    • @Max-dt3yx
      @Max-dt3yx Před 2 lety +7

      @@alchemilk Exactly, but it has problems like how come he literally doesn't have a single relevant dialogue with Mj, like, this is the basis of the interest of one person in another, a basic concept of the script and they simply force us to think that it's normal to look at each other and let's date, out of nowhere, with no development, no effective appeal, nothing and this only makes us see Mj as a strange, annoying and inconvenient character, with no background, no motivations, empty, like a video game NPC based only on stereotypes

    • @alchemilk
      @alchemilk Před 2 lety +9

      @@Max-dt3yx yeah I definitely agree with the lacklustre backstory, but I think they established pretty well why Peter is interested in her, she's a smart person but snarky and sarcastic, she has her own interests, shes asocial and resorts to her interests in weird and dark history as a defence mechanism, but Peter doesn't see it as an exception in the pursue, stuff like that is the reason he likes her, she stands up for people, she is, and dare I say this, different, she is very different from normal characters in movies and television. But something you also have to consider is that these two are very very awkward, it makes sense for the viewer to not understand her backstory because even Peter doesn't, they're friends but they still have trouble talking about anything that is school, or MJ's defence mechanism. If they refuse to dive deeper into her backstory and establish interests then I will absolutely understand where you're coming from, but I just understood that we don't know a ton because Peter doesn't know a ton. I also don't think she is annoying, she is one of the most realistic people I've ever seen on screen, they didn't shy away from weird interests, or activism, or hobbies, or disinterests. She simply doesn't bother anyone, she is sarcastically mean at the worst and that is just not proper due for being annoying for me, but to be fair that is personal opinion by far, and I am lucky it worked for me, since I have a different history so my perception of characters differs.

      @@alchemilk Dude wtf I am not a native American no bro it was hard to understand you😂😂
      , bit i go what you mean, but my focus is not her background, it's simply the dialogues, when you try to talk to someone and they answer you in a sarcastic way at an extreme level, the natural tendency is to move away, however that's ok, it's just a way of being and I agree, but the conversations don't evolve, There is no reason for him to want to connect with her except for the "unknown" only that was never the motto of spidey's relationships, and once you know and remember how Pete and MJ are not only a beautiful couple but also a team, a gossip company, a safe port and that it flows so naturally in the comic that it's hard to get used to such discomforting conversations, sometimes even uncomfortable, you know, and many times the few cracks that she has are evasive like the one where she says "oh my friends call me mj" "didn't you say you have no friends? "I don't have any friends" and I'm like, she didn't even say a word during the trip, so in what the fuck universe do they just come back from a zero developed trip and that's it, they are my friends, man it's funny but she literally doesn't exchange ideas with ANYONE in the movie and I know it seems too forced but at least sometimes the movie needs to show us how the interaction with the characters is, I don't need to know her family or anything like that, but if during that walk they talk about life, she talks about her insecurity when interacting with people or her apparent low self-esteem (because for the love of God they managed to make Zendaya weird, that's impressive) and he opens up too, you know, but it seems that the movie is too blcokbuster, too mainstreming for that, when I see TAMS I see a MOVIE (with a bunch of mistukes) , when I see Homecoming or FarFromHome even though I love them I see a simple spiderman adventure with little depth. And at the same time what makes me buy the idea and what makes me frustrated is the fact that she is VERY, VERY good, I watched Euphoria and it didn't even look like the same actress, the level of personality she manages to get makes Mj look like another person, so as I am a big fan (not a silly fan but I think they are very good at what they do and apparently sympathetic) I end up liking it and you also end up liking it, but this becomes very personal to our own perspective, I have my specific reasons and you have your specific reasons but you must agree that in other circumstances it would be very difficult to find this cool couple, but as for example Peter and Gwen from TAMS is easily related, Because it has a great script and a great chemistry, it has this thing of liking the person because he/she is different, also in the adolescence it is common to fall in love easily after all, but it can't happen in the second movie if not the greatest superhero of all, like from my favorite hero I always expect the best, but you can get some good laughs from these movies after all. I really wish that from no way home it enters a new phase, with a new tone and with them being (dont hate me) a real couple....

