Overnight Jet Boating And Hunting Trip

- We didn't find any deer or trout ( we decided to blame the full moon ) but the boating side of things is well worth a watch for those of us that are into that sort of thing.
If you know the spot you already know it, If you figure it out good on you but don't ask for specifics please.
I am aware that this is a special spot to many and the last thing you want is Jet boats thrashing the place, I made sure we did this trip mid week, high flow and boating outside of prime hunting hours.

What a beautiful river
I spent the end of the video hoping we were going to see you get the Hilux up that wee slope from water. It looked super steep on the way in, and the tires were sliding, so I was thinking that might be a challenge. Looks like I was wrong! My first experience on a jet boat was with Wilderness Jet coming off the Dart track. He picked us up on a flat and wide section of the river, but around the very first bend we hit Cathedral Rocks and gaps that looked too small for the boat. He went through sideways and I laughed all the way to Glenorchy. It remains one of my best ever memories.

Yeah we took the other track on the way out just to be safe, had the winch and the other Hilux as back up though.

Cheers Cam, this one is built by wattscraft down Queenstown way. Heaps of different hulls around and you just drop a JetSki setup into them. This has a Yamaha wave raider 701cc 2 stroke in it, pretty light on the power side of things but cheap to run and goes places the big boats can’t.

Yeah bro its a hard one, even when the drones on tracking it often looses the boat or gets dangerously close to trees. I’ll try better 😅 way easier on a bigger river.

I meant how deep is the boat in the water, what draft do you guess at when going full tilt?
Sorry mate, yeah draft at full speed would be 100-150mm . You can go real shallow for short periods and just try to slide into deeper pools.
Knee deep water to get it up and going to start with.

@@Muzz308 Up here in Alberta Canada the mosquitoes are so big we trap them Conibear traps.. Mini 110 s but those f ing sandflies I have no idea how to rid yourself of those flies. They don't make traps that small. lol

No one can afford to spend the $2.5k per person to travel down, fly in , 10 days supply’s Piss up in Queenstown etc only to find a pile of rotting carcasses in there favourite valley. $2.5k x 4 hunters is $10k that will not be stimulating the economy.
To manage a resource like Tahr/Deer/pigs etc it comes down to land area vs stocking rates.
How many animals can the area sustain without damaging the eco system, what is the annual increase of the herd, now what needs to be culled each year to maintain the balance.
DOCs current management = to kill as many as you can when you can get funding
