So as a little experiment, I decided to try and see how much candela I would lose if I put a circle of dc-fix directly in the middle of the optic. I've done this on some other lights, in order to smooth out beam profile rings, and not totally destroy all of your candela.
It took a 21mm circle of dc-fix, in order to smooth out the ring that the LLC59R optic was producing. You can actually still see a faint ring in the video when it shines up along my garage wall siding. I could have gone with a little larger diameter of dc-fix, in order to totally eliminate it, but in actual use, I have to intentionally look for that faint ring, and it's not very noticeable. (I also didn't want to lose any more candela by adding a larger circle of dc-fix)
I forgot to test this configuration, when I was videoing my candela tests, but I did measure it's candela later on. I measured
181,161cd. / 851m as an average value within the first five seconds, after initial turn on.
All in all, it's a neat little trick that does work to smooth out rings, and not affect the intensity of your hotspot too much. In the end though, I'm OK with, and just left the LLC59R optic as it was, with no dc-fix attached, since I wanted this particular light as a compact pocket thrower with maximum attainable output.
