    Great job Forrest!
    27 years ago i built a 22' tall x 24'' OD secondary Tesla Coil that had 1 1/4'' copper primary coil operating at 75 kw input! I got 34' long arcs to the ground with an 80' diameter safe zone around the coil! I had much fun but many in my neighborhood could not watch TV ha ha

    How about half wave on SSTC or QCW? Nice coils btw, you made some neat stuff Forrest, great work.

    Hi
    very impressive
    you put lost work making those coils.
    what is the voltage rating of those capacitors ???
    how you discharge your capacitors ???
    what is a safety spark gap ???
    how you make one ???
    once the vacuum sucks the Ozone what you do with it ???
    some people complains about frying their cameras, phones and any other electronic devices
    how you protect your electronic devices ???
    what size wire are you using ???
    how you make a coil tuner ???
    Thanks.

    Hi - that's a nice looking build, you will need to avoid strikes to the woodwork unless you like the smell of charcoal! Output looks nice too. That static SG with a small cap (small for a pig that is) will never properly cope with the output from the pig so I look forward to seeing similar or even better results when you get that 15/120 NST replaced! I guess that most TC builders will do some of the four stages in the opposite direction to you, so did you learn anything special doing things your way around (electronics first)? Keep up the good work. Thumbs up.

    Quench the spark, with magnets (and nitrogen gas also works)

    Hey Bud. Very impressive, both from a performance as well as an aesthetic viewpoint. I do have one question. What type of ballasting did you employ for the input to your pole pig to replace your dead 15/120 cold cathode/NST?

      Hi Dave, Been a while and hope you are well. Green monster still going? The pole pig I am using is current limited just like Ed Wingates......using the primaries of two small Lincoln arc welders in series while shorting out the secondaries. By switching to different current settings on the welders one can limit the current really quite well. My big RSGTC is run with this on 60 amp tap setting and I am using around 80 amp peak thru it. On my small SGTC I use the same welder setup on tap 20 amp and the TC works just fine. Hope this helps. I am planning on taking my big DRSSTC to roger smiths teslathon on aug.19 in Chillicothe ohio.Bud

    Have you ever tried a bifiller coil for the primary? I'm curious about how it would effect the circuit

    Are you still reading the comments mate - What could I build next - Bi-polar Tesla coil, 3 coil Tesla magnifier coil, Sync rotary spark gap coil, non sync rotary spark gap coil, super series non sync rotary spark gap, all of the above but use a high voltage DC driver, Different power supplies, NST`s, MOT`s, Pole pig, PT`s - and on and on - have fun.

    Could any one tell me why some use flat windings and other cone shape or cylindrical shape? What are the differences? Thanks

    • @newage3
      @newage3 Před 4 lety

      There is not a great deal of difference, the cone shape "might" help to transfer more energy from the primary to the secondary, but the primary/secondary needs to be loosely coupled anyway.

    Hi, im building a tesla coil and need the spark gap to fire at 40khz to get the primary to resonate at natural frequency 24.6mhz. Is there a way i can measure the bps/frequency accurately without damage to the device?

    • @forrestmohrman8768
      @forrestmohrman8768  Před 2 lety

      You are asking for 40,000 brakes per second.....not possible! The primary collapsing field will ring and resonate with the secondary at 40khz. Even if we ring the primary once per second. What we try and do is ring the primary as quickly as possible. If you are using AC line current it will be 60hz. If you are using DC and a rotary spark gap then you can go as fast as you want within reason. The faster you ring it the longer the streamers will get.. Hope this helps