    • @alchemilk
      @alchemilk Před 2 lety +4

      @@Max-dt3yx yeah I get what you're saying but I am gonna bring you back to my original point, the movie isnt about her, how are we supposed to see character development from a character that was intentionally avoided, the bulk of the trip Peter is stuck in the storage container and trying to find his way back, they aren't analyzing MJ's role, plus I still dont think its fair to judge their immediate relationship, in NWH I think its fair but they have just gotten together, and in the later parts of FFH and NWH we already see improved chemistry. Although I loved GWen adn Peters chemistry in TASM movies, I absolutely hated the relationship, because literally everything they talked about went on for way too long and consisted of mostly inhuman noises, I barely at all knew what they were talking about, people dont really talk with grunts and male model faces (although I love Emma stone and Andrew, I think they did great with what they were given but they were given shit)

I think everyone is forgetting the age factor. Of course he isn’t going to be swinging expertly or winning every fight. He is fifteen and I think the way marvel handled the age was brilliant because we see him making mistakes we see him getting punished in the way a kid would we see him having to figure out how to be Spider-Man on his own and that’s what makes this movie so much better because Spider-Man is a dynamic character by the end of it. In the raimi films they had Peter Parker looking YEARS older than he should and since they had already botched the youth of the character they decided to make him a master at swinging and combat. I think that’s where a lot of nostalgia comes from. You want to see the iconic Spider-Man swinging from skyscrapers but what you see is a kid learning about himself and his powers and dealing with them how a modern kid would. I personally love how they portrayed him and I think it was the best portrayal so far.

      Random Rice
      Chocolate chip cookies are considered by some to be one of the best types of cookies around. If you're looking for a chewy cookie rather than a crunchy one, you will love the cookies made following this recipe. The secret to their chewiness is the brown sugar, which miraculously increases the moisture content of the cookie. [1]
      This recipe makes approximately 2 dozen medium sized cookies.
      Ingredients
      Edit
      1 cup white sugar (201 grams / 7.1 ounces)
      ⅓ cup brown sugar (73 grams / 2.5 ounces)
      ½ teaspoon salt
      1 ½ eggs (decreasing egg yolk amounts creates optimized lightness and fluffy texture to the dough)
      1 cup of butter (between refrigerator and room temperature) (227g/8oz)
      2 ¼ cups of flour (adapt this for elevation and humidity as needed, make sure the cups are level) (288 grams / 10 ounces)
      1 teaspoon of baking soda
      1 teaspoon vanilla extract
      2 tablespoons milk
      2 cups of chocolate chips (if small, less if large)
      Steps
      Edit
      Image titled Make Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies Step 1
      1
      Preheat the oven to 350ºF/180ºC.
      2
      Add the vanilla, sugar, brown sugar, eggs, and butter to a bowl.
      Use coarser sugar for thicker, chewier cookies. When sugar dissolves, it acts as a tenderizer that interferes with dough structure. This increases spreading because finer sugar dissolves more easily than coarser sugar. So if you want your cookies to remain thick and chewy, use coarse sugar (or use fine sugar for the opposite effect). If you decide to use powdered sugar for extra crispiness, make sure it doesn't have corn starch in it, or you'll get unexpected results.[2]
      Mix these ingredients together until creamy.
      3
      Whisk flour, salt, and baking soda into another bowl.
      4
      Mix dry and wet ingredients until fully blended, without over-mixing. Add the milk to achieve a smoothly blended dough. There shouldn't be any clumps of flour or lumps of butter. Make sure all the ingredients are evenly distributed through your dough. After blending the mixture, add the chocolate chips. Mix them in.[3]
      5
      Apply cooking spray to a pan so that the cookies won't stick to the baking pan. Alternatively, line the pan with wax paper.
      6
      Take a small quantity of your cookie dough and roll it in you hands into a ball shape. The ball will flatten when cooked so try to visualise the size of your finished cookie when you form the balls of dough. Make 24 balls of dough.
      7
      Place the cookie balls on the baking pan.
      8
      Flatten each cookie dough ball with a fork. This will leave distinct ridges and flatten the cookie neatly.
      9
      Put cookies in the oven for about 8-10 minutes. Don't overdo the cooking, as they'll continue to cook for a short while after you remove them from the oven.[4]
      Image titled Make Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies Step 10
      10
      Take the cookies out of the oven and let them sit on a wire cooling rack for about 15 minutes to cool. Be careful not to burn yourself on the melted chips when transferring the cookies to the rack - use a spatula. The cookies are ready to eat when the chocolate chips solidify again.[5]
      11
      Store in an airtight container or eat the cookies once they're cooled.[6]

