    What an absolute pleasure it is to be able to work on this car, an original GTI Engineering car fully restored and to top that off its got a Brian Ricketts 2ltr engine installed so its rapid.
    1984cc + Port and Polished Head + 276 degree camshaft + 850ish KG = Big Fun
    - Rectified split WUR diaphragm ✔️
    - Rectified cold start and poor idle ✔️
    - Set up and live road tested ✔️

    Speaking of brm there is a video of the late brian ricketts talking about the vw gti and how he tuned them up, its on youtube search for this title, The history of the Golf GTI - VW Video with Chris Goffey - 21 years special, it's starts from the mk1 and works it's way to the mk3 16v in 1996 🥰

    Great work. Your videos have beed quite helpful. Kindly send link(s) to where you source the 16V WUR diaphragm.

    really good video as ever 👍 me being thick when it comes to knowing where to start on my own 16v motor, i wish there was an idiots guide type video of how to set up these engines step by step.ive tried the typed version available on clubgti and i find its not written for "idiots" more for those who understand the terminolgy and equipment more. I suppose such a video would take too long to make though....🤔🤔

      Thanks, alot of it is experience with the engines and picking up on the sounds and noises etc, i potentially could make one at some point 👍

      @@GreyGooseRestorations thats great!!! ive looked on the missingpart site, the kjet gauges are appealing to me, bit confused over which ones id need for kjet..
      A future video of the basics would be absolutely brilliant! 👍 how and why you do certain things.
      incidentally, the mk1 used kjet but i didnt know that the later 16v wur's were different to the 8v ones 🤔. There seems to be a bit of secrecy where gti engineering were concerned regarding what exactly they did to the dizzy's and the fueling to achieve the fantastic results that they did, their work was outstanding Brm too 👍, i think the nearest to them in terms of results might have been tim stiles before he retired, my mate sold a lovely red mk1 gti last year which had a "brands hatch" motor in it he said it was superb. thanks again mate 👍👍

    • @GreyGooseRestorations
      @GreyGooseRestorations  Před rokem +1

      To be honest from what I've researched etc theres little or no evidence to the dizzy and fueling being altered bar WUR mod and setting it up.
      You can adjust the metering head flow output but stock they are good for 200bhp

      @@GreyGooseRestorations thanks 👍 yes i remember there being alot of speculation surrounding the ability to produce such great motors, ive never owned a gti enginerring car, im thinking they over engineered stuff like the cranks and the heads? were the engines blueprinted?. I do find this stuff interesting despite not having much mechanical skills, those tweaks to the wur and the fuel flow obviously gave very good results! overall isnt the kjet restrictive beyond a certain point though? its a shame parts like the isv are no longer available but im guessing theres a work around for this should needs be. Im hoping to be getting my own car back up and running fairly shortly 🙏 i do like the delivery from kjet 👍

    • @GreyGooseRestorations
      @GreyGooseRestorations  Před rokem +1

      Yes so much can be gained by getting the cylinder head flow correct and building the engine perfectly. K-jet does have limitations such as its all or nothing, and any adjustments made effect it all.

    Awesome car thanks for sharing! I Am still learning but I thought the warmup reg was just for start and not in play when KjetLamda takes over. Can you please explain? does it set warm pressure as well? How does that compare to shimming the plunger to raise pressure? thanks for clarifying.

    • @GreyGooseRestorations
      @GreyGooseRestorations  Před rokem

      Shimming the pressure relief valve just raises overall system pressure.
      The WUR takes the control pressure from approx. 1bar cold to approx. 4bar warm.
      If its the 16v type the WUR is set to reduce control pressure once the throttle is opened again allowing more fuel to eliminate the lean period that occurs just after throttle opening.
      Warm pressure is fixed unless the WUR mod has been carried out which will then reduce the warm control pressure, allowing more fuel.
      Kjet lambda or CIS-E uses a pressure valve on the side of the metering head to adjust control pressure relevant to certain input signals from various sensors.

      Sounds like I need to continue my education! Thanks for shedding some additional light on the subject. Once I have my car back up and operational I’ll reference these videos and see if I can put it all together.

    Awfully quick that MK1 is! The mk2 with its added weight just cant compare, especially if you're a Jetta owner like myself.
    So you mentioned unplugging the vacuum advance when doing the ignition timing. I have been wondering about this and does this mean unplugging the rubber pipes that fit underneath the large black intake pipe? They are located underneath this pipe close to the intake manifold butterfly.

    • @GreyGooseRestorations
      @GreyGooseRestorations  Před rokem +1

      Definitely is, the distributor should have a vacuum pipe on the side, remove this and plug the pipe with a bolt of sorts. Check and adjust timing then fit the pipe back on.

    do you plug the oil breather hole in air meter box when testing with the gas tester i didn’t even remove that pipe when i done mine was that wrong should i do it over again mines always near the limit at mot time lol but i think it is there pet hate

    • @GreyGooseRestorations

      another quick question you know on the metering head the hole to adjust the co fueling ect does that need to be blocked of in normal use will it let air in upset setting or is it sealed off from the system

  • @Few_politicians_run_your_life

    I used to have it in 1988. It surprising fast. But the plastic part under tge hood was poorly made.
