Reiko is such a strange character. He has a parry, a command grab and the best projectile. Itstlike developers didn't know what to do with him, ao they just slapped random moves.

@@HectorMartinez-zr3ve command grab isn’t that scary. It can be ducked and he gives up oki for only 11%. EX isn’t really worth it either as it takes two bars, yes it’s a mid and yes it does good damage but it’s better to have breaker more often than not.
Lol I’m not gone lie, I don’t use the shurikan too much because of how good it is. But once someone starts T-Bagging, I’ve been able to out zone Shang 😅
@@HectorMartinez-zr3veIf you duck without blocking, it won't hit without Reiko spending a bar. I think he lacks the versatility to be a pure zoning threat, although he can get a bit dangerous with someone like Kung Lao kameo. I think his strengths usually come from how he combines different ranges. He's versatile enough that he'll always have options.
As a Reiko main, ive been having a blast with him. Sure his great with darius for the damage but i feel you give up a bit too much & if you whiff your probably dead.. i generally like to use frost or sareena kameo for more consistent damage or utility.. not sure why people underestimate him though. He is a A tier character and not just cause he can do 62% with darius either..

Tiers don't mean shit right now. A character could be "okay" in the general view, but could be a massive sleeper. Watching the top players in KL of Reiko mains, he doesn't seem weak. He doesn't seem like he struggles for options. Kitana is the only one that I feel comfortable saying that she needs something to help her out.

One thing to note, EX command grab makes the throw, that is a high, a mid, another reason that it costs 2 bars

I was gonna say didn't Netherealm make The Injustice series, with Solomon Grundy being a nightmare if he ever caught you with one of the easiest chain grabs ever.
I agree ban was good, but his reliance on the Venom meta game was abit too much for the average player to wrap their head around. But in terms of number of command grabs and anti air grabs, Bane takes it.
When it comes to damage, speed and pressure, its all Reiko
@@incognitofool6516 A good number of characters are pretty tough for the average player, anyway, e.g. Red Hood, Dr. Freeze, Cheetah, Hellboy etc. Which is a gameplay balance in and of itself. Like Kenshi in this game too

I love the new Reiko, I wanted to main Rain before game release but portals made me confused. I gravitated towards Reiko. I don't even want to play any other fighter, he's so fun. Totally my vibe.

Yep as a hard-core boxing and mma fan I love playing as him. Reiko is all I've used so far lol. He's really fun to play with. I love landing his command grab, overhead and takedown.
@@diamondcutz1499 me too! I never really played grappler characters but picked up Reiko and almost instantly loved his playstyle. Winning with him is so satisfying. And here I was thinking I was gonna be a Johnny Cage main again lol 😆
That’s how I was with Havik but now I can’t stop playing Baraka, he’s just an unstoppable force of nature
It also helps that Reiko has the most violent and cruel fatalities by far in the game, he goes out of his way to make his opponents suffer in the worst way possible
It's good to see Reiko finally getting some credit, & finally available to play as a real character again. It's been so long & he has been one of my favorite characters since MK 4
My friend plays Reiko and he just runs away to the opposite side of the map and nonstop spams the projectile. Not to mention he uses a Jax Kameo for the unblockable ground pound and combo damage. It is extremely irritating to play against because to top it off when you finally get close to him he'll just poke you, grab you, and then go back to spamming the shuikens
Would a sub zero body armor kameo be able to eat all those projectiles or is it limited to a certain amount of projectiles?
Sounds like an issue with how he plays more so the actual character

you know the shurikens are a high attack you can duck under, right? unless he uses the special bar to make it a mid but there's a limit to how often that can be done.
@@ImSoConfuciusActually the sub armor can only take two hits from this projectile its bs, and the EX version breaks the armor which I really disagree with. Reiko has the best projectile and it breaks anti projectile armor which is stupid and overpowered
One thing you missed is that if you ex the command grab, it can follow up after normal attacks (which the normal grab doesnt). With that you can basically low poke neutral ducking opponents and follow up with a +30% combo as another form of mix up
And it's also a mid, pretty broken haha
Gotta say I really appreciate these character breakdown vids. Makes the more intimidating characters much easier to understand.
the animation on his attacks is also perfect, the entry into takedown the 1,2 low kick combo he has. Its all spot on.
i love your videos man but i don't agree with this one, his damage is amongst the lowest in the entire roster, his kameo can basically be called in once per round, his 620 damage is very situational as it requires all of your resources. plus his neutral is very bad because its a 16 frame starter.
Facts, plus when you compare to people like baraka or raiden who get over 500 damage from 1 bar. Or even melina who does over 540 damage with 2 bars and scorpion cameo
The 62 % forsure is situational but depending on how much meter you want to dump a combo can give you anywhere from 40-50 with a kameo and about 30- 39 without kameo. So not big boy raiden damage but easily consistent. That mixed in with back 3 being an excellent poke/ punish tool from neutral and is 2,1 combo string that can be either cancelled into projectile, knee charge if you hit confirm, or finish the string for the low to get pressure for a wake up counter or throw. He’s a solid grappler
@@DiggThePumpI agree he's solid, I got to elder God with him. Max damage with 3 bars and kameo is around 460 which is insanely low compared to other charcters. Whilst he's projectile is amazing, his parry is completely useless unless amplified. He's far from the best grappler. At best he's a A+, but even that need a good player.
The only reason you need to be close to your opponent as reiko is for his command grab. His reach is what makes him special

I literally just started labbing with him a few days ago. I love him but he takes getting used to. He doesn’t play like others you want to use the reach on his foward4. To keep opponents away. But once you master him he’s great.

