Fluid transfer pump - geni.us/eB7Djpi
Same brand as the one I'm using in the video, but less expensive. If you're planning to change your transmission fluid several times, having a nicer pump is worth it IMO.
The thread size for the filler is M18*1.5 - if you're going the DIY route, you can get something like this and attach your own hose: geni.us/Ow67fT
Large plastic beakers - geni.us/80eft
These come in super handy on other fluid changes too. Really useful - if you're only going to buy one size, go for the giant one.

First off, great video as usual. I also have a 2006 Land Cruiser, so I usually check here before I start a job to see if there are any tips to glean. Regarding the diagnostic mode, I am under the impression that procedure may no longer be used for accurate temperature range when filling the late model Land Cruiser transmissions ('04 - '07). I believe you use the online or downloaded service manuals (based on previous video) which stated the correct interval of 97 - 115 F, but the original range in the printed service manuals state checking at a range between 115 - 130 F. The lower temperature was the result of a TSB (T-SB-0129-08 July 9 2008 Toyota change recommendation to between 97 F to 115 F) issued against several models and years of vehicles. The point is that the diagnostic mode built into the ECM is still using the 115 - 130 F range. As you demonstrated, the light will come on at 115 F and if it exceeds 130 F, it will begin blinking. I ended up just using my Scan Gauge II to read the realtime transmission temperature, but it could also be read in TIS. The higher temperature could result in lower than the currently recommended level of ATF. This is a good link for more details. forum.ih8mud.com/threads/scored-2007-unicorn-the-holy-grail-of-100-series.1043138/post-11645885
Loved the pump recommendation. That made filling the transmission so easy.
I followed the procedure and done mine, great instruction. Will love to see a pan drop video please, thanks.
Thanks! Planning to do the full plan drop in the next couple months đ
Great but long video. I also watched a couple of others and came up with something a little different.
The hose I pulled from I also connected a clear hose to a funnel and refilled the amount I dropped. Which was at intervals of 2 quarts. I had a bucket that measures up to 22qts. Lastly, I did my best to get the signal to show after the jump. But nothing would happen. So, I just let it idle for 20 minutes then checked. I had indeed overfilled. Thanks for your video, it help give me the confidence to do it and now I feel very competent!
Thanks, Rick - glad to hear you were able to modify and get it done!
There is another easy way to do this job, drain the gear oil - dont remove fil and overflow plug - when you want to add oil just add it right way from dipstick using a funnel same amont that you drain it. When yo finish check the oil from the dipstick witn normal operating temperature.
That is a valid way, but not on an â06 transmission, which does not have a dip stick.
Thanks a lot... But, I'll appreciate it if you could do the detailed one when to replace the filter, gasket and drain most of the extra fluid in the torque converter... Etc.
Thanks for the comment - planning to do the detailed one the next time I change the fluid.
Like to see as well. Great vid thanks.
I followed your advice and it went perfectly but I replaced way more than the 3L in the service manual
Glad to hear it went smoothly! How much did you end up getting out?
Yeah man, pan drop vid would be amazing. A link to the pump you used in this would be great to, although I do have dipstick in my 2000, so maybe I wonât need one? Thanks again for the fantastic content.
Thank you - I appreciate it! Here's a link to the pump I bought; it's a little pricey but well made and easy to use: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YX7Q0MI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
On the dipstick question - I believe you can fill from the there without the pump. Take a look through this forum post for more info: forum.ih8mud.com/threads/transmission-fluid-change.20426/
excellent video . id love to see a pan drop video !
Thanks! Planning on doing the pan drop in the next few weeks :)
Definitely do the pan drop would love to see that
Very good
beautiful ! will do tomorrow on my , TY
Hi, great video! probably the only practical one I saw for LC100! Thanks! What adapter did you use on this ATF refill transfer? (I mean the adapter connect to fill hole) Could you share a link or a part number of that adapter?
Excellent video! Thanks! Iâm looking to do this on my GX470 soon.
Thank you - glad it was helpful!
Thanks! Nice video. Straight the deets!
Thanks, Adam!
Hi. I have a problem with my land cruiser 2007. Maybe yu can help me. Somethime smell a lot of gas and dont start. Im waite around 20 minutes and them start
Outstanding Video! Nicely Done â
Thanks J Dean!
Great video mate đđŒ
Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
I have a diesel before facelift with a four-speed transmission. The process of filling with a hidden bolt seems complicated. Normally I drain the drain plug. It's exactly 3.8 liters. Then I fill the same amount of new oil under the hood trough a hole for the dipstick. Then I select all position on shifter P-R-N-D-2-1, make short drive and check oil level. Job done. I only have a sieve/netting filter, not a classic filter, so I didn't change it. Unfortunately, only a 1/3 of oil is replaced. It would be better to find out how drain TQ convertor and AT oil cooler etc. If we not change all, it is better make it more times than official period. I do it together with every second engine oil.
Agree - adding fluid via the dip stick would be nice! Once the transmissions became hermetically sealed, the dip stick was removed (maybe â05?) to prevent moisture in the air from being absorbed into the transmission fluid. But once the transmission is opened for the first time, my understanding is the fluid must subsequently be changed at an interval similar to 100âs with the dip stick. Iâve not seen any info on the TQ converter or AT oil cooler - thanks for pointing those out, Iâll look into it!
