  • On today's show we talk about "How to RV Travel With Pets and Keep Them Safe". With more and more people on the road, it seems us Nomads ALL have pets. But what's up with pet etiquette and why are so many RVers just letting their pets off leash lately? We also share the real reason why National Parks don't allow pets on trails. And a piece of gear that alerts you via text message the temp in your rig if you have to leave your pet inside your rig. Also we share some tips on how to keep your pets safe. We want to know if you travel with Pets and if you have seen an increase in bad behavior both with pets and their owner's NOT cleaning up after them.

You brought up some good points. I am a dog trainer of 30 plus years. I have adopted an older dog who is absolutely lovely with people but is extremely reactive to dogs. I abhor people who have dogs off leash in campgrounds as they rush up to us causing my dog to either attack the dog or bite me. He is a work in progress and everytime this happens our training takes a stepback. I cannot count the number of times that people say "oh, don't worry my dog is friendly" as it rushes up to us and a dog fight occurs.
Well guess what mine is not!!! Not to mention the friendly dogs also jump up on me, and slobber all over my clothes. There are too many first time dog owners with unsocialized untrained dogs because of covid. Now I always walk in campgrounds with a walking stick and if your unleashed dogs runs up to me and continues to approach after I've yelled NO GET AWAY. I will use it to protect myself and my dog. I've had other dogs who were in the process of being trained as service dogs attacked by an off leash dogs. And guess what after all the money and time spent breeding, training, not to mention the person waiting for their dog for years some of the dogs became reactive and could no longer be used in the program. So please people, keep your dogs on leash, train them to be quiet in campgrounds, pick up after them or you will ruin vacationing with pets for everyone.

I have been frustrated when trails don’t allow dogs but I get it. I would be devastated if something happened to Princess! Great traveling with pets tips!

Thank you 🙏 We’ve seen a big uptick in dogs 🐕 off leash. In fact zero dogs on leash in Cooke. Strange.

Great video, people need to realize that wildlife is "Wild"! Just because you are viewing wildlife in a National "Park" doesn't mean it's domesticated. Always be safe & aware of what's going on around you.

YES!! This is one of the major reasons Elly and I stopped walking/hiking, other dogs off leash! I’ve trained her well w professional trainers, but what are we supposed to do when off leash dogs rush her in the street or trail?? She’s a pit that will defend herself and me to her last breath, but would almost always be blamed simply because of her breed. So many stories to tell, yikes

On the other hand, I do seek out places of solitude to run her at playing frisbee once a week or so, usually a cemetery. But I’m VERY careful to make sure we’re alone.

Yep. Had the same issue. Dogs running at Dino unleashed.. And it was a popular trail with lots of other hikers.

I have the same concern re: my dog, who is also the most loving, mushy, gotta give you tons of kisses all over Pittie. He thinks everyone is nice, but if he gets the wrong vibe from someone, he’ll defend me. He won’t go on offense, but he WILL go on defense. I’ve had a dog my entire adult life and I’ve trained each to be Good Citizens, BUT … you just never know. It’s important to think of others, just in case. My boy is ALWAYS on a leash. Always, except when we’re in the house/camper or a fenced dog run. Doing so is also thinking and caring for your dog. All of our rights and freedoms are compromised when others don’t consider others. It’s really frustrating.
