  • Re profiling a profiled skate has the skate blade's "lowest point" inserted into the AS 2001 machine on the tooling reference brass rolls/balls. (old/new machines) In a re profile with a pitched template the sledge/sled is moved the pitch dimension. This video explains why this is required. It maybe not be obvious thus there are many several clips in this long video. Many of the Quad/Zuperior/Ellipse templates have a -20mm pitch dimension. This means the lowest part of the blade is 20mm towards the heel from the skate blade centerline. This happens after profiling new steel, or when buying high end quad skates from Bauer.

This is very informative. You do an excellent job explaining this, which can be very confusing.

Just what I needed. I have a SSM Profil machine and i was trying to profile steel that was already profiled with Prosharp Quad I.

Great information. What about if you want to change the profile back from a pitched profile to a profile with a neutral pitch? Do you have to compensate in the other direction of the original pitch to bring the blade back to neutral?

Thank you for this explanation. Question, IF you missed this 20 mm going from Ellipse 1 to superior m, what do you do then?
