- Kareena Kapoor and Akshay Kumar attended a special session at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, 2019 and the actress spoke about the gender disparity in Bollywood saying she wants to make as much money as Akshay Kumar. The actor had a very practical response to Kareena’s issues and even made a business proposition to the actress. Check out the full conversation.

Seems like most of the people in the comments didn't understand Akshay's answer. He implied that he makes more money than Kareena because he takes a bigger risk by tying his compensation to the success of the movie. It has nothing to do with male vs female.

I believe in equal rights and equal responsibility. If you dont share equal responsibility you dont deserve equal rights. And I am not protesting for pay equality... In entertainment industry pay disparity will always exists. Main reason is audience who watch the films of these stars. People go gaga over male superstar and bring in 200-300 cr at the box office and for female superstar only some like Deepika, Kangana brings money on board but it's still not comparable to the male counterparts. One has to judge your payment on how many fans you can bring to the cinema hall on your own....not tagging along with some lead star and then thinking you are as big as him. I am not saying Kareena is a bad actor. She is pretty good and has done many good films. But she is has to prove that she is at par with Akshay Kumar to demand that kind of a salary. I am also not saying there is no disparity when it comes remunerations between a man and woman. But your remunerations should be directly proportional to your worth. Not your gender, race or connections. Its not about comparisons but fighting unfairness depending on your worth. We should stop making it a race between a man or a woman, we should look at how we want to make our society more equal for everyone.

In 10th boards he got 70 something % while I got 85% .. same is the case with Alia and Kareena.. Dear Zindagi and Highway .. Alia was just wow.. and in SOTY I didn't even like her.. now Producers can invest on her coz Alia ko dekhne log theatre jate hai .. Kareena ke liye Mei 50rs na du .. Pvr toh fir bhi Kam se Kam 200 leta hai

And the time when Kareena was in her prime, equal pay wasnt even a debate. Even now Kareena is seen in films in leading roles, that in itself is exemplary. And she holds the power to garner mass attention. She aint ruled bollywood for 2 decades for nothing.

You get paid for what you are worth of .If kareena can bring audience to theatre like Akshya ,hrithik,shahid then obviously she will be paid like them.If not then why?
Its not about gender disparity in terms of payment. Its about who brings more crowd to the multiplex. Its about the person majorly responsible for making the movie more profitable. Both are successful actors. But did any solo performance of Kareena earned as much commercially as Akshay?