Hello, do you know how to delete airbag ligth?
Hey! This seems to be intimidating... Can we not remove the old fluid from the dipstick hole and add the same quantity back? Maybe do this a couple of times after driving about 500 Miles.. Let me know if you have other ideas!!
Hey Mark! The 06â doesnât have a dipstick, so using the fill plug is the only option. Personally Iâm reluctant to suction fluid out since that requires putting a tube into the transmission. Totally hear you on it being intimidating - if you have a dipstick, that means you can also refill from the engine bay which makes things easier. Adding the same quantity back also works, the only trouble being you might not know if the truck is currently filled properly. Iâd encourage you to drain from the pan, measure the quantity, refill from the dipstick. Once you feel comfortable with that, include the procedure to check the fluid levels. Hope that helps!
Great video. Thanks! Any idea on diameter of the fill plug for buying the necessary tubing to refill?
Great Video! I've been pouring atf fluid down the atf dipstick this whole time. I have a 1998 landcruiser so I'm going to take a look if I have that overflow valve because I never used it. Also, why can't the manufacture tell the exact oil needed? 3 quarts right?
Whats the parts number for drain/fill plug washer? And overflow rubber washer?
From what I read is better to do the fast one , since there tiny particles from the clutches wear and tear that helps it stick better so by leaving some of the original fluid/clutches particles
Read this somewhere in ih8mud
+1 I've read this too - probably the safest way would be to perform several drain/fills at shorter intervals, but I'm not an expert in this area!
Well done video. Thank you.
Do you have part numbers for the bolts and washers on the trans? So the fill, drain and overflow. Thanks
Thanks
I have an LX470 thats the same platform. Will this work the same way?
I think itâs likely, but you should find an FSM online for your model year to be sure. If you have trouble finding one, you can do a 24hr subscription through Toyotaâs tech service bulletin for ~$20 and get the entire manual. Would recommend it if youâre planning on keeping the LX long term.
Hey mate, how are you cycling through the gears when you disconnected the linkage to get to the fill plug?
Hey good question - thatâs a mistake on my part in the video, you do need to fasten the nut back on the linkage to cycle through the gears. Thanks for asking the question!
If you do a full trans flush that would be great to see your method. And also brake fluid flush. Not enough videos on that!
Planning on doing both in the near future actually!
I would definitely like to see you remove the pan and strainer on a u-tube.
Next time, Iâll do it!
Have a link to the fluid transfer pump.
Iâll buy more stuff
Hi there, thanks for the video. I have a 2004 land cruiser that doesnât shift to gear 4 when driving in an automatic transmission but when I drive it on manual transmission, I can switch from 2, 3, and 4 easily. Would could be a possible reason that it isnât shifting to gear 4 and 5 in automatic transmission? Thanks for the videos!
Thanks for the comment - not sure on that, maybe someone else in the comments can chime in on this?
Thank you sir. Note that the car was sitting and the battery was dead for a month. Could this be something electrical rather than a mechanical issue? Also, no check engine in the dashboard
What's the recommended interval of transmission fluid? I have a LC 2018
Check the owner manual
Would like to see the pan drop
I'm planning on doing this the next time I change the transmission fluid.
What year Land Cruiser is this? Also, would this same exact procedure work on a 2002 LX470?
Mine is a 2006 - this procedure is different on the earlier years (I believe also including the lx). Since you guys have a dipstick, youâre able fill from the engine bay. You donât have to pump the fluid in. Also I think the fluid is different as well. Def check the FSM for your model year if possible to be sure. Good luck!
If the gear shifter linkage was disconnected, then what good is it to shift to get the fluid through?
Thanks for pointing that out - youâre correct, the linkage should be reconnected in order to cycle through the gears and trigger the diagnostic mode.
@@LandCruiserDIY I'm glad you realized it was a question and not an attack. Thankyou for responding.
Is this the same process for pre 2005 4 speed boxes?
I *think 05 (prob depending on manufacture date) has a dip stick which actually makes things easier.
How many miles you have on your LC? I have same truck with 106k and want to do this service.
Iâm at 206k now, the previous owner changed at 90k and I did the first drain/fill at 165k. Itâs actually a pretty easy procedure after doing it the first time and with the right tools. Good luck, let me know if you have any questions!
So while you're going through the N and D the linkages are still removed right?
Good question - I need to clarify that with a sticky. The linkage needs to be reconnected when youâre cycling through N to D.
@@LandCruiserDIY yeah sounds logical lol, just wanted to be sure as some would take things literally
Only 5 liter aft
Drop the pan, put it back on, fill after waiting long enough preferably 1/2-1 qt. extra, disconnect transmission fluid cooler return, attach hose from cooler return line to catch container, keep enough fluid in vacuum pump, prime it good solid, start the truck and open valve on vacuum pump while seeing the old fluid come out, exchange enough fluid through transmission(preferably atleast 2 qts. extra than transmission dry fill capacity), turn the engine off and reattach cooler line/hose, confirm correct level, Done!
I want to see this video and I have my right as a subscriber to ask for content!
P.S The thumbnail will definitely highly help a video according to my recommendation kick your channel off. Check out transmission flush on 1Road YT.
Thanks! Next transmission fluid change and Iâll do the pan drop đ

Crap design.. should have a dip stick.
Would be nice, the earlier models do before Toyota made the move to hermetically sealed transmissions.
