- On this episode of Make It Kustom, we build a press form step-by-step to emboss or stamp a Chevy emblem into sheet metal without warping. Sheet metal stamping is a great way to make a complex bead or shape for a patch panel too!

Man I hope you don't get tired of making youtube content. The whole vibe of your channel is awesome, no screaming or silly shenanigans, just awesome skills, and just enough info so that we will all go into the shop and try at least one thing you have shown us.
Thanks Martin I’m really excited that so many are trying some of this stuff. That’s exactly what I’m going for. I appreciate the feedback 👊 we are loving this community
Right
Man I agree 100%! Great content and none of the silly stuff!
@@MakeItKustom I'm just jealous that your lucky enough to get paid to do this stuff for a living. I love your work and that you use handtools cause you realise that's what most of us have at home. I've done a lot of custom work on my 4wd, and even though I regret starting it cause it's still going 10yrs later it's been able to say it's mine and I did it is the cool part.
100% your videos are GOLD
The definition of a great channel is one that you get excited every time a new video pops up because you know that it will be quality stuff.
Your channel 100% represents this definition!
Thanks so much man I’m beyond stoked that everyone is enjoying this!
Mate you are a legend 🤩 I didn’t think you would get around to this so quickly for me, I love it and I will take you up on your very generous offer 👌🏼🤙🏼 thank you heaps for doing this video.
You’re very welcome Timothy! So stoked that you saw the video I will be sending it out this week!
Love this! Awesome video
@@MakeItKustom It would be great to see Tim's car with the emblem installed. Your skills are fantastic Carl!
@@MakeItKustom a year late just found your channel Great Videos ,, I would of asked for 2 of them ..one for the auto 2nd have it signed and hung on the wall of my shop ,, I am a Chevy and Jeep person ,, not knocking other autos ,, but that is fun LOL .. Keep up the Great Videos ,
Did it end up on your car?
I worked in a sheet metal shop 50 years ago, we fabricated and embossed, with basic tools, I really appreciate your metal working skills, and your ability to think your projects through.
Thanks a lot bob ! Love this field of metalwork. There’s a never ending pursuit of knowledge
Hey Bob
I’m amazed, impressed, slightly jealous and thrilled that you’re able to pump these out so often. Thank you for showing me what’s possible. Best of luck to you my friend! 🍻
Thanks a lot! We are having a blast on this platform 👊👊👊
Garage Fab , love your channel. Karl and yourself are so knowledgeable and there is so much that we can learn from you two and have learned, thanks.
Amazing work. Don't feel bad about trying it before you recorded - it shows you care about what you are teaching people, and that you don't want to mislead anyone. It's much appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks for the support! I appreciate that a lot
Embossing AND a burn-out to boot. You guys are THE definition of Kool.
Thanks for all you do.
I'm a blacksmith but you have me wanting to build a rat rod now.
Haha thanks man we are just trying to have as much fun as we can together 🙏🙏 I want to learn blacksmithing!
Only good spirit folks on youtube lately. Blessed by the lockdowns? Great times of evolution ahead. Thanks for your contribution brother!
It's a real pleasure to watch and learn from your videos. I also note that you take the time to acknowledge the comments from your viewers something that very few YT posters do. Also big thanks to your patient camera assistant for capturing all the important shots. Keep the videos coming.
Simply spectacular! 👏👏👏👏 And I LOVE that you, or your wife 😉 equalize the sound, so that when you are running the angle grinder or other tool I don't need to lower the volume 😁😁😁
I can’t believe I haven’t been watching you before now. Full of good ideas.
Thought I watch one episode before I went to bed...darn it... now I want to go out and make a form!.... thanks!!
Making something out of nothing. Nicely done. I have done a few of these over the years. Like you said great for the odd floor pan.
Thank you both for the education
Thanks a lot tony you got the gift for sure keep up the awesome content 👊👊👊
My Grandfather was a master craftsmen tool and die maker.
