Joe was working the overnight shift the morning of September 11th 2001... I remember listening to him taking Giant calls after they lost on Monday night in Denver as I fell asleep... As the story goes as Joe told it (if I'm remembering correctly)... He left the station at 5:30 am (before the Imus show) got back to Jersey around 6:30 or 7:00... He went to sleep and didn't know what happened until later that afternoon when his wife called him and woke him up... I also remember listening the next nights show and when he did his trademark Umberto's Clam House commercial he didn't say his usual Umbertooooooooo's Clam House... This Jersey Met fan loves ya Joe & the station won't be the same without ya...

I enjoyed that read! I drove a milk truck during the overnights and listened to Joe for years...I am glad to see he went on to a lucrative and fulfilling career but he was at his best, by himself, during the overnight

I listened to Joe from 1995 to 2003. From the age of 13 to 21. My dad was a big talk radio guy. 710 and 770. I thought Joe was unique. There are moments from his shows that I still reference with my friends to this day. The playing of “Sunday, Bloody Sunday after the Baltimore loss in 2000. The “all Bill’s guys” (referring to who the fumblers were in the AFC championship game against Denver). You mentioned 9/11. I am from Astoria. Remember when WFAN was in Kaufman studios? That night on the air, Joe mentioned how he talk a walk down Steinway street and back, and the feeling was like nothing he had ever felt. I remember that show vividly.
      I enjoyed your comment.
      All the best to you!

I don't say this about sports radio personalities often, but this level of candor really is a gift. Joe's becoming more and more his authentic self on the air as he closes in on his possible retirement. Whatever he decides, God bless. Salute, Joe B.

Let Joe work from home, he has earned it, but only if he does the over nights! 😆 That’s just me being selfish. The best days were the worst days, like after a Jets or Mets big loss. I always had someone who was just a pissed off as I was. Our little community of misery. The good days were great too, even though there wasn’t many. Joes not allowed to retire till the Jets win a Super Bowl.
