Jerry is a survivor. And thank Christ for that
He’s Rooster jr 🤘🏽💙
Sean? He's the founder of AiC too
Thank god, Jerry is a goddamn legend. Shout out Sean too who’s also 1 of the 2 founding members with Jerry and a legend himself
Shoutout Eddie Vedder!
Truer words have never been said.
This song solidified the fact this band didn't die with Layne.
No, because Layne still alive with them.
They already solidified that years ago. Fair weather fans just dismissed them. Anyone whos seen them live knows Jerrys still got it and Willaiim is great and not identical to Layne.
@@vinyldiary6664 Yes he's, along with Mike Starr LSMS
But they had nothing to do with the new AiC stuff
@@dorkknight42 well said
Jerry just took the lead. What a beautiful song and and amazing performance
I thank God for the fact that Jerry Cantrell is still with us. One of the greats.
Too bad most people say Eddie is the only living grunge frontman left
@@goldenhourkodak yes exactly!!!👍👍👍
Greatest
What a
@@goldenhourkodak what about Mark Arm and Tad Doyle Mudhoney can be taken as simple listening band, but they have musical jewels and treasures in every album, they still rock live!👍👍
Isn't anyone going to mention that William was on fire with his backup vocals here 🔥🔥👏
Aic forever ♥️
Absolutely. William is amazing. Such a down to earth dude. People want to try and compare him to Layne. You can't. Nobody will fill Layne's shoes... but William does an absolutely fantastic job.
@@M1n0rXxXthr3aT
That's true when they recruited him,Jerry said he is not meant to replace Layne, people are like "ah he is just trying to respect Layne won't change the fact William is Layne's replacement" but it's true he isn't a replacement for Layne even though he sings some of the Layne era songs live but if you see the real picture and consider the post Layne era songs because for almost every post Layne era songs Jerry and William have shared vocals, usually Jerry is the lead vocalist and William is backup vocalist and other times vice versa.
Also another great thing about him is that he is great as lead guitarist as you can see from this performance too...
Though I'm not really much into AIC new music nowadays, but I gotta be honest William is amazing.
@@M1n0rXxXthr3aT William is amazing! He really shines on the last 3 AiC albums: Never Fade, Last of my Kind, Acid Bubble and many others.
@@juanpijimenez9850
Totally agree with you
So glad they found DuVal as his voice compliments Jerry's voice so well.
No doubt! I was a hater for a long time, but the music doesn’t lie! His voice dancing behind Jerry’s is silky smooth
100% agree
DuVal was in an impossible situation but I don't see anyone doing as well unless Layne cloned himself and we don't know about it.
@@devinhorton592 Same here
Not to mention he's a pretty decent guitarist that compliments Jerry superbly as well.
Finally an Aic live performance on CZcams where sound engineer did his job perfectly...
Agreed!!! Great comment
I don't know about "sound engineering" but, watch God Am live, the last show with Layne, and tell me the sound of that show isn't better than the Studio version. And It is on CZcams
@@wanderson3212
Actually I was referring to some of the live performances of their recent time, and ofc I wasn't referring to all of their live performances but some, ofc almost all of their live performances have been great especially unplugged which was one of their greatest
But for an instance see "Stone live performance from I think it was guitar center" you will see what I was talking about.
Also other than that there have been some Aic live performances where Jerry's mic is on a lower volume than William's which is ofc not the band's fault but definitely a failure from sound engineer.
@@chuckmcgill6673 their live stuff on their own tours sounds fuckin amazing still but the sound always gets fucked up
When hey do stuff like festivals and stuff. They’ve sounded amazing on their last few album tours tho. I’m really
Hoping we can get a live album from this lineup, it’s been so long we desperately need one.

Couldn't agree More
Jerry Cantrell is a living legend.
Sean Kinney does not age at all, incredible.
That would be the effect make-up has. I met Sean in Las Vegas and I was blown away at how differently he looked in person. So many blood vessels burst under his eyes from all the drinking.... really made me look at the band different since Layne was always the lightning rod that caught all the shit for his drug use
Just as his snare sound
And his twin lostie brother... El Trentino Reznor. 🤭
@@seanlange6715 sad, Jerry looks horrible as well.
@@seanlange6715 Yeah their bad habits really caught up with them, Jerry wasn't clean until 2003 and Sean until 2006. But I think anyone would look rougher than usual when touring all over the world.
We need a second acoustic album from them!
We just need another live album in general, acoustic or not acoustic it doesn’t matter to me I just need to hear another pro shot live album from them, it’s been too long.
Absolutely right about that one
Hell yes!!!!!
Mopop giving aic lifetime award is a saver during this 2020 madness
I am with you on that
This is such a beautiful, but very sad and emotional song. RIP Layne and Mike, God bless Jerry, William, Sean and Mike.
Amen
God died many years ago, long before the pathetic AIC addicts. Gaymen.
Who would like an unplugged part 2?
Me!
I think every AIC fan in the world would, They’re so good on acoustics and will and Jerry have fantastic chemistry singing together and both crush on guitar
Super me! With Duvall would be legendary
Does Unplugged actually exist anymore?
Nah not without Layne.....dont think I'd even watch it. And not out of disrespect. I just can't imagine then singing there old stuff (unplugged) without him. To me there's Layne. And that's it. William is good, but that has nothing to do with it, u know? Gotta be Layne man..all day
Last of thier kind, still standing! ...
I wish I could see a live recording of that song... oh man.