He told me that a file only cuts in one direction. Don’t drag the file across the metal when pulling back. It just dulls the file faster.
Hard to remember to do that sometimes but I notice it actually works better as well.
yes! the exception is ally, then you drag the file to clear the chips out
@@daos3300 Good point
I left out the part where my grandfather would tap the file gently on the edge of a non critical part to clear the chips. He was very particular and his work reflected that.
I’m sure that gently pulling the file backwards would also do the job without damaging anything.
I’m sure all the above is relative to the material being worked and the force applied. Gentle is a subjective term.
Put chalk on your file.
Your grandfather is right I only put pressure in one direction but I probably should lift the file to save it’s sharpness. Thanks both of you for the tips!
@@danielrunge7294 that too
Your videos are amazing I've just been in total awe using old school techniques even for us 63 year old newbies!!! Thank you so much.
Awesome man stoked you are learning from it!
Sweet little example of a die! Really enjoy your teachings for everyone at home!
I really enjoy watching and listening to your work and explanation's Karl. Just the way you always come across with a happiness in your soul...:)
Great to hear Bobby! Glad you are enjoying the content
Great channel clean no bs just to the facts " the teaching ". You have a great channel at my age, I still do enjoy watching you. Thanks for the lesson. Great video thanks 😊
Thanks Jose I appreciate this a lot! I Anjou making this content. My wife and I are loving this
After a hard day's work, I literally relax to these videos 👍
That’s awesome man glad to hear it!
Love watching a young guy keep the skills going for the generations to come.
Thanks rod !
Karl , you blow my mind ! That’s awesome. Thanks for the lesson.
My pleasure dude!
Thanks for always showing an alternative ways to do things without utilizing expensive tools! You really help me (and many others I assume) to stay creative despite of all my limited access to tools.
Cheers!
You’re so welcome! Thanks for supporting the channel!
Appreciate you passing along your skills.
👊👊👊
100% good enough.
I like that expression!
Who are the two plugs that disliked this. This is good info
Ah man there’s always a few but it’s all good 👍
Great project, a little lube will help a lot with press forming.
Great idea!
Where would you put that lube? Between the press die and sheet or on both sides?
@@kristoffer-robinlotze7273 I would apply a lube to both sides, I would also as Karl mentioned soften the sharp edges on the die portion to stop cutting the pressed piece and if cutting still happens may need to increase clearance slightly between the punch and die pieces.
Awesome material! I always loved fab work!
You are a awesome fabricator.. respect
Really enjoy watching your creations. Would it make sense to have an inner/lower die, as well? Maybe it would sharpen the finished product and allow you to get as deep as you want without cutting the metal? Thanks again for sharing your work.
Yes if I made a lower die than me you’re at the top would do a better job
Love the videos but I wish you used the grinder with the guard fitted as most people do not have anywhere near the skills you have with dangerous tools!
Very good point and for my own safety I should probably have one on there because you never know
Each adult should choose based on their comfort and skill what protective equipment they use. Some of that stuff actually gets in the way and makes it more dangerous. Ever tried to make precision grinds with a guard on?
From Bad Chad land... your stuff is golden. I hope you never get tired of making these videos... great content. Keep up the great work Fisher
Mini bike burnout bonus 😎👍👍"Gangster"
She’s a badass haha
I would value a skull with horns wearing a helmet much more than a bow tie.
Make it happen!
You are a fantastic teacher
I love it! Really appreciate that you take the extra time to use the tools that us regular folk are limited to. Thanks a lol 👍🏾
one of the things that I like most about your channel, Karl, is that you always demonstrate there are a lot of things you can do with some common tools for projects. Great videos, man!
Beautiful logo ! Bow Ties, great name for a bar!
You're awesome dude. Thanks for your generosity in sharing your knowledge.
My pleasure man thanks for watching cheers!
Workshop !A man s paradise !

