  • Mabuhay beautiful! Today we are talking about the 3 most important things when navigating your cloth diaper experience.
    Quality Absorbency
    A Diaper that Fits
    Washing Diapers
    One of the most imprints things is quality absorbency, imo. Quality absorbency can take you a long but way! While microfiber and charcoal bamboo does work for some people, they are just not quality inserts which is why I don’t recommend them. Microfiber sheds micro plastics in the wash so it literally loses absorbency over time. To me, that’s just not sustainable or reasonable… especially when natural fiber inserts absorb more and don’t have compression or lose absorbency over time.
    Now I want to talk a little deeper about washing diapers. It’s hard to fit all of my thoughts in one video because this is a complex conversation. I do not give out wash routine advice to help you fix wash routine issues 💜
    There are a handful of washing groups In the cloth community, or rather Facebook communities that offer cloth diaper wash routine support. A lot of these groups run off of a template of advice. This actually comes from a place of wanting to be efficient to help tens of thousands of people. That Is highly Important to note because the Intetion doesn’t come from malice.
    A template Isnt a bad place to start with and can be very helpful. In fact, It helps you get a good Idea of how to structure the washing.
    I think things start to go downhill when strong emotions are pushed towards opposition of thoughts towards eachother OR strong emotions are thrown at each other for trying out different things that deviate from the template… in a sense, the drama around the culture of washing diapers comes from the way we approach this topic, how we share our emotions, and how we share thoughts on this topic.
    As a leader in this community I have actively strayed away from controversial topics because I don’t want to be problematic or make people upset or even face opposition. However, that’s just life. People aren’t going to always like my thoughts or how I lead and that’s okay. I’m here to be me and the way people interpret that is their own projection of their inner world, how they view themselves, and how hard they are on themselves. Because of that I do hold space for those who struggle with mental health. I’ve been very open on this platform about my own mental health over the years. However I do hold strong boundaries about what I will tolerate and what I will not tolerate.
    So, This is NOT a space for anyone to bash myself, other caretakers/parents, or other leaders in this community. We dont need added stress over diapers lol. And It’s really that simple.
    This is not a space to tear people down. We cannot fight fire with fire and build a thriving community if we are constantly at opposition with each other In hateful ways. There has to be a space of nonjudgement that can be held so that we can all voice our experiences. And Yes, I believe we can share experiences without it being at the expense of tearing people down in the process.
    Wash routines are a topic I dislike talking about, but we need more leaders willing to share new narratives and viewpoints to support the community with. There needs to be a balance and my intention is to be open to listen to experiences and learn.

    With how different every baby and every diaper and every washing machine and everyone's water is, how could anyone think there's only one correct way to wash? That's pretty ignorant. Thank you for your honesty.

    Finding the right fit... man this baby keeps growing and I swear day to day the diaper can fit different. Snapping and unsnapping is where we are right now... I miss the days of just pulling the diaper out and it fitting.

      The life lessons deeply intertwined with my cloth diapering journey. There’s so much value in being able to build people up and support them in ways that they can take with them long after their cloth journey is over 💜💜

    I didn’t even notice your rooster until you pointed it out 😂😂 pros of living on a farm I guess hahah. I kinda like it though. It’s oddly comforting, especially when you lovingly tell them to shut up. It’s just the relationship we have with them🤷🏼‍♀️😂

    I am so happy that you finally decided as a leader to talk about wash routines, wash routine was something I struggled with for a year and I was apart of several groups, and I finally had to just leave all the groups and do my own thing because it became toxic! I am still tweaking my wash routine, because guess what different children also need slightly different wash routines based on their specific waste types. Thank you for finally coming forward to really just talk about the reality of something ALOT of cloth diapering mommas struggle with!

