes 1-2 shots better than I normally would.
So important for getting out or staying away from trouble!

I'm 71 and I'm still excited about scoring well in golf as I was at 40. I've always joked that a par 5 could be negotiated with three good seven irons, but I never did it. Why? Because when all your buds pull out the big stick, you go for yours too. Of course, I frequently hit it into the woods, water and other schmutz. There's a lot of letting go of your machismo in your system (and, of course, it makes perfect sense), but I think I'm at the point where I'm up for the challenge. Dammit, time to be a real man.

  • @alanwaterworth6464

This is exactly how the best playa in our works golf society plays. He´s a single digit playa. Puts the ball in play off the tee. Hits his second to a lay-up. Pitches or chips onto the green, leaving himself a 1-2 putt. I´ve seen him do this in the worst imaginable conditions and still shoot a decent score. It´s not exciting or dramatic or challenging. But it looks so simple. I might be longer off the tee, but in the trees. And I might be closer to the green on my second, but then chunk it or thin it through the green, meaning I might drop a shot or two to him every couple of holes. And that playas, makes the difference between winning the comp, and coming in mid field.

That’s it! I’m playing all holes only with a pitching wedge (it goes a 110 yards) and I’ll just add one more stroke to my expectations. I have a suspicion that my overall score will come down and I’ll lose fewer balls.

If I had a golf coach that taught me this when I first started back in junior high I would have been a lot better than I was. I was a 14 handicapper when I graduated, if I had these videos back then I would have been a baus.

Wish you had a 5 or 6 club tournament to put on YT. it would be fun to watch. I find that I play to my level of comfort. When I get out of that comfort zone I panic. You have created a system to change your level of comfort. The most important point of your system is, "is it believable?" Change your mindset from "Can I do this?" to "I can do this!"WELL DONE.

Not only does this seem effective, but it should also be fun because you are setting up your favorite approach shot. The most fun I have in golf is when I get on the green 100 yards away with my pitching wedge. If I just set that up each hole, then I'm guaranteed to have fun if getting consistent contact. Hopefully I break 100 tomorrow using these tips 🤞

long time viewer first time caller.....My children are starting out and I am trying to convince them to ignore the "par" and consider it as "GIR" instead. To convince them this is a better way of thinking of it you can then give points for reaching in GIR and two putting, so a different form of stableford. They respond even more when you set it up for them to beat me 😂

Great concept in general - just a suggestion:
At the beginning of this part, you claim we should "get it on the green" planning backwards from green to tee - the "comfortable distances" of the short clubs you mention later on are pointing to the PIN --> shouldn't that be actually the middle of the green?
Another thing: beginners probably won't have "favourite distances" into the green, but they might make up their mind by practising the shorter clubs as you mentioned in previous parts...
Keep up the good work, Matt!

2 putts, so many times I three putt as I often hit the ball too hard or too soft. Greens are different everywhere and by the time you understand the pace your on hole 16! Practicing before playing fails to help. On a good day I will easily do less than 36, but there are more bad days than good ones.

How do I go from that to 10 handicap? I'd love to be comfortable with a minus 18 handicap!

    • @GolfSidekick
      @GolfSidekick  Před 3 lety +1

To 10 handicap 200+ off the tee and in play
Hit two or of the the par fives in three shots
Hit two of the the par threes in one shot
Hit the short par fours in two shots or be around the green to up and down
Assuming your short game is passable you will need to be effective at approach shots 150 to 100 yards
10 handicap is average score of about 85-86 so you need to be making some pars on the par fives and par threes.
Add one stroke to the par of each hole. Play the course as par 90. Except the par 5. Time to start hittingthem in three shots. And the par threes need to start making a good appearance with a few threes there

Only issue I see with breaking up the hole with an extra shot or two is that someone currently shooting 100+ are wildly inconsistent in strike.
They'll be hitting more bad shots than good so their third shot will be way longer than normal which will in the long run average a higher score since they need to now either lay up again or hit a longer club. Also even if they got to the lay up distance, they have to hit another decent shot which is again less likely to happen than not.