Right on mike! That’s all I can hope for haha
Great work. Entertaining videos. Thank you. I may have to make one for my 1964 Chevy C10 Fleetside.
This channel is going to blow up once it hits the algorithm!
That would be awesome!
Come out beautiful.
I really appreciate that you showed how to built the dies using simple tools. Most of us have access to a grinder & welder and know someone with a press, but have never attempted to do what you just demonstrated. Thank you for the step by step procedure. Your videos are awesome.
I’m digging on all your content. Great job.
So glad this great vid (and others) exist and came up just in time, it’s given me confidence to do a one off job I’m doing. Thanks

I think your videos are amazing I like watching them I'm learning a lot keep it up
I just love when you show mistakes and then explain how to fix them. Thats the problem with a lot of videos. We all make mistakes, learn from them. Thanks for sharing
Awesome work!!
Excelente trabajo.Gracias
Really appreciate how you treat your viewers as individuals. You answered a question for me too personally a while back, and I haven’t forgotten. Many thanks, and keep on.

Thanks for that’s I appreciate it!
That is impressive learn alot from your videos so entertaining
You could be a jeweler like me. Been in business for 35 years. Awesome work!!
Great job what an awesome talent you have !! I really enjoy watching you making tools and showing how to fabricate things with all of todays special tools and cad stuff the hands on approach is becoming a lost art .It's sad the don't teach things like this in metal shop anymore ,you still need to know how to do things the old school way gives so much more appreciation for something you built yourself. Keep up the videos and the good work ..Thank you !!
As a fellow fabricator it’s so noce to learn things and advance my craft as well, you guys are really doing some nice stuff and appricite the authenticity and sharing, no ego juts honest awesome content from genuine good humans . Appricte and genuinely love y’all. Thank you much
talented hands, mind, eyes. very inventive. As always, an honor to see your work and have your teachings.. thanks!!!!!!
Thanks also much Thomas 🙏
But first, minibike burnout! Dude, you rock. Love your videos. Lotta creators on CZcams, not as many good teachers like you. Keep it up bro. Lotta people wanna learn but don't wanna go to school. Sometimes all it takes it someone to show u it CAN be done.
Looks great!
Super excited I found your channel. I love fabricating. And there’s always cool trucks n tips. Makes me really want to start testing the extent of my skills, and learning new ones.
Right on man I’m stoked you found us to welcome to the channel!
I appreciate your time and knowledge
Thanks so much man
Excellent video, Thank you.
You’re most welcome!
This is one of the most useful videos I've seen in some time. Thanks for the hard work!
You’re most welcome!
I really like that you take your viewers into consideration when doing How-To vids. Can’t tell you how many I’ve turned off when the guy walks over to the lathe or mill. Huge thumbs up!!
Thanks man yea we love the community here and the viewers are who these videos are for so we must never lose sight of that
Very cool, thanks for sharing the idea, very useful I’m sure for many out there
You’re Welcome! I used these a lot
Another awesome video!! Thank you!!

dude your hand skills are crazy !
Awesome work. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and showing how you made it happen. Stretch from NZ
You must welcome and thank you so much cheers!
Great content mate, the channel is great, no annoying music to cover the info.
Always something new and interesting, thanks
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
When you started this video I wondered whether you would offer the result to the person that asked the question! Very cool that you offered to send him the panel for free!
Good job on your fabrication work. Especially making and embossing the most sacred emblem: the Chevy bowtie.
100% good enough 🤣But on a serious note it is good to see some who will not only use basic tools but show how to do it and yes thinking out side the box . So many times we put off doing something because we do not have the special tools required for it I myself have been guilty of this as are many of us . You have a gift for teaching with your down to earth explanations be it online but I am sure if you offered classes to teach metal forming you would get people who would want your classes. As I mentioned in another post I did a back to back classes with Lazze he is a very good teacher and even though it would piss me off as how he made it look so easy 😁but I have much respect for him and I am sure you would be a very good teacher in a class situation you have a wealth of knowledge to impart on those willing to learn
Stellar work. Every video you amaze me with your talent and ability to explain how it. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Dennis!