    I was hesitant to watch this movie because.. c'mon, ANOTHER Spiderman movie? We already have FIVE. Do I really need to watch Uncle Ben die again? I ended up watching this with my sister when she came down to visit and we had a blast. There was another reviewer who pointed something out to me: in the first Spiderman movies, nobody cared about Peter Parker. Every time he was on screen, the audience was just waiting for the costume to come back on. But in Homecoming, I cared about Peter as much, if not more, than Spiderman. I *wanted* Peter to get the girl, to have fun with his friends, to live the life of a teenager. And having a young actor really worked. Having Peter under that rubble, crying out for help, my mother instincts kicked in, and I really got into this scene. So watching him push the concrete off by sheer force of will, I was nearly cheering in the theatre. Fuck yeah. While a part of me will always love Toby McGuire's Spiderman, this is the Spiderman I was waiting for. =3

      I'mma going have to disagree with you on that people care about Tom Holland just because he's cute. Toby McGuire is cute (whoo, that shirtless scene~) and Andrew Garfield has a ~nice~ butt. But times have changed since the first spiderman movie. Our perception of a "nerd' has changed. Peter Parker in the first spiderman movie was a total nerd with glasses, getting picked on by stereotypical bullies, clumsy, and totes not popular. I've seen that type of nerd character in movies long before Tom Holland was even born. The Peter Parker in Homecoming is unpopular, a dork, awkward, but this is due to his being young and inexperienced. Toby McGuire's Peter was a nerd character. Tom Holland's is a teen character. Honestly my favorite Peter moment would be with Garfield when he violently acts out after Uncle Ben dies, and Flash talks him down. In fact, it's the only thing I remember from those movie. =P But hey, ya don't gotta agree with me. It's cool.

      Are you willing to share a discussion with this? Because I do, I don't hate Holland's version of Spiderman, in fact I enjoyed his movies, they're very entertaining to watch, however IMO his characterization has to be the worse I've seen in Spiderman films, his version of Spidey is basically Ironboy, not *The Spider-Man* ,its not his acting that puts me off(Holland actually does a good job) but the way his version of Spiderman is written, his characterization is the thing that puts me off, he feels like a sidekick, not a hero of his own, a Miles Morales kind of character, a side character, the thing that made it worse is that he was mentored by Ironman, so he's portrayed as a pathetic noob instead of being able to get good at superheroing on his own, plus his Uncle Ben is basically non-existent, there's barely any reference or whatsoever about him except the suitcase thing in FFH, his version of Spiderman doesn't give a damn about Uncle Ben, Ben Parker is a very important key character on why Spiderman is well, Spiderman.

      @@gelothegogang Good points, but all those points shouldn't be limits on what kind of character Spider-Man is. Limiting the idea of who Spider-Man is, it starts up many kinds of controversies.
      Retelling the same story over and over, will only make him less likeable over time. And it has been a long time, and we've seen it done in various ways, there's not much better ways to do it again.
      Changing who Spider-Man is, shouldn't make him less of a character. It just means there's much more to see in him than before. You shouldn't forget that others can, and will see heroes differently than the way you do.
      Spider-Man, just like all heroes, shouldn't be a certain way.

      @@Green_Justice5389 I'm not asking for a replay of Uncle Ben's death if that's what you're thinking, its not about retelling a story, its about being faithful to the character's origin story, a simple mention/reference on Ben Parker on how it impacts Spiderman on why he chooses to continue to be Spiderman and why he does what he does would be nice, Ben Parker to Spiderman is the equivalent of Thomas and Martha Wayne to Batman on why Batman is being Batman, and taking that away is like ripping off one of the important aspects on why it makes that character so great. I think the Spiderman that actually works for me when it comes accurate characterization is The Spectacular Spiderman and The Insomniac Version of Spiderman, Tom Holland doesn't feel like *The Spiderman* for me, the way his version of Spiderman is written felt like a Miles Morales kind of character. A sidekick, a side character, not a hero of his own, atleast that's how I feel about the character.

