Can the valve covers be where the strong exhaust smell is coming from?

Definitely, if the seal is leaking oil onto the manifolds the smoke will get sucked into the cabin of the vehicle and stink

This is exactly where I am... started smoking and realized oil was leaking on my exhaust causing the smoke... was just planning to replace valve cover... this is me figuring how to do that

I replaced my vacuum pump and still have a leak around it even tho it’s a brand new one, did I install it wrong? is my valve cover leaking as well? Or is it a bad vacuum pump?

Maybe the gasket didn’t seat correctly? You’d have to pull it back out and just give it a really good visual inspection. Or maybe clean it all down and run the truck and just watch it to see where exactly it’s leaking out before you tear it apart

Depends where you go, it’s not a difficult job but it takes some time so… I can’t remember how much book time and parts were
