- "The Challenge of a Historical Adam: Can Christianity Do Without a First Man?"
Peter Enns, author, "The Evolution of Adam: What the Bible Does and Doesn't Say about Human Origins" and "Inspiration and Incarnation: Evangelicals and the Problem of the Old Testament" - Gordon College - Friday, May 04 2012
solid. love his call to conversation. critical to learning. "come let us reason" - Isaiah 1:18
Very careful exegesis of Genesis, which unfortunately most do not have patience for. It would be much easier to adopt familiar narratives and then protect our prejudices. One may not agree with Enn's conclusions but alternative interpretations ought to be based on similar robust exegetical grounds.
Does anyone know if Pete is part of the Emerging Church Movement?
He sounds a lot like Rob Bell to me.

Great lecture
Very many thanks
Tough crowd.
"Mass theological re-education" Yes
The Creation Myth was designed from earlier Creation Myth stories. It came from Babylon/Sumer Creation Myths. Written in the 2nd exile or 2nd temple period as a polemic to the other Myths.
I can see why this Scholar was dismissed by WTS.

Enns offers an interesting middle ground. He is trying to approach the biblical narrative from a viewpoint where there is an element of "scriptural authority", while realm of science is accepted as real. This contrasts with the approach in which the bible is seen as a collection of writings across 800 years which have no coherence (especially not between the Old and the New Testament) and there is no necessity to find a balance of exegesis between Genesis and Romans.