      He wants to prove that he can do the right thing to someone he looks up to, and Ben wasn't the only one he looked up to. Being a sidekick isn't bad either, and this is the first time he's worked with other heroes in live-action. It shows that he's willing to be a hero, no matter what.

MCU basically took away a chunk of Spiderman character the moment they dismissed the existence of Uncle Ben and his involvement to Spiderman. Don't get me wrong I still enjoy Holland's Spiderman films as they are still entertaining but when it comes characterization, its the worst I've seen.

    When I first saw Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the civil war trailer, I was confused and annoyed. I figured “Oh God, ANOTHER Spider-Man?” And this was back when I wasn’t a big Spider-Man fan. Years went by and I never saw homecoming. I passed on it. Why? Well I kept seeing all these memes and reviews saying Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man was better and this guy sucked, so I bought into that. I started to hate Tom’s Spider-Man because I listened to the Raimi purists. But then I decided “Ya know what? I’m gonna watch the movie and make the decision myself whether or not he’s good.” Keep in mind I grew up with the Raimi and TASM movies, so I naturally thought no one could top Toby. But lo and behold, I watched homecoming, and I realized this was my favorite Spider-Man movie, let alone Spider-Man incarnation, mostly because of the high school relatability. Much like Peter in these movies, I wasn’t universal hated, heck I had a bunch of friends, but to me it always seemed like I was excluded from stuff because of the “We would have invited you, you probably wouldn’t like it” response. But yeah, regardless I began to love this movie and wanted more. I can’t believe all the hate from Sam Raimi purists over Tom held me back from watching my favorite Spider-Man film.

After the whole movie of relating with him. It torn my heart apart. I can't remember when comics book movie had me feel like that the last time. First Iron Man was probably closest. If I had to choose two films out of this genere for people to archive, it would be Iron Man 1 and this. Loved it so much, second screening is a must.

    I just saw the movie last night and I agree with most of what Marcus points out in his video. The movie felt new, but still like the Spider-Man we all know. Now I didn't expect Tom Holland to be as good of a spider-man as he was, but I'm glad he proved me wrong. I went into the theater with low hopes and expectations; since trailers and ads spoiled a bit of the movie. When the movie was over like Marcus said, "I felt like I wanted more." SPOILERS DEAR READER!!! Ned Leeds, Peter's best friend in my opinion felt like the most genuine and funny character in the whole movie even better than Tom Holland. Best scene from Ned IMO was when he gets caught using the computer lab during prom. What he says to cover up what he was really doing is that he was looking at porn! I was a little surprised but okay with them adding little things like curse words, a middle finger, and aunt May being a god damn milf! Good Vid!

He was fun and lovable and really made us grow to love him and Peter fighting through high school. He and the writers play him off perfectly. I love it when he finds out who Peter is and keeps nagging him with stupid questions, probably more than others. It just seems like such a genuine moment that I still remember it vividly. Especially when he's at the computers too, helping Peter. It doesn't come off as a snarky one liner, more like an awkward teen trying to process all the information in a social setting, and it's amazing. Good job Jacob Batalon.

    I also love the scene when Peter is trapped under this debris and his first instinct is to call for help. In this movie, he is 15 years old and I think it's relatable that a younf teenager would cry for help. I love the moment when he realizes what Tony meant by this "If you're nothing without the suit then you shouldn't have it.". He understands that nobody can hear him and nobody will come for him and that he has to free himself because he is Spider-man even if he doesn't have the expensive suit Tony made for him.