My favorite band for the last 30 years, time for the rock and roll Hall of Fame!🤘🏼
Layne would be very happy to see his buddy continue on what he couldn't.
this hits me like a bus
I'm happy Jerry And Sean still rocking, two survivers.Ines and Duvall you two have all my respect.Thank you 4!
While the heavy/gritty songs with Layne are some of my favorites of all time, I always looks forward to hearing the acoustic/mellow songs lead by Jerry.
A band out of time and space, another dimension.

Viva Alice in chains!!!! Forever 😊Aún sigo extrañando a Layne😭💔 . Saludos desde Argentina
When this song was released in 2009 I wouldn't listen but I found it coming on the radio about 2 years go and I was blown away. Amazing tune. Jerry does it again
Jerry always does it again, some of their best songs ever are on the last 3 albums even tho Layne isn’t on those albums. Jerry is a fuckin genius

It's crazy to think about how good of a singer Jerry is in his own right
Absolutely, he's brilliant
Oh please let this pandemic come to an end, I simply have to sit front row for these guys before I die. Best band in my personal music history, hands down.
I saw them two years ago in Leeds, by far the best band I've seen live
Me too! I’m so mad I missed them when they toured with Korn. 😭 Front row AIC concert is number one in my bucket list!! 😭💙 AIC is simply top tier!
For all the audio nerds watching this, how good is that drum sound in that room!
Good? The snare sounds like a fucking Glock, it's horrible, especially for an acoustic performance.
I imagine layne harmonizing with them.
Jerry is the GOAT
2:16 Jerry's solo is so short but so perfect. Beautiful phrasing
I freakin’ love this song... Jerry on lead vocals! My fav on “Black gives way to Blue”
Layne is irreplaceable, but this dude is legit. Perfect compliment to Jerry. Sounds like AIC. So happy to hear some new material from these guys.
Time to get these legends to the HOF once for all c'mon!
JERRY IS ONE OF THE BEST GUITARIST/SONGWRITERS,I'D NEVER GET TIERED OF HEARING THEIR MUSIC 👍👍👍
gotta love this song. it’s so grungy and yet so beautiful. it’s bittersweet and absolutely addicting to listen to! this band will always be the best :) 🎸❤️
“so grungy and yet so beautiful.” AIC in a nutshell (no pun intended)
The entire evening showed solidarity and admiration for AIC reaching the pinnacle of their dreams. It makes my heart glad to see Jerry coming to realize his true potential for an enlightened frontman singing his amazing lyrics. His sense of humor and the Nona Weisbaum cameos are noteworthy for those scouting for the next Saturday Night Live host.So much respect one for the other in brotherhood.New performers showed the beauty and brilliance of his lyrics. If blessed to know Jerry, the meaning of faithful, loyal friend is embodied in sincere humility.Thank you for enriching our lives with a little piece of heaven.
I love the music but i also love the comments, make me feel like i am not alone with this music 🖤 thanks
Me too. Thanks for your comment. Let’s all listen together.

Ah yes. They got that 90s golden sound again! Amazing!!
The absolute greatest band of all time. I can say, I’ve seen them 5 times. 3 with Layne , 2 with Mike Starr. R.I.P. gentlemen..❤️
Jerry is hands-down the most influential musician in my life. This song just proves it one more time. I love ya brother.

Lifelong fan of AIC..this is one of many of my favorite songs.
Alice in chains is a big part of my history.
I was 18 when facelift came out, AIC was the soundtrack of my youth.
Me too brotha, they’re fuckin legends, the world is a better place with AIC in it.
What a gorgeous song.
Eternal AIC!
Layne is irreplaceable, but this dude is legit. Perfect compliment to Jerry
What a performance. Incredible.
AIC is like an aged whiskey, keeps getting better over time!!! Layne your missed and we’ll never forget your memory, you set the stage of where they are today!
I have loved this band since I was 14 im 42 now. Duval has been a good fit
Jerry and Sean are gods, may they gift us with metal with until the end of time.
Edit: You can't tell me "Rainer Fog" isn't a metal album, shit I consider them more metal than grunge, they were considered grunge due to the era they emerged, same with the Deftones and "Nu Metal".
Tho first two deftones albums are straight nu metal
. ✨ *Congratulations* ✨ .
. *Alice In Chains* .
Rock In Heaven *Mike & Layne* ❤

