Purgatory. Now, that’s simply a single word for the state/process referred to here. You can think of it as literal fire (though a painful but cleansing fire) or simply as the incredible pain of embarrassment standing before Christ and seeing the result of the wrong you did or did not do and the sorrow caused thereby (the loss of another person who would have been saved if you acted more responsibly?). The Catholics see this literally; the Protestants see it figuratively. Either way, it comes down to the exact same thing. To say that we don’t suffer purgation but simply lose blessings at the judgement seat of Christ when we live irresponsibly is a distinction without a difference. Btw, I enjoy this pastor’s teaching.