    What really ruined your favorite scene towards the end of the movie, the debris lifting scene, was when they played the really cheesy Tony Stark echo in Peter's head. How great would it have been to communicate it all purely through better directing and Holland's acting? Show, don't tell. They couldn't trust the audience enough to piece it together for themselves so they had to throw in the unintentionally cheesy echo in Peter's head.
    "HEY GUYS, REMEMBER THIS QUOTE FROM EARLIER IN THE MOVIE????!!!! NO? WELL, HERE IT IS AGAIN!"
    The scene also would have benefitted from some wider shots to better communicate the scale of the debris that fell on Peter. It really irked me how the director kept the same closeup shot for such a long portion of the scene.

      The Gaming Nerd No, it's perfectly fair criticism since the scene is supposed to be a serious moment. The audience isn't supposed to facepalm or cringe during that scene, they're supposed to be swept up in the moment, cheer the hero on, and rejoice when he succeeds. The cartoon-level cheese is just flat-out immersion breaking - that's the _last_ thing you want this scene to be. My second point about wider shots? Sure, someone could probably make the case for nitpicking. But that unintentional, immersion breaking cheese? Ain't no one gonna justify that. Poor choice on the filmmaker's part for a scene with so much potential.

    • @moviec8167
      @moviec8167 Před 7 lety +6

      Duwang Is Unbreakable Well it's a direct reference to the older cheesy comics of the 60s. Any other movie it would've sucked but since it's a good reference point that connects to the plot I love it. Hey some cheese is necessary - look at the raimi films and it's nice campus cheesiness!
      Agree with you on the shot point though - a wider shot would've definitely helped. Same thing in the Washington tower scene

    • @phothewin6019
      @phothewin6019 Před 7 lety +3

      Speedbot2000 The issue is that the moment is not supposed to be cheesy (even if it references something from an era of cheese). It's a serious, powerful, and emotional moment. It would've been a good reference point that connects to the plot regardless of the cheesy Tony Stark echo.
      And now that you mention it, yeah, the Washington scene could have used some wider shots as well.

    I think the new era of mcu Spider-Man movies works so well because Spider-Man is already a notorious character. Spidey is similar to Batman in the way that you can enjoy the Dark Knight without knowing anything else about Batman. He is already a notorious Superhero so there is no reason to put his character in the perspective of the MCU. Stepping back from the MCU and giving Spider-Man movies a different vibe is why this works. The fact that it separates itself from the major plotlines of MCU movies (save a few short remarks) is really nice and refreshing.

People are hating on him because he's not as mature and doesn't have the same problems as Raimi's Spidey did. Why trash this Peter instead of waiting till he's done in the MCU? It's very possible he'll get another trilogy set in college and then another one when he's an adult. Then we will be able to judge him and compare.

  • @sheisthemanheisthewoman4016

    SPOILERS FOR THE END OF SPIDER-MAN PS4!!!
    The comic you mentioned in the comics with Spidey and doc ock is also REALLY well portrayed in Spider Man PS4. Peter knows that he needs to save aunt may, and, even when his web shooters are gone, which was his most useful tool in the boss fight, he still overcame it and beat him. And then he knew that he had to leave Otto Octavius. And at the end, when he had what he needed to save aunt may, but did what he needed to do to save thousands of people instead of the person closest to him was heartbreaking but also really powerful. What I really appreciate in the Tom Holland Spidey movies is:
    1. It always annoyed me how Flash picks on Peter. Because, jocks don't actually randomly pick on people. They stay in their own groups, Peter would be with his science geeks and Flash with his sports friends. Perhaps a few comments, but that's it. But here Peter and Flash are often together and share common interests, so you actually get that Flash is picking on Peter cause he is jealous. That makes way more sense and is actually relatable.
    2.: I. LOVE. that Peter Parker is actually a child in these movies and is absolutely allowed to be one. I mean, he's barely 15. In the other movies, Spidey just wasn't a teenager and I really missed that, because he was supposed to be. Like, the scene where he screams for help with a breaking voice. How he is always really careful not to hurt anyone, despite his strength. How he talkes to criminals and how he thinks of the world (you deserve your melted ice cream, Mr. Criminal. I'll put a note on this bike and leave it here, then the owner can safely get it)
    That emphasizes, how young Peter is and for me, that has always been a really important part of Spiderman. And now, we can slowly watch him grow into that role, but still give him the time to play with Legos or share a first awkward kiss. Peter Parker just feels so real.
