I lived through the times when that album came out and completely missed it except for the single Time of the Season. I recently discovered it while looking back trying to find the songs that weren't hits back then. I listen to a lot of "Odyssey and Oracle" and a lot of music from the band Love. Especially "Forever Changes"
The Zombies were ahead of their time. And it is a shame that they didn’t have access to recording equipment available today. The keyboard player is Todd Argent who went on to further success with his next band ‘Argent’. Among their hits was Hold Your Head Up which you might like to sample. The lead singer is Colin Blunstone who also went on to further success as a solo artist and with the Alan Parsons Project.
One Zombies song that didn’t chart like the other three was “I Love You”. Check that one out if you get the chance - it was covered by a group called The People, and that version did chart.
Yes, The People... with Larry Norman fronting the band until he went solo and fathered Christian Rock. I Love You is a beautiful song., either version works.
Jamel...it dawned on me today while watching this that you will absolutely LOVE The Grateful Dead's song Brokedown Palace! Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul. ✌️
Thanks for the reaction to this song! You certainly picked the right video on it as well! The album was released in 1968, enough said with the "suburban style" and "hippie generation" shown for the song. Take care, be safe - Peace!
One of my favorite stories is that there was a promoter in Texas that had a fake Zombies band touring. Just some random musicians that he said were The Zombies. Two of those band members were two of the guys from ZZ Top.
Parliament instead of Funkadelic. I know it's practically the same group and I get 'em mixed up all the time myself but it makes it easier to find the actual song. And yeah, Jamel, more P-Funk would be awesome and this'd be a great one to see you react to. 'Everybody's got a little light, under the sun!'. And Bernie Worrell really takes the keyboards to hyperspace on that one.
My favorite bit of these reactions is: Pause video/audio, get close to camera, tilt glasses, wag finger, "You guys". Thank you for doing what you're doing. And watching, I'm learning some dance moves for a Fish Fry.
This is one of those super-ironic tales from the 60's - The Zombies had already broken up when their record company released "Time of the Season" as a single. The band's biggest hit was posthumous. Here's a request from the same period: Tommy James & the Shondells "Crimson and Clover" (but ONLY if you do the long (5:38) version - the single edit (3:28) is radio-format butchery at its worst).
The late 60's and early 70's was just a great time of peace, love and self expression. People were so free and expressive it was just FUN pure plain and simple. Now everything is just too stuffy and loaded with bullshit it isn't funny. You just cannot say what's on your mind without offending someone in any way shape or form.
I remember in 1969 (the year I registered for the draft) how there were quite a few songs taken from the musical "Hair" and one of them was "Hair" (of course) sung by *The Cowsills*
Sue, so you're a fan of The Raspberries eh? Did you follow lead singer Eric Carmen's solo career? Are you familiar with his hit songs such as: 1) All By Myself 2) Never Gonna Fall In Love Again 3) Make Me Lose Control 4) Hungry Eyes etc.?
@@suekundrath6532 That's cool that you know the drummer! I'll bet you know a lot of behind the scenes rock n' roll stories that you can't reveal. Happy rockin.'
Every song, front and back, on a vinyl album I own is a different band doing a different rendition of Louis, Louis. Saw it on the rack and said, "Gotta have it!"
So, this song is from 1968 and the video clips are wonderful! However: From 1968 to 1971 there was a series of free concerts in Hyde Park/ London, England. Pink Floyd, Blind Faith, Jethro Tull and The Rolling Stones all played there. If you can find the video, the Stones concert 7/5/1969 is an absolute jewel- it captures the moment so perfectly. The kids and adults, the clothes, the makeup, dances, Hells Angels as security, all of it is fascinating.
The song was recorded in 1967 at Abbey Road Studios and released the following year. 1968 ended up being among the most turbulent years in American history. This year saw the assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, the riots at the DNC in Chicago, and the Vietnam War had already been escalated to extreme measures. I think the young people at this time reacted to these events by striving to be a more compassionate society in a world of turmoil, and this song is a reflection of that endeavor.
“What’s your name, who’s your daddy? Is he rich like me?” Some pimp ass lyrics way ahead of their time 👌😁

And maybe a pinch of English Mod.
