- The Lord’s Supper is an opportunity for a public profession of our faith. It’s also a time for Christians to reflect on the once-for-all-time sacrifice made by Christ. In this sermon, Alistair Begg explains that Communion involves instruction, commemoration, proclamation, participation, and anticipation. As we consider each of these facets of the Lord’s Supper, we can more fully appreciate what it means when we gather together.
Preached: 12/3/2000
Scripture: Luke 22:17-20
This man is gifted to preach the word of God. Wow.
If it's true, then indeed it MUST be heard! Thank you, Alistair!
Such clarity and courage reveal the conviction of your calling and obedience.
Holy Spirit, indwelling Spirit of Jesus Christ for each repentant soul, let Truth and wisdom cleanse hearts and renew minds.

I'm baptized but I struggle with the communion because I don't see a scripture where Christ like he does with baptism where he tells the disciples go out and tell everybody this is what they have to do I don't see that in scripture I see a moment and scripture where Christ said to the disciples do this often remembrance of me but I don't hear him say go out until every believer that they have to do it...
Communion is symbolic. When you eat and drink the elements you are saying "Jesus did this for me". For an unbeliever, partaking of the elements would be nonsense.
When Charles opened Parliament on behalf of Queen Elizabeth the Second in 2022, he did not wear the crown and he did not sit on the throne because he was not the King then.
Jesus told the disciples that the bread was his body and the wine was hos blood. Jesus was right there sitting with them when he said this so obviously Jesus was the one who showed they were symbols ofhis body and blood. He didntcit himself and bleed. SoJesus gave the interpretation andhe is truth
Too bad he rejects the words of Jesus as He gave the Supper.
Literal vs Figurative
See for yourself, if what Jesus says in the following verses is "Literal"
1- Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every "word of God". (Can you "eat" the Word of God?)
2- Luke 6:21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be "filled". (Does He mean filled with food?)
3- John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the "bread" of life; he who comes to Me will not "hunger", and he who believes in Me will never "thirst". (Is Jesus the Literal bread?)
4: John 6:54 Who so "eats my flesh", and drinks my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day (Does Jesus want us to eat Literal flesh? see 1 and 3 above)
5- John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the "light" of the world. (Is Jesus literal light?)
6- John 10:7 So Jesus said to them again, Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the "door of the sheep". (Is Jesus literal door?)
7- John 10:9 I am the "door": if any man enter in by me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. (Does Jesus mean literal door and literal pasture?)
8- John 10:11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep.(Is Jesus literal shepherd?)
9- John 15:1 I am the true "vine", and My Father is the "vine dresser"(Is Jesus literal vine?)
10- John 15:5 I am the vine, you are the "branches": (are we literal branches?)
11- John 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this "temple", and in three days I will raise it up. (Is Jesus literal temple?)
12- John 4:14 But whosoever drinks of the "water" that I shall give him shall never thirst. (does Jesus give literal water?)
13- John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and "drink". He that believes on me, as the scripture hath said, "out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water". (Did Jesus mean literal "belly " and literal "rivers"
@@freeindeed2354 So, are you saying that the original sin was not from eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil? And that tree of life couldn't possibly give life, right?
Amen and Amen. Very well put@@freeindeed2354
Do you baptize infants and how can they profess faith
If in Matthew 26:26 , Jesus speaking at the Last Supper “This is my Body …” “This is my Blood” didn’t really mean what He said … what did it mean?
If the Last Supper was just an instruction … not truth as the words state - who defined that? Who claimed that authority ?
If in John 6: 53-58 , Jesus didn’t mean what the words He spoke state … if He really meant it was just the WORD not the literal …. Who claimed that authority to reinterpret?
If both passages are metaphorical for INSTRUCTION or THE WORD … then TRUTH is a matter of interpretation.
Then - the creation story … Noah and his mission … Moses and his stories … all are left to interpretation - to absurd to be true.
TRUTH - What is truth, then.
If 8 people really repopulated the world … to the diversity that it is today … then why is it so hard to grasp Jesus’ words as Truth as it stands?

@@freeindeed2354 So then creation is figurative … as a day is like a 1,000 years and a 1,000 like a day. Was creation completed in 6 days or 6,000 thousand or some other figure? When we slice and dice a belief based on interpretation … the question then is … who is the authority?

Philippians 2:5-11 "Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus..."
@@freeindeed2354 AMEN! Doesn't discredit His real presence, though (which clearly He made known). I do agree with your quote.