      For many years I was afraid of opposition or causing tension. There’s a lot of drama in the cloth world that worsens people ppd and I didn’t want to feed into that. After diving deeper into my own healing last year I feel like I can bring more support and not care about people pleasing. (Used to be a chronic people pleaser) Opposition is a part of life and not everyone will agree with my standpoints, but oh well lol.
      We need more thought leaders willing to change the narrative around wash routines because now there’s a whole culture of toxic mindsets around washing and it’s time we write new narratives. I know a lot of leaders, strong voices, and brands who support me and stand behind me which has helped out a lot 💕💕

      Some of the groups probably aren’t as active as they used to be. The market is shit right now lol, but it is a buyers market. You’re most likely going to find some decent deals!
      The market is over saturated since preorder groups are dominating the market nowadays. But overall, still relevant information when you’re buying used

    As a first time mom I really wanted to cloth diaper but was super overwhelmed when I started to research it. Thanks to you I realized that cloth diapering doesn’t need to be complicated. You gave me the confidence to go for it! My babe is 2 months old and has been in cloth since about 2 weeks. it’s actually been fun to experiment with different folds and combos.

  • @Heirloomspirit

    I spent 8 months researching all different kinds of wash routines and types of diapers. I read the blogs and Facebook group posts. I read all of the posts from people having issues, what the issues were and how others suggested to resolve it. Mostly the same issues over and over. I dove into their experiences for 8 months and by the time my LO was born I was pretty confident I could do it successfully. I've been CD'ing for 6 weeks now and haven't had any issues. We've had a wonderful experience so far. Doing my babies laundry is one of my favorites parts of our day. Just build your knowledge base and learn from others with differing opinions. You'll find your best routine in that sliding scale somewhere.

    Also I did “so much” research on cloth before my daughter was born and for some reason never heard about flooding. Maybe I did but I didn’t remember because my daughter wasn’t born yet. But I quit cloth when she was about 6-7 months for a few reasons (mainly not having a washer and dryer, my partner being the SAHD and having too much on his plate to worry about the leaks and absorbency and fit, etc.).
    But we’re expecting our son in February and with diaper prices like this, I feel like we can’t afford not to try cloth again. It got soooo overwhelming (mainly with wash routines which is so funny now hearing your ‘opinion’ on that whole side of CZcams which is super relatable) and I now realize I have a flooded and that’s partly why our entirely second hand stash on pockets didn’t work out.
    We had all pockets, cheap Alvas/Nora’s Nursery, microfiber inserts/Nora’s nursery “bamboo” inserts, some elastics relaxed just enough to not work well, second hand Bum Genius that were relaxed and homemade inserts that I didn’t make with enough absorbency so it was just a mess.
    I’m telling you, your videos are what’s going to get me back on cloth. I LOVE the concept you had in a video sometime back about how wash routines in 1st world, privileged places are just so…… extra I guess. I would love to hear more on your thoughts on that, even if it’s a private message which you’re probably way too busy for. But somehow, if you read this whole thing, I’d love to pick your brain a little on that.

    I have shampoo build-up in my hair from using shampoo bars. It's annoying just like excess detergent remaining in diapers. But at least I have a plan: wash my hair with baking soda and rinse with diluted vinegar. Now as far as how to use enough detergent in my compact front loading washing machine, but also get the detergent to rinse out without a third wash cycle, still working on that.... 💜 Heidi

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  Před 3 lety +1

      I’ve been wanting to try shampoo bars. I’m glad you’ve shared that you’ve gotten build up from it. I’ve been looking for a good natural shampoo/conditioner since 2017/2018ish and still on the look out.

    • @ECpeesy
      @ECpeesy Před 3 lety

      @@JaysNest Yeah, I think the only truly natural shampoo is using baking soad and vinegar rinse. But it's not great for hair over the long term. There are shampoo brands that use some organic ingredients and some naturally derived ingredients. Bubbles just aren't natural...

    • @buzzi2k
      @buzzi2k Před 2 lety +1

      Depending what shampoo bars you're using, it can be the water hardness that exacerbates build up. I'm in a hard water area of the UK and can't get bar shampoo to work at all, whereas my friend in a soft water area has no problem getting a clean rinse just with water

    I almost didn't start cloth diapering because I was told I had to weigh my diapers wet and use a formula to figure out how to wash them which felt super overwhelming.
    Then I saw Nerdy Momma (Anna) on tiktok where she was talking about how it doesn't have to be hard and complicated. And once she mentioned you and that's how I ended up here! Now I've been cloth diapering for 2 months and I'm obsessed with flats and pre flats 🤣

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  Před 3 lety

      I’m a part of that group too. I don’t really see the relevance to weighing diapers. It’s honestly just more confusing for people.
