I just ordered one based on the reviews I've been watching. I currently own quite a few gmrs and a couple ham radios that I've unlock to be able to transmit on the gmrs channels. In a real world test given where I am located, lots and lots of mountains and hills and trees in the way,I have gotten up to 4.6 miles on radio to radio communications which is nothing short of a miracle here. They are very useful for family comms be it camping, hiking, hunting, ect, ect but also, and probably the most important for us is having some sort of comms if the cell towers and or internet go down. Even if only for short distances radio to radio, some comms is much better than zero comms in a shtf senerio. P.s, also you can program gmrs channels into that radio with a code so it would also give some extent of privacy while transmitting.
