    Overdrive: "OK, I like the sound you've got, but I'm here to push that sound and make you work harder!"
    Distortion: "OK buddy, I hear what you're trying to do, but I think I can do a better job. When you ask me to get involved, it's just me. Cool?"
    Fuzz: " I don't care about you or your sound. Seriously mate, when I get involved I'm gonna do whatever I want and I don't care what you think."

    Great video! Only thing I want to add is: Put your fuzz as the very first thing in your chain (yes even in front of your tuner, especially if it's buffered). They do weird things otherwise. They don't sound like they are supposed to sound. Not necessarily worse, I think they do but that's subjective.
    There are fuzz friendly buffers and wah pedals. It's better but still not the same as when you put it as the first thing in your chain.
    But I'm just a guy on the Internet so go and experiment :D

      I ended up having a EHX Micro Pog and Caline widowmaker bass drive before my wah. after the wah I added a Boss TU-3 due to its buffer, then my EHX Big Bass Muff. Bass drive is almost always on. for some reason it just gives more life to my Bass muff and my Rickenbacker Bass sounds downright killer

    • @marcelpaquet8134
      @marcelpaquet8134 Před rokem

      @@hobowithabass4034 Big Muff circuits are the expetion there. They use 4 diods for clipping. Instead of the two or three like a fuzz face or tone bender style circuit. Makes them a lot less succcepteble to buffers and the like. But in my opinion they also don't clean up as nicely either, with your volume pod.

    I think it's called intermodulation distortion when two notes together with one being bent upwards, makes a tone go downwards at the same time. Intermodulation distortion. I learned that word because I made a hi-fi subwoofer, and in the context of subwoofers, intermodulation distortion is a no-no.

    The Rat used to have a 2 channel rack unit called the Rat R2DU. I ran one of those through a Marshall JCM 100 and used both channels at the same time. It came with a foot switch so I could stop on both at once to turn it off and go fully clean channel, then stomp on both to get a massive metal distortion sound. Was awesome.

    You know what Dagan? I initially headed up to a musical instrument shop to buy Earthquaker devices "Westwood" (two days ago). Yes I was interested by havin some kind of "enhanced" overdrive. In the afternoon, I headed back and asked to hear how the "Santa ana" was sounding like. Once the seller plugged it in the amp, I was literally under the "charm" of it. Once demoed, I changed my mind and went for it. The best part is that I have no regrets about it.
    Most of my gear is made from Electro Harmonix. So why not a Fender od won't have its place in the set?
    Since then, I explore all of the possible ways to get the best from that particular overdrive. And don't regret of having bought it. If I'd make the same choice back? I'd certainly go for it without any doubt.
    Your videos are still enjoyable to watch. Thumbs up and keep it up
    Cheers from Belgium ;)

    I always tell people. To check an MXR Distortion + or DOD 250 preamp. I build a clone myself. It works as a distortion, however it is more or less an Overdrive. If you turn the gain down. It also works great into a clean amp to immulate an overdrive channel. Simple and works well with other pedals in that low gain scenario. It's a hard clipper like the centaur. Pretty crazy if you compare it so soft clipper like a ts2 for example.

    • @PMTVUK
      @PMTVUK  Před 3 lety +7

      Great question! It will certainly drive the amp a bit harder, but will colour the tone a bit more and add a "sound". Overdrive pedals like the Tubescreamer are better used with valve/tube amps as they push the amp valves into saturation, but you'll get a nice boost with some colouration. either way. -Lee

      There are several “mini” fuzz faces available, each modelled on the originals of different eras.
      The “blue” used here I believe is based on the 70’s model which had a more aggressive, dirty tone!
      If your planning on buying one I suggest you find somewhere that all of them in stock and trying them out to see which suits your style best!

    • @GregStraub42
      @GregStraub42 Před 3 lety +1

      Blue is an early 70s silicone. The red is late 60s germanium. Red with white knobs is different.

    • @marcelpaquet8134
      @marcelpaquet8134 Před 3 lety +1

      I have a silicon fuzz face style pedal aswell (jhs smiley) and when I crank both knobs all the way up it sounds similar but not quite as extrem. That said I don't have humbucker guitar so might be that. And different amp - so preamp might react differently to that overload.
      The other thing it might be is that Dagan likes his trusty boss tuner. Don't know if he has in the chain but if so it's probably the first thing in the chain. And fuzz faces hate buffered signals. They do weird things if you hit them with anything that isn't your direct guitar signal.
