Subject: A SLICE OF LIFE - Feed Your Soul
    Feed Your Soul
We all know that food sustains our bodies, and that regular, nutritious meals are essential for a healthy life. Money enables us to buy food and other items essential for a comfortable life. Literature sharpens our minds and challenges our intellect. So we feed our bodies, our bank accounts, and our minds. These three things we do naturally and often enough. But what about feeding our souls?
These immaterial things which are impossible to substantiate permeate our lives, eventually making the difference between living a life of meaning and joy, and a life of strife and misery.
Here are some suggestions on how you can re-connect with your spiritual side and learn to appreciate the little things in life, adapted from a newsletter.
Cultivate A Sense of Wonder - Challenge yourself to notice what is unique and wonderful as you go about your day, be it the reflection of tree branches in a puddle after a downpour, the scent of freshly-printed books or the rich crimson hue of a chair you sit in. When you tune into it you will feel a sense of awe and wonder about the way your life is unfolding, and that will nourish your spirituality.
Run Away For A Little While - A walk along the beach or 20 quiet minutes spent on a park bench in the sunshine can inject a welcome note of serenity into your life. Most people can't retreat from life for three years, but a week, weekend or even a day can be very enriching.
Contemplate The Meaning Of Death - Take time to consider what death means and discuss it with people you feel close to. Accepting that our time on earth is not eternal can help us to savour the sweetness of life.
Keep A Journal - Start or end each day by writing a few paragraphs about what you are worrying about or working on in your life. Writing can be a way to look deep within and be honest with yourself. Recording your dreams can also be useful. Dreams are about things that are important to you. If you can remember your dreams, then you can receive their meaningful
    messages.
Forgive Someone Who Has Wronged You ? Neil Sedaka sang about how "breaking up is hard to do", but what is even more difficult is forgiving. But when we forgive, we tap into a higher order. It means letting go, and not letting your anger have negative power over you.
Do An Anonymous Good Deed - A silent favour can be a wonderful spiritual pick-me-up. It can be as simple as letting someone who is obviously in a hurry get ahead of you in line. Such efforts will focus you on other people's hardships ... and keeping it quiet means that it is truly a gift to a greater power.
So as you go about your daily acts of feeding your body, mind and bank account, remember to put aside some time each day to also feed your soul. Remember that although the first three might be important for life, the absence of the last one will ultimately neutralise everything else.