Right at the transition from one to the other.
Theres some protopunk and OG goth rock there too
Drugs were involved!
@@perrywillis6836 It was the 60's youth culture. Of course drugs were involved.
Care of Cell 44 - opening song on Zombies masterpiece Odyssey and Oracle, Time of the Season closes the album
This was the time of “free love” and letting it all hang out. Remember that. 😬👍🏼
Try Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up ". You'll love it
Jamel...it dawned on me today while watching this that you will absolutely LOVE The Grateful Dead's song Brokedown Palace!
Listen to the river sing sweet songs to rock my soul. ✌️
Thanks for the reaction to this song! You certainly picked the right video on it as well! The album was released in 1968, enough said with the "suburban style" and "hippie generation" shown for the song. Take care, be safe - Peace!
I ordered that T-shirt. Love your message.
"Tell her no" is great!
Can you believe me?? I have discovered this song just yesterday and now is the "soundtrack" of today, and now I have found your video too!!! LOL!!!!
One of my favorite stories is that there was a promoter in Texas that had a fake Zombies band touring. Just some random musicians that he said were The Zombies. Two of those band members were two of the guys from ZZ Top.
What's your name? 😯 Whose your Daddy? 😈 Beware is he rich like me?🤑 Classic!🤘👏 (Please do "Parliament" "Flashlight"!!!👏😇💙)
I saw them live years ago. Great suggestion.
I’ve never clicked like so fast!!
The 60's, a Era of peace and love, just like your shirt.
I remember in 1969 (the year
I registered for the draft) how
there were quite a few songs
taken from the musical "Hair"
and one of them was "Hair"
(of course) sung by *The Cowsills*
Look at these young men and women. This was a time of your grandma and grandpa they be jamming to this.lol😄
You need to do "Go All the Way" by The Raspberries
And its remake, “I Wanna Be With You.” 😆
I was gonna suggest this too, I love this song!
Sue, so you're a fan of The Raspberries eh? Did you follow lead singer Eric Carmen's solo career? Are you familiar with his hit songs
such as: 1) All By Myself 2) Never Gonna Fall In Love Again 3) Make Me Lose Control 4) Hungry Eyes etc.?
tmr626 I do know and love those songs. I’m also a personal friend of Jim Bonfanti (drummer).
@@suekundrath6532 That's cool that you know the drummer! I'll bet you know a lot of behind the scenes rock n' roll stories that
you can't reveal. Happy rockin.'
The British invasion was an exciting time to be young. I was. So exciting.
My brother this is my Generations music. This is at the peak of Haight Ashbury San Fran summer of love Hippy days 1968. Thank you brother.🙏🏼
Finish the saying, Jamal .."Shake it..don't break it ..wrap it up, and I'll take it .." 😂😂 Yep, might even be a few GREAT Grandmas shaking it 😂
the kingsman. ... loui loui..

Yes the OG for the FBI investigations of rock music
And Gloria G-L-O-R-I-A!
Every song, front and back, on a vinyl album I own is a different band doing a different rendition of Louis, Louis. Saw it on the rack and said, "Gotta have it!"
Your intro music still doesn't cease to make me laugh. Sounds like some Leave it to Beaver shit lol.
Great song! ❤️❤️60’s great music! It takes me back to my childhood. Love the oldies so much!!
How about “Merle Haggard”, he was a really good friend of mine. Unfortunately he passed away in 2016. Thank you
Mama Tried
Bruce Grossman Great choice
@@losthigh65 long time fan.
Contessa He was an amazing person. He was real, and lived like everyone else. I sure miss him
Bruce Grossman That’s great to hear. Love to see people still listen to The Hag.
How about that eerie cover of "Mad World" by Gary Jules?
The song was recorded in 1967 at Abbey Road Studios and released the following year.
1968 ended up being among the most turbulent years in American history. This year saw the assassinations of Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King, the riots at the DNC in Chicago, and the Vietnam War had already been escalated to extreme measures.
I think the young people at this time reacted to these events by striving to be a more compassionate society in a world of turmoil, and this song is a reflection of that endeavor.
Such a great tune. Lovin' the clips from the 1964-65 World's Fair in Queens.
