Peachyy I kinda was too but if you think about it, before we were born we were all in some place of nothingness until we are born, so what make us fear nothingness if we die if we didnât feel it before we were born. We had no recollection of the past present or future. What puts fear is that we might somehow be put into nothingness with our consciousness which wonât happen.

Our consciousness is basically a complex electrical circuit or in other words , a collection of varying charges which is extremely extremely vast and extremely complicated. When these electrical signals flow , they leave a trail of photons which escape outside our skull in form of either visible frequency or infrared frequency photons which keep transferring to the environment in form of em radiation.
So basically , all our thoughts and memories , every electrical flow of ions leave a trail of every electrical activity of all our 100billion neurons through our lifetime to our environment which scientifically might mean ,
That our consciousness never dies even if our whole brain and body is anhillated , it is just transferred to it's environment at subatomic level.

I lost my uncle because he got shot at night because there were two people who were trying to rob/steal his car, and he refused to give them the keys and shot him. He was a really cool uncle and he always took care of me when I was younger. I really hope to see him in the after life.

So, after we die we feel nothingness, until randomly the same placement in brain neurons happens and we are reborn( which is eventually gonna happen since infinity is infinity). Just a theory though. If you ask me, life is a test. Probably you will have a second or infinite chances after death, but nothing is sure. Hope we all make it to the other side and don't cease existing.

Don't let it get to you. I overthink it a lot too until I realize that every single animal in the universe HAS to die. Whether you're scared or not, you can at least find comfort in knowing that everyone you love and know will have to go through the same thing as you. We're all in the same boat here.
In a nutshell, we don't know and we probably can't know. We can't just assume what happens after we die. So just live your life to the full cause as far as we know, this may be the only shot we got.

@Lazar eternal sleep is confusing. When you sleep for 12 hours and wake up the next morning it feels very fast, as if that 12 hours do not exist. However if its an eternal sleep it cant feel fast because there is no endpoint to eternity. Eternal sleep brings as much uncertainty and is as vague as nothing!
Nothingness like the one you "feel" before birth is also confusing. Going from nothingness to something and from something to nothing FOREVER is just 2 very different things. We did not have conciousness before birth then we get one, and now that we have one what would it "feel" like to lose it?

This is a great way to see it however if you've never existed before, you haven't been through it yet. But the thing is when you die, you won't exist anymore so you won't go through it.

Yet most people aren't afraid of going to sleep, but it would be cool for there to be an afterlife. Basically, our bodies become buried, they give nutrition to plants, animals eat the plants, a little of your energy gets inside the animal, you are born as said animal, another animal eats the animal, or once again it dies and rots into the ground, and another animal eats it, then you become the next animal, then a human eats the animal and the energy gets passed on, and then that human has a baby and boom, you are reborn as a baby because the energy from the food from the animal transferred itself throughout the body of a human that ate the animal... A great friend of mine can communicate with fallen family members. He can also see them standing in front of them when he does that. It really is a beautiful thing. I saw my grandpaâs father once in a vision when i was with him. It was incredible.

I just feel like the concept of nothing happening after you die is just impossible. The concept of nothing and non existence just cancels itself out. If nothing or non existence happens after death, then they must exist in order to do so. This is when the contradiction comes in. Nothing means that there is no thing, or the lack of something. For nothing to exist, it need to be something in order for it be real and to truly be something to witness or experience. Or nonexistence needs to exist in order for people to witness it after death, but it canât because itâs nonexistent. You canât witness and see something that doesnât exist. And no, itâs not like sleeping as well. Because when you sleep, your brain is still working and functioning.
It is nothing. You simply don't exist anymore, it's like before you were born you simply didn't exist and you don't care that you were not alive for 14 billion years.

My best friend always said your afterlife depends on you and your beliefs and wants. He wasnât exactly religious but he believed you go where you believe youâll go and want to go. Think of it this way: Experiencing "nothing" is impossible. And the way we think of it is weird, because we can only compare it to being in a dreamless sleep. Unconsciousness, right? Well, we're not afraid to sleep. And we all sleep. Also remember: we really have no idea about anything beyond our belief systems, which we created ourselves. Every after death theory is equally ridiculous. We believe one (like there is ânothingâ or that there is âheavenâ) due to our own belief set. Ultimately, since there is no way around dying, it might suit you to apply that to being present, as the present may (or may not) be all you are and have. At least in this form of existence, so why not do your best and experience it fully? We have control on what we focus on. We have control on what we do. Stuff happens all the time, our job is to decide how to respond. Sorry this is so long, I have some positive after death theories too if you'd like to hear them

We are all one with the universe and all dimensions. Your true self and True spirit is blissful beyond our comprehension. Once you die you go back to a place that is eternal, you were there before you were born and you go there when you die. You chose to live this life because itâs a totally different type of experience than your spiritual one. You are a part of everything in such a beautiful way.
The universe wouldnât ever exist if something wasnât there to appreciate and experience it. Itâs our playground, while your true self, is absolutely everything. You are one with your family, friends, enemies, the planet.
I can also promise when you die, wow, itâs quite an intense experience, but itâs truly heaven beyond words.

Reading through all of the comments I suppose the greatest comfort that I take from all this is knowing that I am not alone in my thoughts. Several weeks back my gf lost her grandfather and since then I believe I developed Thanatophobia. In my opinion, the biggest downside to being human is that we are aware of our mortality due to our coveted consciousness. This party will end and no one knows who planned the party and if there will be an after party. During this party we all get together to discuss the purpose of it and what happens after. Using our intelligence, consciousness, and our understanding of linear time we get together during the party and discuss how the party started, its purpose, and what comes after. All the while we forget to enjoy the party while it lasts.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the comments. It brought me a great deal of comfort. Also, since my anxiety has calmed a bit I have another brain teaser theory. Its a reincarnation theory. Maybe we can throw linear time out the window. If reincarnation is real perhaps we are all born during different times in history..and to expand upon this further maybe even in different planes of existence, in different realities. When your born you come out crying, what if we come out crying because we remember our original family from our last life and we miss them. But over the years we adjust to the new life and we could not remember why we were crying because we were to little and our brain cant remember that far back.

I was adopted, my biological mom died in 2009, never recognize her but I keeps in touch with her family, including siblings, two uncles and two aunts, My biological dad was never met by me, from what I found out my mother never wanted to talk about him and he left her when she was pregnant. I live in Poland in a different city than I was born but still same country. My adoptive grandmother will be 92 in June, she is also quite seriously ill but she is very strong, my adoptive grandfather died in 1990, I have never met him. I would like to add that my biological grandparents from my mother's side are also dead. I am now 25 years old and I struggle with mental disorders, for which I have been treating pharmacologically for 10 years, so it's all is not easy.
I had a near death experiment after a RTA. In my "coma dream" I remember being ecstatic, so so happy and it was AMAZING! i was on an escalator, going up, and I remember wearing fluffy pink PJs. i came to the top and walked very slowly and i was mesmerised, in awe! It was a moment of WOW! and then, being brought up as a catholic, I seen the pearly gates, again, WOW, so I kept walking. When I got there my four grandparents, who had all died before my RTA where on the other side of the gate and especially my to granny's where like: "Jenny, you're not welcome here yet. come back in 70 years" Then I remember being devastated and in shock and I just walked off... that was it!
When I woke up, I lost my ability to read write or speak (which has been sorted more or less with speech and language therapy), but in the few words i did have, I remember trying to tell my dad and I used the nickname i had for one of my granny's and my dad knew I wasn't messing. I don't know what's there for sure, like everyone else but I will never forget such an experience.