Wow! Their voices intertwine perfectly well creating a beautiful harmony. I forgot the fact that AIC had lot of beautiful vocal harmonies!!!
I’ll never forget when this album first came out. It was the best thing I had heard since...well, probably 1996. What a comeback. What a fucking band....
I fucking love this song. Particularly the drums - so strong and clear. Legends
Cantrell, front and center where he deserves to be.
Jerry is looking like Tom petty now days and that is awesome.. love Alice and chains ⛓ got to shout out the hummingbird guitar sounds great
One of the greatest songwriters ever. Big up Jerry and happy birthday!
Beautiful performance ! 😍
Love how Mike Inez's bass covered the string/swells at the beginning of the song....very cool.

I love Layne as we all do but how great for Jerry as a lead guitarist/singer to be singing playing rhythm and having another singer with you that can play lead fills as well. Layne would approve.
I love these guys!!
I just stumbled on this and the other videos from this fundraiser. There's a poetic beauty in Alice in Chains doing one of their mellower post-Layne songs while the other artists on the bill covered their classics. This show really celebrated everything that makes AIC great.
Jerry Cantrell is a amazing MUSCIAN... his harmony with LAYNE STALEY was pure perfection!!!!! LAYNE was awesome as hell but Alice in Chains just wouldn't of been the same without Jerry Cantrell!!! AIC IS THE BEST BAND EVER!!!!!!!! MISS YOU LAYNE!
It's like when Bon Scott died after Highway to Hell and in Comes Brian Johnson with Back in Black. Black gives way to Blue is Awesome.
this song was a ray of hope for me, and a sad reminder at the same time this whole record was something special!
Anybody think it’s eerie hearing Time to change has come and gone and seeing the mask hang there? times are different for sure. Feels a little to late to go back to normal. RIP LAYNE AND MIKE WE LOVE AND MISS YOU
never get tired of this amazing song. thanks AIC
If only Layne was here today...
It's so sad no one could save him. Not even himself.
You know, you can't save the one who doesn't want to be saved
*P h i l o s o p h y*
Mike Starr too
Too bad he didnt wanted to be saved at all. The drugs were like a slow suicide. So sad.
@@LBNMKRS thats whats the problem with drug addiction. Its a mental disease just like any other, its just manifested through a substance. Mental illness is hard to fight and addiction is hard to kick, especially with heroin. I miss him and also Scott Weiland. And Scott had been doing well and so many thought he had finally beat it. He was almost 50 when he died. Horrible
Layne was watching from some place out there and thought "wish I was there too with the Boys"
This is indeed incredible and entrancing!

Amazing tribute for AIC congrats
THAT STACHE ON CANTRELL!
Brilliant.
layne and mike would approve! love those guys, they always shine a light on the darker days of life. thank you aic.
One of my favorite songs by these musical GODs! Seen them on tour at the HOB in Anaheim CA. Thank you for your music Alice in Chains!
Incredible performance!
This was written about Layne by a bitter, pissed off Jerry Cantrell and with good reason.
Time to change has come and gone
Watched your fears become your god
It's your decision
It's your decision
Overwhelmed, you chose to run
Apathetic to the stunned
It's your decision
It's your decision
You feed the fire that burned us all
When you lied
To feel the pain that spurs you on
Black inside
No-one plans to take the path that brings you nowhere
Here you stand before us all and say it's over
It's over
Some loved how drugs removed the pain, but they circled around to make us more miserable and tense than we ever could have imagined. Think of the talent that was lost to heroin!
@@lynnbultman7268 would we have the same music from a sober Layne Staley? I don't think so.
Who said Jerry was bitter or pissed? It was what it was. Layne made a choice and he sang to world about the pain his choice caused him. He even told us how it would end for him. It was Layne’s decision and he made that very clear.
@@arinpursch1971 he did, several times.
@@Rotttman actually, Jerry said, several times, the song wasn’t about Layne, specifically. The album, however, Black Gives Way to Blue, was a dedication, to Layne. Go talk to Jerry 😉
Back vocals 💪💪💪
That bass!!!
I love this so much
Masterpiece.
THANKS FOR THIS!!!!!’ 🙏🏻
Man DuVall simply gets better and better overtime. I feel it for the washed up "fans" that bash on Will just because he's not copying Layne. Anyone that criticizes DuVall unfairly has never been in their live concerts, EVER. The man brings such a huge energy to songs, even old ones.
And then there are the racist comments towards him that thankfully get ignored. And as much as they hate DuVall, he's still there after more than a decade, and obviously Jerry is more than satisfied to what he has accomplished with the band. And who knows more about AiC than the very same man that created the band (with Sean) in the first place.
DuVall, you are part of Alice in Chains, and always have been!