I love that youre rockin the roman skull helmet on him, its the clearest homage to his mk4 ending and man does it kick ass. I love that hes serving as the sudo gladiator stand in since we havnt had a gladiator in mk before! I like his play style alot hes kinda like jacqui from mk11 in some ways. i definitely think hes underrated cuz hes not a big iconic character but his style is really fun i just wish he used his knife and spear in his moveset somehow

I decided to main Reiko even before I knew his move-set. I loved him MK:A even though his damage was scaled terribly in that game. Absolutely love him in MK1, it's nice to see him getting some love.
The 2 bar command grab is a mid grab so you can’t duck it, you can also follow it up after an attack that leaves them standing
I began Playing Reiko since I realized how badly sub zero needed a buff.
I finally realized how fun the game can be, playing someone else besides a character who needs a buff badly
Literally the same story with me.
I think it's just nice to see characters like Reiko get their own fighting style instead of just being Shao Khan lite.
I haven't played MK1 yet to try Reiko, but he does look amazing as a grappler. But let's not also forget that Netherrealm Studios did a pretty good job with Kano in MK11 as a grappler too!
MKX you had grapplers with insane throw damage bro, Injustice you had Grundy and Bane...MK11 had this thing with grabs having low damage.

Even Bane gets less damage with his throw and has to suffer lvl 3 venom withdrawal lol

He needs Darius to do this without him he's one of the lowest damage characters in the game ( as bad as Havik) and the command grab becomes no where near as scary
Darrius can only really be used once a round unless yall not fighting or zoning lmao he's basically a shotgun thats scary once/ twice a game
Reiko is the greatest kharacter in ALL of MK1, he deserves ALMOST, ALMOST as much respect as General Shao.

i am a reiko main, and i wasnt expecting to main him but here i am. Something you seemed to forget is that he can do EVEN MORE DAMAGE cuz of his command grab, if you command grab someone that is blocking UP, it TRIPLES THE DAMAGE (if u amplified it). which means its actually possible to get 75%, although no one seems to block up most of the times
but yes i love reiko and i cant wait for some new skins for him

Since they put my mains in previous games as khameos, i am so glad they brought Reiko Back and gave him such a cool moveset. DDT, Spinebuster with Ground and Pound and a release german suplex. 🥰

Never been a grappler fan but as soon as I picked up Reiko something about him just clicked with me. I knew after five minutes of practice that I was going to main him.

The meter burn command grab also turns into a mid so if you use his f2 that is plus 8 you have to jump to avoid it.

It wasn’t explicitly stated together but all these 300+ damage combos all are back to back in game because of the pressure from the tackle, so his damage is low but he will melt you off 3 interactions that you have to guess on

Cryomancer sub zero in mkx had a super good command grab that led to combos, so I’d say he had the best one, but then again, everyone was like op in that game

I’m a Johnny main and reiko is like my toughest matchup for some reason. Most characters I’m cool with fighting but I dread when I see a reiko when the match starts. His midrange and zoning is really hard to deal with for my Johnny

Solomon Grundy's Trait was ridiculous. You can combo all three throws into 40+% damage and give him a damage boost depending on what the final input was.

dead ass i recently picked up MK1 and i just picked characters that i thought were cool (reiko and darrius), i had no idea they were actually a real good team
What I like about reiko is how basic he seems, in a roster with ninjas, warrior princesses, gods and the like, heres a soldier thats just STANCED UP

I used to not really care about reiko because I felt like he was water downed shao kahn but now he is a skilled soldier spartan and he's one of my favorite characters

I cannot get the timing on the grab+darius combo no matter what i try, holding not holding, waiting to drop or not. It just wont go
Reiko main since day one and i have been trying to use stryker and scorpion instead of Darrius and i think it works pretty well.
Stryker for some extra pressure and mix up and scorpion for that easy combo extensions.
Darrius has more damage and all but i bet most comments here have strong opinions against darrius so i don't have to say more

On an unrelated note, and, Not too be negative, I think that MK9 meter should come back and to compensate for the loss of the "normal" meter make it have more blocks and Also make the fatal blows use a block or couple of blocks while for using your X it would have to use the full meter, that way the Kombat is more strategic and you can have longer combos and your opponent can have more chances to get out of them, and to mitigate the compensation that a lower health opponent would get from an X attack in the "normal" system the meter would build up faster for the lower health opponent.
Reiko Has come a long way from being a Noob Saibot rip-off to The MK grappler, and it's great, I hope other 3d era mk guys get their own mojo as well.

Damn you can do so much damage with Jax and his different grabbing variations and he doesn’t need a sidekick to help him boost his combo but I have not played MK1 so idk or am I tripping?
I do main rain but recently i've been trying reiko since i do like him a lot, since i start using him i've been having a blast, Darrius could be nice for him for this combo but it do take (optional) ur whole bar, i do prefer using scorpion as a kameo for him
Reiko is amazing when am done wirh kenshi he is my character.
He’s my main, I have a 60% win rate with him. Love that I’m amongst the few who use him and he’s not some S tier character. I usually stay away from S Tier character as I find them to be too easy to use and or win with. I like working for wins.
