My step dad was a Ford mechanic forever, he had some neat stories about these coming in for work on the retractable top in the 70s. Absolutely love these!
I think that was one of the most unique cars ever built of all time. The engineering behind it was defiantly ahead of it's time & made this My second favourite cars of all time. To get one now is not only a miracle, but a fortune to get one. Another great winner!!
The way that thing fired up was awesome. Most people today don't have the patience or skill to start something with a carburetor. Everyone's too lazy and in too big of a hurry. Same reason manual transmissions are pretty much gone.
Great Car Tony, I had bought 1 at age 20 with the goal of restoring Her, I found a cracked block in Her 332 ci engine AFTER the purchase. I found a replacement in the back end of a scraped School Bus in Terra Haute, IN. Purchased the block, went through the block and rebuilt the entire engine, had a Top Specialist go through the entire Top Mechanism, got married, moved into an apartment and had to sell Her prior to being done with the restoration. Mechanically, sound as a rock, but never got to finish Her cosmetically. Had to sell Her for $3500.00 due to no storage space for Her. That was 40 years ago, I wonder if She ever got finished with Her restoration........ Mine was colored Inca Gold and Black.
Nice 59 skyliner , I have one too in my gararge here, repainted in the late 80s to. Surf blue and colonial white roof but originally was wedgewood blue top and bottom , im in lorain, ohio by the lake, Good luck with your car, regards Tom. 😊
I'm confident, Tony, that you could repair this system, if someone brought it to you, but could you IMPROVE it. Say by, eliminating a motor or relay? Just realized that locking action on the lid is reminiscent of the automatic pull down on Cadillac's trunk of the late 70's.
Bob sure has a very nice car. It's too bad that Ford only made the Skyliner for three years. I wonder how many of these cars had problems with the roof and trunk lid malfunctioning. 😢😢 I don't remember these cars being advertised on the "I Love Lucy" show by Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. I will try to find some of these commercials on CZcams. I do remember Lucy and Desi doing commercials for Philip Morris cigarettes, who was the main sponsor of I Love Lucy for many years.
My dad had a 59 galaxy 500 town sedan 4 door hardtop Some cars were labeled Fairlane 500 with the exact trim It was yellow and white and I built a model of the car in the video with the yellow and white theme I also remember the seats had silver threads that were starting to break and they would polk you in the ass
Beautiful car. I have the exact same car and need to find a person to help me with getting the settings all correct. I am in Fort Myers, Florida. Can anyone help me?
The year of my birth, just like the 1959 Cadillac!
Right on!

What's funny is that they probably thought they were complicated back then. But nothing compared to the crap they're making today.
@@tonyscarcare5657 right?!! Lol

I totally agree with you!
Cool hard top forward spent Millions on that developing it super cool
Thanks!
A neighbor had a 2 toned pink and white hardtop when I was a kid.
They had great colors to choose from back then.
Love it!!
Me too!
These are so cool but also kinda terrifying with how complex they seem to be. Still, it's hard to argue with any 59 Ford!
That's very true.

Now that's sad. I'm sorry to hear that! 😔

I feel like I could fix it, but I doubt I could improve it.

They had a lot of problems with them for sure. Also, those commercials of Lusy and Desi are definitely on youtube. Thanks for watching and commenting!
